Unity Festival in Random Kingdom!

Random Kingdom
22-12-2004, 20:22
The government-run unity festival in Random Kingdom is ready to begin, after delays and an almost cancellation because of an outbreak of mutant geckoids. Tickets have already been sold (in the old thread) to governments and the select few, and are now being sold worldwide. The concert will kick off in a few NS months, with the following confirmed musical acts:

RANDOM KINGDOM
"Gehyra Max"

SLAYTANICCA
"Festering Hate"
"Flamethrower"
"Helgaar's Reign"
"Crack Factory"
"Amorphous Tendrils"

CAMEL EATERS
"The Danny Boys"
"Sand and Blood"
"Holly and the Gravel Devils"
"Dark Ice and Sky"

"Gehyra Max", the replacement act for Geckos R' Us, will also be performing. Governments are welcome to make up a ticket price, so long as it pays well for acommodation (festival will take a few days), seating, construction, royalties and the like. Transport will be arranged.

EDIT: Added acts from Camel Eaters.

A number of Alexian musical groups have asked weather they could attend(and permantly take residence so as to avoid goverment censorship of there art)
They can attend, as the government has decided to take pity on the groups. Methods of transport without arousing Alexian suspicion will have to be arranged, and somehow deployed without being hijacked by Alexian pirates. There are a few apartments available in the capital of New Hope, where the festival will be taking place.

The musical groups(mostly folk music groups and modern pop groups) have said via illegal ham radio connection that they will arrange there own transport out of the empire first, as they do not want to put the goverment of Random Kingdom in the danger of being exposed by Alexian border patrols as smuggling citzens out of the country, which would be terrible for diplomatic relations.

They would, however, appreciate it if Random Kingdom could arrange transport to RK once they were out of the country.

Also, they would appreciate it if some of there friends and family could accompany them to Random Kingdom to escape the tyranical emperor.

It is expected that the goverment of Alexia would organize a music festival much the same for the sole reason that RK has one.

We accept the terms of the musicians, and will set up transport (to which nation?). The set is being painted and programs being drawn up. It is anticipated that each band will be allocated at least 20-30 minutes on stage, but if bands need extra time, the program can be amended on a "first come, first served" basis. OOC: I'll try to get this moving on at least the day after Christmas.

The day after Christmass. Alot of people may be busy for this week, I wouldn't rush yourself. But that just me.

Ceaser Gueverra, a young flute player from the folk group "The happy plainmen" has spoken out on behalf of all the refugees.

"We thank the goverment of Random Kingdom for giving us the chance to start a better life, and to practice our art without fear of the police banging at our door. We apologize for the behaviour of earlier Alexian immigrants, and I cannot explain there actions. People from the southern provinces have always been rather odd, and apparently, violent and ungratefull. But we are nothing like them, all we want is a better life from our families, to be able to raise our children in the christian faith, and to play our music. Hopefully, our music will draw attention to the plight of the Alexian people, and perhaps even make a difference.

We have arranged to sail from the southern coast in fishing boats, avoiding Coast Guard and army patrols, and once we are far enough out, Helicopters or boats from Random Kingdom could take us to safety.

That is the best plan we have come up with. If you have a better idea, please tell us. We simply want to leave the country safely and as fast as possible.

OOC: Sorry I'm late. Because I'm over the boxing day deadline, and the fact that keeping this with the 1 day = 1 year rule, the event no longer follows the NS clock.
IC: Random Kingdom accepts the plan of the Alexian musicians, but where should helicopters land?

Ticket sales are now OFF as the week of the festival draws close. Only a few weeks left!

The following musical groups have expressed an interest in joining this festival.

The Danny Boys-An Irish influenced folk/punk group.

Sand and Blood-A reggae group that mixes ancient Arab music with Rastafarian style.

Holly and the Gravel Devils-An urban heavy metal group with slightly pagan musical influences.

Dark Ice and Sky-A folk singing duo that is heavily influenced by northern songs.

OK. The RK government has given its blessings for the festivalto begin next week, to allow a few days of rehearsal. The voluntary army has been withdrawn from the southern coasts of RK (stationed there to curtail piracy) and flown into New Hope to provide security for the event. (OOC: is there a RP that could be made out of this?) The program currently organises the different bands performing into genre (to allow viewers to easily pass genres they don't like), with rock towards the front of the performance, but it's not too late to suggest a different style. Bands from Camel Eaters have been signed on and transport is to be arranged.

They'll radio you the location of the boats.

The people can climb onto the helicopters with the use of rope ladders. The helicopters may then land on RK boats.

However, piracy, I can't see a way around that, except for being very carefull, or perhaps military escort.

Anyway, if you have a better idea, go ahead.

That was just if we couldn't think of anything else.

(OOC: Sorry if I got this wrong, but...)
A small fleet of trading ships from Random Kingdom swept into sight of the refugee's fishing boats. The ships managed to stop by a small island in the seas which the musicians had camped on for the duration. The military presence put their guns down and saluted the Alexians. The ships set sail quickly after making sure that nobody was tailing. Radioing ahead, the ships began to make their way to the safe lands of The Golden Hills.

A few new RK bands have signed up for the concert at last-minute:

"Infinite Momentum" - an instrumental band famous for only using synthesizers (synthesized instrumental orchestras are common in RK - they go under the unique (to RK) genre "mach" - but most have real instruments such as guitars and drum kits to accent the synthesis). Their music usually features a lot of pitch-bend and overdrive, and is quite popular with the youth of RK.

"Free Spirit" - a successful reggae band which often 'hijacks' depreciated pop song rhythms and replaces the lyrics with political and rastafarian culture.

"The Cubes" - an old-school pop quintet that uses a mix of voice, traditional and modern instruments.

"Twice" - a two-person plainsong act, rarely heard of these days because of the fact that their favourite style died out centuries ago. Nevertheless, they have been added to the list to fill in the evenings.

"Disagnostic" - a gospel act that, like Free Spirit, usually sing over popular tune.

(OOC: I know most of these are crap acts, but I haven't contributed much to my own festival so I decided to add some filler)

OOC: I'll have a JRVian delegation arrive...

IC: An Airbus A318 decorated in the JRVian national colours and emblem flew into Random Kingdom, onboard was the Chancellor of JRV the Right Honorable John Garrison accompanied by his wife Sophia and other government officials to attend the Unity Festivals.
Government Flight JRVAW 1 VIC-NH landed at the New Kingdom Aviatary in New Hope, where the delegation was greeted by Random Kingdom officials and taken via motorcade to their pre-booked accommodations in the city. Travelling with the Chancellor was a team of ten DPS agents and two Federal Police Department (FPD) officers, each armed with Glock 8 pistols and had with them flak jackets. (OOC: I'm just assuming that the RK authoritites will allow this, since we're so closely allied. If not, just let me know and I'll edit that part out. Thanks.)

Random Kingdom officially gives a warm welcome to the delegation of JRV. May their stay be a safe and enjoyable one. A word of warning though: don't go into the south of RK, as pirate attacks there are still numerous. Other than that, feel free to explore our fair nation.

The draft program has been changed. Instead of grouping by genre, the show will now be grouped by nation of origin. On the first day, there will be a welcome celebration and speech from the governing body of Random Kingdom. On the second day, there will be a final rehearsal of the concert. On the third, the main event of the festival - the concert - will take place in the new convention center in New Hope. A tour of Random Kingdom for the non-native participators will be arranged on the fourth (whilst sporting events will be arranged for the non-participators), followed by the leaving ceremony on the fifth, final day. If any participators wish to instead attend the sporting events instead of the tour, then that can be arranged. Random Kingdom song details will follow this post shortly.

The Random Kingdom lineup will be, unless intervened, last on the concert night and will comprise of the following (in the order given). Below is a program for the Random Kingdom section with (very) basic information on the song played:
(OOC: To make things easier during the concert only the song and artist NAMES will be mentioned, not lyrics (I haven't made any up anyway!)

INFINITE MOMENTUM

"East Pacific" - Infinite Momentum's first composition, released as elevator muzak. Has a strong japanese influence. It was later re-released as the band's debut, and has gained them a strong support from the mach fans. This will open Random Kingdom's contribution to the festival.

"The Liberation Machine" - the latest offering from IM is a mach piece completely saturated with electronic effect. It's a cult thing.

Secret Track - for the benefit of the festival, a previously unreleased track from IM is to be exclusively performed for the concert. The title is kept a closely-guarded secret by the band.

INFINITE MOMENTUM feat. "Twice"
"The Streets" - for the first time ever, a capella singers "Twice" are to be backed by mach band "Infinite Momentum" in a way that can be only described as... "illuminating".

FREE SPIRIT
"Brotherhood"
Free Spirit's debut is set to the tune classic Random Kingdom pop song "In Your Arms", but in off-beat with steel drums. It broadcasts a very strong leftist message.

"Genesis"
This latest song from Free Spirit is typically Rasta in every way. It has special mention for being the only Free Spirit song to have lyrics and an original tune. The song is what they call an "introduction to love".

"Background to Life"
This song is unique as it doesn't rely on lyrics to pass a message across. This instrumental piece can fit easily to anything. It tells of the typical Western life and of enlightenment.

THE CUBES
"Amazon"
This song was written in 2005, yet it sounds like 1985. The Cube's first no.1 hit features a mixture of synthesized sound (though not nearly as common or elaborate as that used in mach), drums, and a few traditional instruments. The lyrics are long and tend to misfit the tune, but for some reason it works.

"Underneath the Right Wing"
This song was banned for some time by the Random Kingdom government because of it's far rightist views. However, records of it were being sold for mass profit on the black market, and the Minister of Public Relations liked its sound, so the ban was repealed reluctantly.

DISAGNOSTIC
"Glory"
This simple gospel song is popular in the more devout Eastern Random Kingdom. It was almost going to be the RK 2005 campaign music but it was rejected for a simple song based on a tune from the outside. However, it still holds merit for the bestselling gospel single in RK.

ALL BANDS
Finale
All of the performances in the Random Kingdom section will join together to form a massive section, which will play the Random Kingdom national anthem, as well as encores.

Hopefully this should work.

“It is nice to be in another friendly country,” Garrison remarked to the First Lady as he stepped out of their limousine.
A DPS agent helped her out. “Yes it is. And such a great country too,” the former beauty queen waved to a few onlookers. The beloved First Lady of JRV was a tall and elegant young woman, with bleached blonde hair that flowed and a large white smile. Kissing her husband gently on the cheek Sophia took his hand and they proceeded.
Armed security personnel escorted the couple as they strolled a few feet into the hotel lobby and were checked in, walking with them was the JRVian Ambassador assigned to Random Kingdom, James Seymour. He was a tall older man with glasses. “Thankfully the weather isn't too bad," he smiled.
Suddenly the Chancellor felt a tap on his shoulder and turned, sure enough it was Ian Gardner, his personal assistant. “Sir, just thought I’d inform you that there has reportedly been a missile attack on the southern coast here – where our forces are patrolling. 20 marines have been killed.”
Garrison sighed, “the pirates?”
“It appears so, they are more sophisticated than we have been giving them credit for. ”
Garrison quietly nodded, "I was hoping that these festivals would be peaceful… Keep me posted."

**

After attending a dinner at the hotel and meeting further with officials from RK, the JRVian delegates retired early back to their quarters. Garrison would hold a conference with defence force heads back at home via satellite in the morning, before leaving on the tour.

Erm, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is managing the event, apologises in full to all visitors about the pirate attacks. Unfortunately, this situation is out of our hands, as the voluntary army is providing festival security. So please try to avoid travelling to the south - the tour of Random Kingdom won't be heading there anyway. During the tour opportunities to perform will be given, but if these are turned down, a brief tour around the area will be given instead. Of course, performers can opt out of the tour if they would rather attend the sporting event. Coaches are provided by the government for the tour, but as this is not first-class travel we provide the option to drive your own vehicle on the tour. The tour route with synopses is shown below:

(All times are approximate (OOC: and are NOT real time!))

Tour departs New Hope Convention Centre at 08:00 GMT

Tour arrives at the Anchor Restaurant, New Hope at 08:15 GMT for refreshments
-- The Anchor Restaurant is located in the Old New Hope (excuse the oxymoron) district, known for its strong British charm. It is one of the few diners in Random Kingdom to be awarded the Food Standards Golden Seal of Approval, and has been booked by the government for the event.

Tour arrives at the Confusion City Memorial, Confusion City, 10:00 GMT (performance opportunity)
-- The Confusion City Memorial is actually a large memorial garden just outside the site of Confusion City (RK's former capital that was wiped out by an ICBM attack) but a prosperous village of survivors and their kin has been founded around it. The village has a handmade gift shop as well as a small area that has been designated for optional performances.

Tour arrives at East Canfield Town, 13:40 GMT
-- East Canfield is literally on the eastern border of the department (RK state) of Antaria and Enigma. The famous Canfield House of Futility is found in here, and is a wealth of knowledge on the Random Kingdom Invertianity religion. Also, a major library is in the Enigma side. Also, there are a few bistros dotted across the town.

Tour arrives at Canfield Stadium, 14:00 GMT (performance opportunity)
-- Canfield Stadium is an open-air soccer pitch that is also used for impromptu concerts and the like. It is at the northern end of the East Canfield suburbs and is a major attraction in the west of Random Kingdom.

Tour arrives at The Light District, New Radiance, 15:00 GMT (performance oppurtunity)
-- The Light District of New Radiance, Antaria has been voted the second best area in Random Kingdom for its nightlife (first was the Ibizaria District in the capital). By the day, however, the clubs are packed with youths (there is no law in RK regarding age limits), particularly college students as a prestigious institute for higher education can be found in New Radiance. It is also the last oppurtunity to eat before the long journey to the Northern Border. There's always room for a new face in the clubs.

Tour moves onto the LD92 freeway, 15:30 GMT
-- The Long Distance 92 is one of the very few freeways in Random Kingdom (the road budget is in dire need of a boost). It is littered with laybys leading to fast food, motels and banks, so is the perfect way to get to the Northern Border. Here the tour splits (North Random Kingdom is populated by geckoids and not all tour-followers will want to be introduced, so a second tour line will bypass the north and head straight back.

Return Tour arrives at New England City, 17:00 GMT (Performance opportunity)
-- New England is located in the north-east of human Random Kingdom, and is a major farming community. Most people here live on rural farms, connected to a central downtown with markets and superstores. It is one of the most popular
Northern Tour arrives at Andoron City, 19:20 GMT
-- Andoron City is the capital of geckoid-run Random Kingdom. For security and cosmetic reasons, the geckoids will not be attending the mainstream concert. Andoron is famous for its unmatched hospitality to human visitors. Whilst some far northern geckoid cities outlaw or limit humans, Andoron is free. Also, the northern lands are far more fertile, so agriculture is popular here, and therefore most geckoid-ruled settlements are small, rural villages. The capital, however, is a glittering exception.

Return Tour arrives at Lower New Hope, 21:00 GMT
-- The northern suburbs of New Hope, Lower NH is the final destination of the return tour. Here a final opportunity for refreshments can be exploited at the Midnight Cafe.
Northern Tour arrives at Bordarte Hill, 21:00 GMT(Performance opportunity)
Whilst the other tour has almost reached the Convention Centre, the northern tour is performing at the most northern point in Random Kingdom. From this concert hall on a hill, the rest of southern Golden Hills.can be seen. The Random Kingdom government has persuaded the reluctant geckoid owners to allow humans in for the night.

Return Tour arrives at New Hope Convention Centre, 21:30 GMT

Northern Tour arrives at New Hope Convention Centre, 05:30 GMT
-- A very late night on the Northern tour with over 21 hours of activity! The valets will carefully make the beds in the on-site hotel whilst the tours are running.

OOC: Let me know if any of this is too much, too crude, too long or anything.

Mr. and Mrs. Garrison enjoyed the climate and scenery while they waited for the festival to officially begin...

Sophia lay back in a deck chair wearing nothing but a blue bikini, the sun shining brightly down on her almost bare body as she sipped a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Her husband came to sit beside her. "How is the situation along the coast?" She asked, as he ran a hand gently through her fair hair.
"Well, we're sending a lot of our troops from down there up here to help with security. It's died down a lot."
"So we won't get to blast those pirates to kingdom come?"
"Sorry honey," he grinned at her and got up. "Come on, let's go for a walk."

(the goverment officially never knew about the musicians. By attending the festival they were breaking the law.)

when you tried to arrest/assasinate the musicians or whatever you did, you found they fought back with cleverly concealed hunting knives.

However, they are not really a match for soldiers or police.

OOC: I didn't. The government just covered up the disappearance, and the radio transmission has been largely forgotten about in the celebration.

Yes, but they have to disapear somehow.

You can cover it up, but you have to make them dissapear first, and I was just naturally assuming the dissapearence was caused by assasination or arrest, as is the traditional method.

Whilst a discussion blared on in the second-floor front auditorium, on the first floor, the musicians representing Random Kingdom were rehearsing. The rehearsal blocks on the ground were being prepped for the other acts. On the third floor, a footbridge to the top floor of the Houses of Ministry was being opened, by PR minister Peter Doors. In the rooftop recreation area a few visitors were relaxing. No-one anticipated what was about to happen.

The Convention Centre collapsed at the foundation and all five floors crashed into a secondary school adjacent. The bridge broke off the centre and, since the part of the Houses of Ministry it was connected to was crudely designed, fell to the ground, narrowly missing a group of fans asking someone for autographs. Thankfully, the government reports that no foreign visitors were in any way harmed. However, the concert has been postponed until further notice.

The tragedy above (reported on national television) was quickly disproved as a hoax intended to disrupt the festival when reports came in of visitors returning from the convention centre fully intact! The whole event WILL go ahead as planned.

So have the musiscians disapeared or not?
OOC: Sorry, I didn't make this clear. When I said the government had covered up the disappearance, I mean the disappearance of the musicians from Alexias (to stop the Alexian government from noticing, apparently). I know there's really nothing to cover up, but the RK government doesn't know that. No, they haven't disappeared from RK.

This is 205 Enigma Radio AM, broadcasting from the city of New Hope on Medium Wave, and from the beginning of February, FM! Yes, the station will still broadcast MW for all you cheapskates who can't afford to upgrade. Sure, people say we're backwards, but hey, what do you expect with hardly any stock market? And now... the news, from the desk of local news station NRKC.

<catchy news bulletin-esque bassline>
This is Ant Statz, your newscaster for the early bulletin. Today, if you haven't noticed, is the opening of the unity concert. Get down there people!
In other news, Mr. Tiddles, beloved pet cat of famous mach artist Stan D'Mann, was found stuck up a tree. Trivial, you may moan. This tree just happened to be miles away from Stan's house... in Geckratonia! Small world, no?
Today's slow news-wise, so we'll hand you back to Enigma Radio early. Ciao, people!

And now... a political broadcast from the Government of Random Kingdom... Remember, head down to the Convention Centre in New Hope for the concert... it IS there, you know.

The Chancellor and First Lady with their official delegation arrived at the New Hope Convention Centre amidst tight security. The Republican Marine guard had begun screening non-VIP's before granting entry, patrols routinely scanned the premises for any explosive devices, and armed sentries were stationed throughout.

Yes, well, happens I suppose.

Oh, ok, and, during the shows, um, sorry I did not get around to it.

The band is

"Midplane Shepeards", a folk music band from just north of the central province, members of one of the mixed tribes.

They play traditional music and guitars, flutes and the like from the area.

Part of Songlist
"Heardin' right Along"
"The Mighty King Riker"
"A man whole and at home"
"Never stray again"
"Battle on the midland planes"
"Skyroar"
"From Above!"
"The Midland Fussiliers"
"Queen Helen"
"StoneHell"

*Songs Banned by Alexian Law*
"The Mighty King Riker"
"Battle on the Midland Planes"
"Skyroar"
"From Above!"
"The Midland Fussiliers"
"Stonehell"

Will say they play others, but I can't think of anything.

OK.

The concert opens with a prologue from the RK Representative of Foreign Affairs, Colin Sharz:

"Greetings ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the first Random Kingdom Unity Festival Concert. We hope you enjoy the performace as much as we did rehearsing it. And, yes, there will be refreshments passing by. Sit back, sip your cola and enjoy the show."
