Riverian Elections

The Union of Riveria

The Riverian National Election Campaign officially begins on January 1, and the election is to be held on February 7, 2005. This is Riveria's first official election, and foreign strategists have already predicted a strong win for the interim President, Liberal Party leader Quatro Liech. Although he founded The Republic of the Union of Riveria, Riverian Party Candidate Andrés Rivero has little support. Also in the race is Riverian Conservative Party candidate Johnathon Mormis. Several local write-in candidates have also started up grassroots campaigns. A poll conducted by a group of volunteers at the Riverian Chamber of Commerce, which has already endorsed Mr. Rivero, shows Liech 23%, Rivero 12%, Mormis 2% . The rest of the sample was undecided.

*Secret IC(Tell me if you don't like this and ill delete my reply)* Cells in The Union of Riveria have started funding massively a candidate for the 'Riverian Imperial Republican Party.' The latest Riverian Presidential Election Poll, conducted by RiveriaFone, the nations only telephone service provider, shows Quatro Liech 31%, New Candidate Vance Phalaxt 27%, Andrés Rivero 11%, & Other or Undecided 38%. RiveriaFone has not officially endorsed a candidate, but it is expected to support either Liech or Rivero. The new Imperial Party candidate Vance Phalaxt has obtained incredible support over the small amount of time he has been in the race. Phalaxt has released a huge ad campaign and is using his party's deep pockets to give him a chance in this election, where Liberal Party candidate Quatro Liech was already declared a shoo-in.

Riverian Conservative Party Presidential candidate Johnathon Mormiss was shot and killed early this morning at a campaign rally just north of Rivero City in an afluent area known as Camel Cliff. Mormiss was far behind major candidates Liech, Rivero, and up-and-coming Imperial Republican Party candidate Vance Phalaxt. However, experts expected Mormiss to surge forward, gaining at least 6 percentage points in the next week, taking most of those votes from Phalaxt. "Mormiss and Phalaxt are both big right wing guys," says Tim Carabia, proffesor at the University of Riveria. "Phalaxt popped out of no where and got huge support early on, but a lot of the predominantly left-wing Riverian media has condemned Phalaxt, saying that Mormiss is the lesser of the two evils."
This is indeed the case. Some have even called Phalaxt "a gateway to evil." Many have even gone so far as blaming Phalaxt for Mormiss's death.
The killer has not been identified.

Vance Phalaxt appeared at a podemn with a massive Riverian flag in the background.
"I am very sorry of the death of Mr. Mormiss. He was a great man with great political goals. If I had a choice who to pick in this race, exluding me, I would have picked him for the Presidency. He served his great life in a great manner, and shall always be remembered. I will be taking a break from the campaign and attend his funeral. If I am elected President, my first act of power shall use the networks of Riverian intelligence and military agencies and bring those of his murder to justice. I will then ensure the security of future candidates in history. Thank you."
He walked off stage and headed to the side door to his Campaign bus, which awaited him.

"...The recent death of Mr. Johnathon Mormiss, Conservative Party candidate for President, has shook this young nation in a way never concieved by its founders. A great evil has erupted, an evil which has killed not only Mr. Mormiss, but part of this nation's newfound political spirit. Whoever this killer was, who they were working for, why they commited such an act of malice, is unknown, but one thing is certain: they did not approve of Riveria's dream of democracy. But we cannot allow this incident to get in the way of our first election. We won't stand for it. Riveria's election will proceed, and our new Internal Protection Agency will be assigned to protect each official candidate..."

Official Statement from Rivero City:
Due to the recent assasination of Johnathon Mormiss, the Riverian National Elecions have been moved to January 1. This is not permanent, however it is necessary to insure the safety of the candidates. A quick campaigning period will not give assasins a large window of time to attack.

-Richard Simm, Secretary of Elections and Political Matters

From a pro-Liech speech:
"...we must throw down the idea of an Imperialist Republican government! Just look at Nycton! Do we want to change our nation's founder's plans for the future?..."

Responce from Pres. Liech:
"...we cannot limmit the rights of Mr. Phalaxt to run for public office in Riveria. He meets every requirment. There is nothing you can do aout his canidacy."

A clip speech by Vance Phalaxt earlier today:
"...I am a Riverian citizen and I believe there is greatness in this great nation. Our founding fathers wanted this state to strive to show this massive world who we really are! It is true that I want to change this country slightly, but that is for the better! This nation is no longer a Union! We are united as one body for the freedom of the people. I have travelled to Nycton and have explored it from boarder to boarder. I went to a University and studied there for 3 years. I have saw it's culture, it's people, it's freedoms, it's sheer size and power. It is 280x this countries population. Do you think it would have grown to be a 2 billion person population if it had a failing government? Riveria needs change, and change for the better. It needs greatness. There are those willing to help Rivera succeed. Give me the opportunity to make this nation great, or give other candidates the opportunity to make this nation fail. It is your choice, the people, and your choice alone..."

The Phalaxt and the Liech camps have both launched their ad campaigns today, 5 days until the election. The campaigns were on an "emergency" basis, thanks to election day's being moved up to Jan. 1. The Internal Service, a group of bodyguards, was put officialy into service today, after their purchase from Cottonmouth.

Phalaxt's adds today showed the start of a dirty campaign. Phalaxt accused Liech of doing almost nothing productive when he was office. The commercial then boosts that Phalaxt will create the most productive years in history for Riveria.

Today he attended a church service and to one of the largest rallies he has been with yet. He delivered a new speech making Liech look like a utter fool from birth to present. "You need to do something right for once in your country! Vote Phalaxt and you shall prosper on top of the world, a beacon of freedom for everyone!"

Poll conducted by VMC, Volunteers Making Calls (endorsed Liech):
Liech 40%
Phalaxt 30%
Rivero 26%

As all polls agree, the undecided rate is very low. Phalaxt needs to sway the few undecided voters that are left to his side, and perhaps gain on Liech. From there, it's all about who shows up at the polls on New Years Day.

Political strategists are still baffled by Imperial Republican Party candidate Vance Phalaxt's huge support in a nation classified by the UN as "Democratic Socialists." Although the nation is quite left-wing, Riverians are outraged that the UN would take it to that level. Some stragetists belive that this new label will compel Riverians to vote for Phalaxt, in an effort to 'republicanize' their nation.

The National Elections Poll (NEP) is the largest poll that has been conducted during the Riverian elections. Sample size is 1,300, margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points.

LIECH, QUATRO 36%
PHALAXT, VANCE 34%
RIVERO, ANDRES 22%
TELLEN, PHILLIP 4%
OTHER CANDIDATE 3%
UNDECIDED 1%

The undecided rate has hit 1.2% of the population with one day until the election. The difference between Liech and Phalax is still withing the margin of error, making the election almost impossible to call. Only two prominent Riverian news networks, RNN and FNS, have called it as a Liech win. However, a poll of absentee voters who already sent in their ballots shows Phalaxt 40%, Liech 32%. Absentee voters account for 1.3% of the voting population.

The election has finally come to a close. Today, around 8:46 US Eastern Time, the final ballots for the Riverian Election were counted. The outcome of the pesidential race:

DANIA, Phillip (New Socialist) 0.4%
LIECH, Quatro (Liberal) 34.6%
MANTLE, Oscar (Communist) 0.1%
PHALAXT, Vance (Imperial Republican) 33.2%
RIVERO, Andres (Riverian National) 28.7%
RUNDEE, Kyle (National Minority) 1.6%
YALLIE, Erika (Women's National) 0.5%
WRITE IN CANDIDATE 0.9%

TOTAL VOTER TURNOUT: 87.7% of Registered Voters (82.6% of the qualified population is registered)

There was much nail-biting at the Liech camp when some exit polls came back showing a third place finish, behind Phalaxt and Rivero. Three of Riveria's four prominent news networks said it would be near-impossible for a Liech win. However, after a 17 precincts in Dreville finally reported their countings to be hugely in favor of Liech, and after several precincts south of Rivero City found nearly 1200 "lost" ballots, Liech was declared winner. Phalaxt was quoted in a special afternoon edition of left wing newspaper The Weekly Riverian saying, "you haven't heard the last from me." He claims he was misquoted.
