Automagfreek: 'HOUND V2' ballistic missile re-commissioned

OOC: ;) I'm sure alot of you old timers will remember the original HOUND, the largest nuclear weapon ever built by a modern tech nation.

++++++++++++++++++

-AMF News Update-

Good evening. The Automagfreek defense department has released a statement in which they are now claiming to be bringing back into the fray the most devastating nuclear missile in AMF history, the HOUND V2. Here are the details released by the defense depatment:

The High Orbital Ultra Nuclear Device Version 2 has long been a relic of Automagfreek's past. In this day and age when Automagfreek is no longer looked on as a protectorate of the light and has been scolded and plotted against as much as it has, it is Lord Dreadfire's order that we re-commission...the HOUND V2.

The original HOUND was a massive nuclear missile that could only successfully be shot from space it was so large. The 'launcher' that it sat in alone cost hundreds of millions of dollars, and the project was ultimatly abandoned. The HOUND could easily make a crater out of a good portion of a nation, and it was only used twice against actual targets.

The HOUND V2 however was a much more feasible weapon, and I am here today to share with you some specs:

HOUND V2

http://games.activision.com/games/civilization/nuke.jpg

Powerplant: Resi Corp G6 Thrustmaster engine
Thrust: 540,300 pounds
Length: 80 feet
Diameter: 9 feet
Weight: 89,432 pounds
Range: 7,000+ miles
Speed: n/a

You may be asking yourself why there is no stat for speed. I will explain shortly.

The HOUND V2 is a very large ballistic cluster missile that is powered by the most modern Resi Corp powerplant available. The missile can either be fired from the ground or from space, but space is prefered. If fired from the ground, it will exit the atmosphere and once over it's target it will re-enter. The HOUND V2 is sheilded by multilayered titanium alloys and ballistic ceramic layers. It is equipped with several sensor arrays, including one controlled by it's own on board AI system. If the HOUND's sensors detect an object within a certain close proximity, it will immediatly initiate it's final phase.

The final phase is this:

When the HOUND's sensors are tripped or when it reaches it specified height (this height tends to be very high up, for best results), the nose cone on the HOUND blows off, revealing two dozen 3 megaton nuclear warheads (OOC: not missiles, basically just raw warheads with small rocket boosters and altitude detectors). These warheads are then fired from the HOUND using retro rockets and propelled to the ground under power of their own dedicated thrusters. At a great height these projectiles will spread themselves out over the course of several miles, and the resulting explosion, if done correctly, could render a large section of a nation lifeless. The speed at which these smaller warheads travel is classified, but in combination with the speed already reached by the HOUND when it goes into it's final stage......let's just say it's pretty god damn fast.

The price of the HOUND V2 is classified and at this time it will not be sold to any other nation. The number of missiles Automagfreek has in it's possession is also classified (OOC: Not that many), but more are to be constructed shortly. This design has been a long held trademark of Automagfreek (OOC: July '03), and any missile similar in design will be infringing upon trademarked AMF property.

The Protectorate of Angelico applauds Automagfreek on their scientific and military achievement. Such a system is a daunting example of the dedication and ingenuity of your citizens. The Protectorate furthermore desires to inquire whether or not a demilitarized variant of this launch vehicle will become commercially available. Such access to a high-grade, high-power launch vehicle would be invaluable to small space agencies in their pursuit of scientific achievement.

While certainly not a new technology, it is indeed an impressive piece of weaponry.

And a most interesting question you ask. The G6 Thrustmaster from the Resi Corporation is indeed a very powerful engine, and per your inquiry we will strongly consider releasing a demilitarized version of this rocket. We will let you know if this project will meet final approval or not.

The Nation of Wolfish well remembers the stir the HOUNDS caused on NS. Our own space program was pushed along by a desire to obtain such outstanding power...

But we also remember well the terror those weapons caused as they rained down on AMFs foes. [ooc: Bissons wasn't it?]

We would remind AMF, and the most magnificient Lord Dreadfire, of the great responsibility that comes with such weapons - and that they only be used when the hordes are pressed upon your palaces gates.

OOC: The HOUND's advanced shielding and AI sensor array set it apart by itself. The warheads inside are not less than a megaton, they are a megaton. I'm sure I could push the payload even further, but anything over 3 megatons is really overkill. But everyone knows how I like ovekill, so I might push it up there eventually.

It's not that much bigger than a Peacekeeper, so it's 'signature' will be slightly disguised. There's nothing like trying to shoot down a ballistic missile only to find out that suddenly there are a dozen of them traveling over Mach 27 about to 'carpet nuke' you.

and i meant > 1 megaton

OOC: Yes, but it is not a cluster nuke. While the Peacekeeper is capable of striking several targets, the HOUND is more of a carpet nuke device. Maximum area of destruction is key. But fine, I will up the stats then. I was originally going to make them 3 megaton warheads, but the thought of dozens of people running in this thread screaming 'NUH UH!' turned me off.

And the Peacekeeper houses up to 10 warheads up to 300 kilotons each. ;)

OOC: Oops, didn't see this part. Yeah, The bisons was one of the targets. I dropped 48 HOUNDS on his ass, and those were the original HOUNDs. I don't know the exactly how many megatons it was, but it was in the triple digits. 1 HOUND destroyed his entire capital, leaving it nothing more than a glass filled crater. So yeah, needless to say he was pretty much screwed.

And that was the last we saw of The bisons.

OOC: This thread makes me glad that the first thing my nation stated developing was its missile defence system.

It reminds me that no recent upgrades have been made, and that I have the money to do so. Notquiteaplace is a defensive nation and I dont inted to have to use the system, but it's still has to be the best in the world.

Sorry for the following threadjack but frankly what better motive for buying my system than this.

IC: the notquiteaplace missile defence system is one of the best in the world, it is relaible, works on several levels with different types of sensors and defence platforms working togehter for maximal efficiency. We will fit other nations with these systems at a cost that varies with your nation size. But first we will be adding sattelites that scan on more than UV and visible spectrums (possible IR or even gamma, though such a scanner would probably non viable, radio will be added allowing craft or missile designations to be read if transmitted, this will allow the system to shoot at any un registered aricraft and ignore commercial and pre registered flights when the nation is under attack) and upgrading our radar, sattelite accuracy and missiles/ This system also includes anti aircraft defense and anti sattelite weapons. It is effectively an all round "unwanted foreign object" (excuse the pun) swatter.

We suggest you make un registered flying illegal when your nation is under attack and make sure all aerodromes know this. Any craft already up when the system goes on to defending will be ignored unless the system is told not to.

There is also a total shutdown option which shoot anything.

We will be able to commence with yours in one year and ours wil be finsihed in three.

OOC: all enquires and orders through telegram please, not posting in AMF's thread. Any important questions will be edited into this post.
