Age of Diplomacy (1900-1930) New RP Idea

AGE OF DIPLOMACY

OCC: I figured I would try this new idea of mine

At the beginning of the 20th Century there stands many great nations, all vying for power. In the west, England continues to spread its Empire over the rest of the undeveloped world, while Germany is still foraging an Empire of its own. The United States has now emerged as a world power, claiming the lands of Cuba and the Philippines. Even the mighty land of Russia is seeking to claim lands of its own.

As you RP any of the countries alone, your sole objective is quite simple: to dominate the world and make your nation a true super power. Craft alliances and go to war, for your the future of your nation is at stake.

The starting date of this scenario will be spring 1900 and the scenario will continue until fall 1930. Each RL day marks one part of the year: either fall or spring. By winter 1930, whoever’s nation is the strongest will have the right to be called a super-power.

To become part of this RP, you must perform the following steps:

1. Choose from the list of nations and post which nation you would like to be.

2. List your information in the following format:

Name of Nation
Leader of Nation
Type of Government

Total Population
Capital City
Main Industries

Size of Army (Make it as brief as possible)
Size of Navy

*Try to be as factual as possible.*

I will stop accepting applicants by December 30, so please act quickly. On Sunday, Jan 2 I will return from my vacation and start this scenario.

As long as you are able to make an acceptable RP, I'll let you in.

Cool, thanks! :D One quick question though – as this is a historical rp, are we sticking strictly to the RL history of the nations and rp it as a given set of events, or are we allowed to play with the scenarios. For example, could France decide to attack England, or do the various alliances and actions have to play exactly as they did in RL?

Sorry if that’s a stupid question, I’d just rather have things clear in my head before we start.

Too late for me to get Germany, may I get Italy. I believe it was still part of the Triple Entrate(sp?) in 1900.

Besides populations, troop strength and technology, the rest of it is up to you. If you want to attack England you can.

Tomzilla, you can have Italy and yes it was still part of the
Triple Entrate in 1900.

Italy at that time was neutral, although it joined the Central Powers in an alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary. It defected during WWI to the Triple Entente [the allies]......

I could of sworn that the Central Powers were also known as the Triple Entrate and the Allies the Triple Entente.

information drawn from

Population 43 million
Government is officially a Monarchy, actually a Constitutional Monarchy (of a sort) with democratic trappings but actually more of an oligarchy with the Emporer as mostly a figurehead.
GDP: $68 Billion (in 1990 dollars)(basically about 1/5 the size of US economy)
Current Emperor Meiji
Prime Minister in 1900 Hiroboni

http://www.friesian.com/sangoku.htm#ministers

Army is 270,000 men organized into 15 divisions, with 100,000 reservists. The Army is equipped with all modern weapons.

The Navy by 1904 will consist of 8 battleships (pre dreadnought type) plus 31 cruisers, 30 destroyers, 20 torpedo boats, and various misc other ships (under a gifted commander in Admiral Togo)

The Japanese beat the Chinese in 1894 and acquired Formosa but under pressure were forced to give up their gains in Manchuria and to a lesser extent in Korea. The Germans and Russians were responsible for this, and the Japanese hold a grudge, especially when the Russians promptly moved in on Manchuria and commenced a trade war in Korea.

Plans are underway to get even for that (Russo Japanese War in 1904 unless the Russians pull out as agreed from Manchuria and Korea)

negotiations are underway with the British about a 10 year defense treaty, and the Japanese have good relations with the US and Britian at this time, both of whom view the Japanese as "little brothers" of a sort.

The Japanese Empire consists of the Home Islands, the Bonin and Volcano islands and the Ryukuyu Islands plus Taiwan, and Japan has forced China to give it substantial trade concessions and the same has been forced on Korea which Japan views as its client state. The Japanese want to get into the Imperialism game like the Europeans and have a good start.

Entrate????

Sorry, little mistake. The Allies were the Entente and the Axis were the Central Powers. Italy was leaning toward the Central Power's until they were attacked by Austria/Hungary in the Alps. I know this because my great-grandmother fled to the United States when Italy was attacked.

a minor point but dreadnoughts don't show up until 1906.... the Dutch do have 4 pre dreadnought battleships though

I have done a lot of research on turn of the 20th century navies for another thread.... check out the various threads involving Norddriech and British Hannover concerning the Road to Armegeddon
