Joint Chief of Staff Alex Carrack hesitated slightly before he ascended the stage that had been erected in the middle of the new multifunctional hall in the Department of Defence. The scent of plywood, marble and oak wood rose up to the ceiling and Alex had inhaled it deeply when he had come here just minutes ago. Now, flashes of photo cameras blinded him and he had to shield his eyes from it.

"Please, ladies and gentlemen, please, I won't be able to read from my paper if your lights dazzle me."

The crowd roared with laughter and it eased Alex's nerves. He established himself in front of a flag draped down from the ceiling; green with a white eagle and Arab chants printed on it, the banner of the DoD.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you all know today's a memorable day for us all. Today will be remembered as the day that the first regular unit has finished its training with the VEPR Next Generation Combat Suit. This battle gear will undoubtly revolutionize the art of warfare."

Alex took his time; he carefully sipped some water, allowing the crowd to speculate in whispers on the rest of the announcement.

"In a period of five to six years, the entire airborne, air assault and light infantry force will be equipped with the system, while in a period of ten, maybe twelve years, all combat infantrymen will be equipped with this new combat suit."

Alex took another deep breath.

"The lethality of a single combat infantryman will increase tenfold, especially when an uplink to our global defence net will be installed, shortly thereafter. The Army will be able to do more with less; infantrymen will be able to hold more ground and engage more opponents, so the administration's plans can be supported with just half the current infantry ranks. Therefore, the Army is scaling down, from twenty-four divisions to just twelve divisions. From sixty manouver brigades to thirty. The unemployment rates will be subdued by the expansion of the Marine Corps, which expands its echelon roles with 60,000 troops, without doubt a saviour to a lot of enlisten personnel. However, Secretary of Defence, Mr. Sharif, has promised to co-operate with other Secretaries to provide enough jobs to keep everyone employed.

For some happier news, the defence budget will be slightly expanded to provide every division with an extra set of equipment; one in the homeland, stashed in prepositioned stocks and one on operational bases on foreign soil, such as in Clan Smoke Jaguar, or on the JMOB bases at the world seas. This is to quickly react to a crisis without the time-consuming process of shipping equipment and supplies.

For something else, basic training and field exercises, for all personnel, are to be increased in both intensity and training time to keep our forces ready for anything, anywhere, anytime. This applies to all branches and the expansion of training facilities, especially for Military Operations in Urban Terrain, is already planned for the next FY.

Thank you for your time, ladies and gentlemen, any questions?"

OOC: So, that wasn't really of any interest to anyone except me. Just a reference.
