Doesn't this fall under flamebaiting?

What?!? It's for an RP. That deals with a future without high tech.

*Shakes Head*

Guff, please get the link to the RP thread up so people don't get confused. Please?

Canad a, here's the link for now. The RP (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=384142)

Its about time i worked out where i am dont you think... warning who ever ends up near me will be subjected simultaneously to annoying raiding and highly beneficial trade in earth related goods. If you're a gunpowder nation cross your fingers, if you're not... dont.

Taldaan if by southern Europe you meant spain ill tale the Pyrenees (activated by the african plate pushing up against the Eurasian (or the otherway round)) if you meant France (which would make sense too) ill take an activated an extended/ing alps that is curved into austria.

Just so you guys know, TMG, Zakia, and I are located in Algeria. TMG is to the north of the me while Zakia is to the east.

*gets out map book :D* Oooh i was gonna be there up the top where the mountains are/would be. I have to say Moroco looks like an attractive option.

Does anyone mind, i havnt really fixed my nation yet im just looking to be closed to some action but.... ill talk to zakia find out where he wants to be first, just raise any objections you have to my position options.

Well I am in the south of Algeria currently.

Zarb, just leading me and Krieg into a little war.

Just so everybody knows there's a little state to the South East of me known as the Hgrovian Republic, it's just a small trading state with little to no real armed forces since they rely on the balance of power between the Mazalans and the Tarantians to keep them alive.

Gerlach is scattered around Northern France and southern Germany while Solarii is has many settlements and cities in Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and some Greek islands. It sounds like a lot but it isn't.

Oh. I think I might like to join that RP.

I've got some questions first though.

1. Would semaphore towers be permitted? Basically, a Semaphore tower is giant set of flags used to send semaphore. They're built in chains and used to send messages over long distances.

2. What about primitive steamships? They were developed in 1787. The basic technology to build them had been around for a while before that. If someone can make a steam powered tank can't they make a steam powered ship?

3. Flintlocks were invented in 1612, so they're allowed correct?

4. What about some type of waxed paper cartridge for the gunpower?

5. What about some type of socket bayonet or some type of ring bayonet?
What I'm thinking here is a stout musket that is designed almost as much as a spear as a musket.

6. Would I be allowed to make my main export coal?

1 to 6: allowed.

Just about everything pre-WW1 and non-fuel things are ok.

For steam things (which is basically all machinary) if youve ever been inside on old victorian mines pumping system imagine that. ENORMOUS pistons adn things like that. They're large god awfully powerful and massively inefficient.

OOC: TMG, Zarb, Lord Fenix and I will need to find the time to make ourselves known on that map, we are all based in Algeria to give you an idea of where we are.
The Emperor Fenix
29-12-2004, 17:03
Yep, Algeria and Moroco as far as i can make out Okyto has control of the mountains in northern Algeria and Moroco whilst Zakia takes the southern plians in the west... TMG to the east still under the mountains possibly i dont know about that, with Zarbia below TMG... thats all i know im afraid i dont know anything exact.

Of course, they're are gonna be inefficient. They didn't really have the technology to make anything better.

For the record, some really fun books to read is the Raj Whitehall series by David Drake and S.M. Stirling. :) They could probably help with writing this kind of thing.

For reference purposes, Brass and Bronze are two different metals. Cannon should be made of bronze, not brass.

Which ones? The cannons or the muskets? Either way, it's no big deal, I'm just curious. :)

Also, are Ferguson rifles allowed? ;)
The Merchant Guilds
31-12-2004, 10:41
Things like the cannons... I mean have a few per unit but not like 80 ffs...

Fergerson Rifles? The word rifle worries me a little since rifles are historically accurate... I think we said to keep it to Musket level... Brown Bess sort of type if you will absolute tops...

Also, please remeber to justify your tech if your using advanced stuff...

As for your rifle again... develop it etc but it's going to take time to seriously develop.

1 to 6: allowed.

Here's what Guffingford said about the tech.

Sounds good. I've actually thought of a better way to fix my military. I've gonna make a bunch of changes to it.

A Ferguson rifle is from the same era as the Brown Bess musket. At the time of the Brown Bess musket, the also had types of rifles. Pennsylvania rifles were in use at the same time as the Brown Bess, and the Ferguson rifle was developed during that era.

The Ferguson rifle is a breechloader flintlock with a rifled barrel. It was invented in 1776, but never really caught on with the British Army. It's also an excuse to not develop the Minie ball.

You'll have to forgive me, I'm a history buff, especially in the area of antique firearms. :p

I've also got some interesting ideas for mecury and alcohol.

Originally it was pre-1600 tech only, which is still the assumption many of the starting players have built they're nations on. This is most annoying... I will talk to HP about it because it's silleh...

I am a Military History buff/part-time writer... but thats before my real area of expertise... shown by the fact I knew only of the Pennsylvania and Baker Rifles only really because they were used in the Peninsular War.

Pre-WW1 weapons are allowed but you must know all your economies in this type of RP cannot allow massive well armed/equipped armies. A few elite regiments ok, no one complains about that. The bulk of your army is horrible and usually armed with blunderbusses and swords.

I sense massive blocks of pikemen coming back into fashion. :p That and Roman style legions.

I think that most of the problems that the people in the Middle Ages had with their cannons were because of their casting techniques. It makes a whole lot better cannon if you cast it solid, then bore out the center.

No brass cartridges for me.
