The Convoy, after leaving Chukraine, had sailed south down, and then would proceed up into the Haven Strait to reach East Hogsweat, and the Capital of Dorsalgrad. After sailing for seventeen days, nobody had suspected, or even thought that a pirate attack was a possibility. Such ideas were discarded by Naval Command. However, Convoys were far too unguarded and were now left easy targets by organised pirates. With only three escorts, the precious Steel used to make the new Type 16's carried by Waiter, Methodical, Packhorse, and Mule, plus the radar systems carried by Assistant, Economic, and Flourish, could and would easily be captured by anyone that had.. interests in the technology.

"Ensign, report?" Captain Tupolevski was not taking any chances - every two hours he demanded a situation report from his Ensigns.

"Captain, it's all clear. Nothing on RADAR or SONAR from any of the ships. Escorts are clear, we are good to go." The Ensign paused, and then sighed. "It's cold and lonely out here"

Another problem about the Escorts was that they were seriously undermanned - all three ships had only half complement. The bridge of the Loyzung, counting Captain Tupolevski, had only four out of the needed six crewmen.

"Indeed it is." Tupolevski replied slowly, slipping another cigar into his mouth. The bridge was quiet for a momen. Finally, the young female ensign, Anakovka, spoke up.

"Haven's pretty" she remarked. Tupolevski sniggered.

"Only a person like you would say that, only a person like you..."

OOC: And my ships are:

VPS Captain [flag]
VPS London
VPS Dullitch
VPS Pilon
VPS Tham
VPS River

All are merchantmen with a smattering of stolen 30mm cannon, 0.50" machineguns and a few harpoon missiles. Harpoons are sneared at by the praetonian navy so they aren't too hard to find on the pirate blackmarket if you know where to go, as are Blowpipe anti-air missiles.

IC: "Sir we've been here weeks and not come across a single ship yet," said 'Captain' Gettus of the 'Vengance Pirate Ship Dullitch'.

"Don't worry Captain, we'll be coming across them soon enough," replied 'Admiral' Levictus, "And when they do, those bloody Hogsweatians will be sorry they attacked at the Falklands all those years ago." The Admiral had lost his leg in the naval engagement around the Falklands when he was an Ensign, and most of his ship-mates had lost their lives. His 'Vengance Fleet' has been set up to attack and plunder Hogsweatian ships. His crew, however, only wanted loot, and their impatience to get it whilst the Admiral stalked barely-used Hogsweatian-only shipping lanes was beginning to show.

"But WHEN?" He shouted through barred teeth. He calmed down a little and went on, "We are running out of food, we have little money and the ships need to be repaired after that scuffle outside Praextremis gunboat station..."

His conversation was interrupted by a Leuitenant who ran into the room and said, panting, "Enemy ships off the starboard bow, sir!"

"Excellent!" Exclaimed the Admiral, glad that his internal problems were over, "raise the colours, Leuitenant, and ready missiles to fire."

"Yes, sir!" He said, and ran off to a different part of the ship.

Several minutes later the Admiral was on the bridge of his flagship, the VPS Captain, signalling to the unsuspecting Hogsweatians over the radio.

"Hogsweatian vessels. You have 1 minute in which to lower your colours and prepare to be boarded. If you do so peacefully I will garauntee the safe passage of your crews and your ships back to friendly port once we have taken what we wish to take. If you do not lower your colours peacefully then your warships will be sunk, and half of your crews will be taken as prisoners." He waited for the answer...
