ETHICS UNION NEWS AGENCY PUBLIC BROADCAST - NEW MOSCOW

"Bad news for the Central Spires today," started a cool, composed news anchor sitting next to an equally confident looking young woman, his partner. "After a crippling intelligence failure, several right-wing neighbors of ours have been searching their travel databases the names of several members of the once prestigious if quiet Ministry of Intelligence."

The television cut to the image of a tired looking elderly man leaning heavily on his cane, surrounded by hundreds of native and foreign reporters demanding a statement. "There really isn't much to be said," he started, rubbing his eyes for a moment before continuing. "We found a few foreign operatives in our midst too late. All we can do is make sure this doesn't happen again."

The young, female anchor returned to the screen with a smile, whisking a loose strand of her red hair away from her face casually. "More than thirty percent of all of the operatives working for The Ethics Union have been taken into custody, and of this group, only half have been heard of in the past twenty-four hours, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs."

The television cut to footage of Ilrath, capital city of Demnia, the camera panning from shots of the capital building to the rest of the city. “Many of the agents had been sent to lessen the damage caused by radically religious regimes, such as the theocracy of Demnia. Approximately one million were recently burned alive, and because of the shortcoming of the Ministry of Intelligence, less than ten families were able to be saved from the prisons before the mass-execution, regardless of having well over seventy-five operatives in that field, as our analysts have guessed.”

The camera shifted somewhat dramatically back to the first anchor. "The undercover operatives had been doing their best to get dissidents safely out of nations who otherwise would have had them executed for their political or religious beliefs, but a few of those nations have presented evidence of sabotage and inciting revolution as well."

CHAIRMAN BORRIS YUKIVITSKI'S OFFICE - CENTRAL SPIRES

The young, recently elected Borris "Ethics" Yukivitski sat slumped in his plush seat at his end of the long table of government officials, flanked by aides. This was quite a first issue to deal with, as the media enjoyed reminding him. The unnerving silence was clearly getting to the other officials as they waited for him to say something after he slapped the television off and began massaging his scalp. After what seemed like a year passed, he sat up straight, scowling.

"Sir, the sooner you give us a plan, the better," whispered one of the aides, only to be dismissed with a nod.

"I don't care how this happened," Borris started, standing up and leaning on the table with his knuckles. "You all need to do better, starting now, but we can't afford to cry over spilled milk, at least not now anyway. Expect some sort of retribution from the capitalists, and do your best to get the peoples' confidence back. They want to believe in you guys, but right now, they feel like their great patriotism is, frankly, questionable."

From the other end of the table, the Minister of Internal Affairs stood up. "That's all good and well, Ethics, but it's a bit broad. Can you be a bit more specific with your plan?"

Borris could see where the minister was coming from, but he was still a bit disappointed to see the man struggle with the fact that they had to wait and see. He stood up straight and folded his hands together at the small of his back and smiled reassuringly. "They'll all respond differently, so we do have to keep an open mind. Try to be as peaceful as possible, and I advise you all watch your steps. I want five men watching every one person who comes in with the diplomats they'll surely be sending, secure extra funds for the anti-missile system, and make sure that the media knows that we've already detained the two traitors responsible for this, even if he hasn't been doing very much talking. Be sure to have their trials public.”

He paused and folded his arms now, shifting his weight. "The whole world is watching now, and we have to make sure we don't get thrown in with the stereotype of 'left-wing countries are all a bunch of spies.' At the same time, we can’t sit down and let this sort of thing keep going, not even for one second. Make the changes you need to in order to make sure we’re better about this in the future, and send diplomats immediately to all the affected countries, along with an additional bodyguard division. This issue will haunt us for a while, but we'll get through it soon enough. But like I said, be ready for a long, hard trip. This meeting is adjourned. Get to work."

As the officials left his spacey office, he began typing up condemnation of the genocide in Demnia, though he knew all the speechwriters and editors would probably already have stuff for him to pick from. Pausing to rub his forehead again, he leaned over to one of the aides and said smoothly, "Get me some vodka, please."

OOC: It is fair to assume that if you're nation isn't left-wing or has low levels of civil or political rights that you had spies and commando teams running around saving dissidents. The special operatives try to work peacefully and covertly, but their number one priority is saving dissidents, so a few carefully planned assassinations may have occurred. You determine your losses, of course, but keep it realistic. I'll go with whatever you want. But yes, most of you can assume that your nations were affected. And simply to keep the game civil, I'm the proctor. Happy gaming!

ooc: so what do we do, who's the enemy etc.?

Here's a summary. A lot of Ethics Union spies were caught trying to get people out of other countries, and even start uprisings in a few others. However, because of an information leak, the names and descriptions of all the agents have been compromised. Whether or not your nation was among those that found out about the spies is your decision.

If your nation was infiltrated, then I suppose The Ethics Union is your enemy. What do you do? There are a number of things you can do. You can round up all Ethics Union citizens in your nation and have them jailed or executed, you can execute all dissidents in your country, or if you feel like being ridiculosuly extreme, you can even declare war over the issue (but that might be overkill). It's toally your decision as to what you do.

"Hmm... the Ethics Union? Heh, their espionage forces are nothing but idiots. They can't do much right can they."

Maia Li, head of the Infiltrator's Corps folded up her portable computer while on the park bench in the Imperial Palace. Nearby, 2 large Gerash from Ghargonia were having a punching contest. Hmm... maybe the government could send a few advisors over to assisst their espionage forces, or maybe not. Either way, the Ethics Union spies were caught as a result of stupidity, stupidity, stupidity. Maia got up and walked into palace.

OOC:We have never met but let us assume that you have operatives inside my nation and we found out about them via this intelligence error.
IC:A Consortium Armored Car pulled up in front of a apartment. Several rooms in the apartment were rented out by intelligence operatives from the Ethics Union. Supporting the Consortium Agents were several police cars fully loaded with uniformed policemen. The policemen got out and sealed off the building, keeping their XM-50 Submachineguns pointed at the entrances. The Consortium Agents began to move into the building.

-An URBAN HOTEL IN THE LANDS OF RED TIDE-

The agents were in a room on one of the higher floors with several rescued dissidents being interviewed and prepared to sneak back into The Ethics Union. The families were all huddled around one big man typing at a computer when the sound of an armored car and several policy sirens broke the quiet.

Everybody in the room froze, and the big man, Jack Hatchet, could feel his blood stop. He pointed at his partner and gestured for him to look out the window, and the man nodded and peeked out between the blinds. He blinked a few times before he crossed himself, turning ever so slowly back toward Jack.

"There's an armored transport and lots of police, Jack. I don't see their special team, but they obviosuly have the building surrounded and everything. Jack? I don't want to die!" he whispered raggedly, trembing harshly as he urinated in his pants.

Jack was a bit more composed, but not by much. "Shut up!" he snapped, fumbling for a small pistol lying next to the computer. He waved the families out of the room, shoving a baby in his mother's arms before shoving her out of the room and locking the door. His partner moved a bookshelf in front of the door and they closed the blinds a lot more tightly before typing madly at the computer for help and making phone-calls to the Ethics Union's embassy.

-CENTRAL SPIRES, OFFICE OF CHAIRMAN BORRIS YUKIVITSKI-

"Dammit!" snapped Borris at his aides. "I don't want us to look even dumber, but we can't just let them die! Get the media on this and scramble our embassy in Red Tide!"

One of the generals slammed his knuckles down on the table, stopping Chairman Yukivitski in his tracks. "Are you out of your mind, sir? The only way they're getting out of there alive is if we get a chopper in there fast, and it's unlikely even then! It's the least we can do! If your petty diplomacy is as good as you think it is, then they'll be able to keep the peace while we move in!"

There was an awkward silence, but it was soon filled by the sounds of a news reporter already talking about the situation in Red Tide; the general finished with a quick, "Dammit! It's their best shot! I'm authorizing it right now, you can thank me tommorow, sir!"

-AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT TO THE LEADERSHIP OF RED TIDE-

My Friends:

We apologize for giving you no choice but to do exactly what you are doing. However, I am sure there is no need to do anything but deliver our operatives back to us. The international community would view such a thing as very merciful on your part and would respect you for years to come.

To further encourage you, The Ethics Union is offering 5.2 million of our labor tokens to let our extraction team get our men out before the situation escalates any more than it already has, which we firmly believe is in the interests of both of our nations.

We eagerly await your response.

Sincerely,
Chairman Borris Yukivitski

-AN AIRSTRIP IN THE ETHICS UNION-

"Get a move on!" said air chief William McDouglas as he clapped, trying to get the techies and the pilots to hurry up and get going. He himself had been an extracted dissident, and so the issue was personal with him. He almost felt that by not doing his best, he'd be spitting in the face of the man and woman who'd saved his family only so many years ago.

In just one more minute, the choppers were on their way to that hotel to try to get the two operatives out. The machine guns in the aircraft had been replaced with tear gas launcers and smokescreen bomb launchers, two non-lethal devices that the commanders had thought would be most appropriate for the job. The two choppers actually had a good chance of getting there in time, but that was theory. There was also a good chance that Red Tide wouldn't accept the deal and that they'd just shoot them down. Could they make it?

Official Reply From Red Tide
"All we will be doing to your operatives is some interrogation. If we find they have found nothing... that we dont want them to they will be returned unharmed. If on the other hand they had found something that they shouldnt have. We will have no choice but to detain them... permanantly."

The Consortium Agents swept the building with utmost profession clearing one room after another. Until they reached the room where the Ethic Unions Agents were.

BAM!

The door was kicked open and a flashbomb rolled in. When the Ethic Unions agents sight came back there were a whole squad(10 men) of Consortium Agents. Their hard cold, unfeeling, almost mindless eyes stared at the Ethic Unions Agents. The point man stepped forward, the other agents had their silenced XM-50s pointed at the men. The point man spoke in that cold unfeeling voice, "You are coming with us."

-A HOTEL IN THE LANDS OF RED TIDE-

The door busted open and, as fast as Jack Hatchet was, the flash bomb's explosions was faster. In the few moments it took for him and his partner to get their vision back, there were ten big guys surrounding them with menacing submachineguns pointed professionally at their hearts.

"You're coming with us," said one of them, stepping forward as the leader ever so cautiously.

Holding their pistols a bit more shakily, the two partners looked at each other with frogs in their throats. Well, this was the end, but they did have one more thing to do. As his partner dropped his gun and raised his hands, Jack slowly moved his pistol to point at the computer. He didn't want to freak them out, so he moved extra slowly. He unloaded into it, and a moment later, it was a pile of unrecognizable, chipped silicone. Jack finally dropped his own pistol, smiling. It was the least he could do.

"You got us," he said, reconsidering his job only just now.

-CENTRAL SPIRES, OFFICE OF CHAIRMAN BORRIS YUKIVITSKY-

The aide handed him the telegram from the Red Tide, and the room got quiet real fast. Borris flicked the paper once to get it straight before he read it.

The awkward silence consumed a minute as he read it and considered it, nobody wanting to be the first to be noticed while Chairman Yukivitski was in such a bad mood.

"DAMMIT!" yelled Borris, involuntarily snatching a lamp and squeezing it until the whole top of it collapses in on itself, shooting shards of light bulb into his hand. "Get those men out of there immediately, dammit! What the hell are you all waiting for?"

"Sir," whispered a liason as soothingly as he could, "they've already been picked up. The choppers haven't been shot down, but it'd be a risky mission."

"It was riskier for the operatives to stick their neck out for us and join the Ministry of Intelligence, you prick!" Yukivitski snapped, pushing the man away from him before even trying to count to ten and breathe deeply.

Once again, the general stood up and shook his head. "You'd only be handing over more of our men, sir. That's the fact." The silence settled in as Borris wrestled with his demons.

He foreced a chuckled as he wiped his eyes, shaking his head. "I hate it when you're right, you know." He rubbed his eyes once more for good measure. "Tell their media about it though. Can't do too much to the men in the spotlight, can you?" Borris forced another chuckle as he swigged his shot of vodka, letting the burn in the back of his throat take his mind off of everything for the moment it lasted. It was all up to the embassy, the foreign media, and the agents themselves now.

-THE ETHICS UNION'S EMBASSY IN THE LANDS OF RED TIDE-

"The situation is under control," spoke a diplomat from behind a podium to the local press, almost blinded from all the camera flashes. "We are confident an agreement of sorts can be met between our two nations. The subjects of the matter, a Mr. Jack Hatchet and a Mr. Alexei Ward, have only been operating in this fine land for two months now."

Another man behind him was holding back to pictures of the men, both photos of them with their families. "Just look at them. Now, who would really want to keep these men from their homes any longer?"

The press conference at the embassy went on for a bit longer and more details were given, but the diplomat couldn't get that last question out of his mind.

The Consortium Agent shrugged when the Jack shot the computer, "That was only a secondary objective." The Consortium Agents hustled them down the stairs. A RTN News Crew had arrived. Ilyana Sendora(OOC:not good with Russian names) was there with the Camera Crew. She was saying the following. "The Consortium and Red Tide Police made a tremendous arrest today. They arrested a group of foriegn spies who have been reported to be from the Ethics Union. Wait... here they come now." The camera had turned and focused on the Ethic Union Operatives. Their faces were clearly seen on the camera. "This is obviously another victory agianst foriegn intellegince forces trying to undermind our way of life for the Corporate Dictatorship of Red Tide. Now back to you in the studio Tatania."

The Ethic Union Agents were loaded into the armored truck, quickly followed by the Consortium Agents which started up and drove off. Two Police cars lead and followed it as it drove towards the cities Consortium Agency Building.

ooc: Mind If i have a couple of agents in your lands RedTide? They're not removing dissidents, just doing a bit of spying and maybe dealing drugs and arms to support themselves. If not, consider this post deleted.

Maia changed the window on her Palm pilot to "phone" and dialed the number of Boris Yukivitsky.

The phone was guaranteed to get through all the holds, junctions etc. on the phone lines, right to the Premier's desk. Alot of creative hacking and electronic work helped with that.

"Hello, this is Maia Li from the People's Republic of MassPwnage Intelligence services. Just a friendly phone call to remind you that we have a few agents in the land of RedTide. "You don't know what you're doing, you blood-thirsty little devil!" screamed a diplomat at the general.

"Yeah? Well, you're nothing but a yellow-bellied munchkin! Freak!" barked the general back, raising a fist.

As the general raised his hand, a cell phone began to ring, catching everybody by surprise. They all looked around a bit, and Borris blushed a bit. It was his phone, and he was such a staunch cell-phone hater, so he had every right to blush a bit.

"I could have sworn I turned it off!" he explained, trying to turn it off instead of answering it. "In fact, I thought it was out of batteries!" Somehow, the ringing just kept going, getting louder and louder. More phones on his desk began to ring, and his eyes grew a little bit before he finally gave in and answered his cell phone.

The phone was guaranteed to get through all the holds, junctions etc. on the phone lines, right to the Premier's desk. Alot of creative hacking and electronic work helped with that.

"Maia Li? Peoples' Republic of MassPwnage?" It took him a few tries to pronounce "pwnage" correctly before an aide leaned over and told him how to say it. "Thank you for your help, but I just don't know, Miss Li."

By this point, everybody in the room was listening in on the call. Chairman Yukivitski tried to shoo them all away as he continued. "Naturally, we're very interested, but I can't say we want to risk anything. Let's put it this way. Should my two men, er, amazingly fall into your hands and you freely give them to us, then we might make a donation of, say, 5.2 million labor tokens to your cause. Now, I don't mean to be rude, but I think this conversation is over, Miss Li, but I look forward to talking to you again." The cell phone snapped shut and he looked up with a blank expression to the rest of his men before anger washed over him again.

"What the hell does it take to get a good security team!?"

Back in MassPwnage:

Maia hung up and dialed the 2 agents in Red Tide.

"Rafael, Jan, yea, I need you to find 2 agents from the Ethics Union. They should be.... at whatever the hell they have for government buildings in RedTide2, a Consortium building or something."

Jan and Rafael, unlike the lizardmen/human-lizard hybrids (Maia's one) back in MassPwnage were human. They were members of the Hidden Eye (Intelligence Division of MassPwnage). They lived in a rather normal upscale apartment in RedTide as a normal young couple and seemed to their neighbors to keep to themselves most of the time.

Rafael got off the secure exchange phone.

"Hey Jan, congratulations, we won a free mission. What are our chances of breaking into the consortium building?"

The armored truck drove past the two 15.5mm heavy machinegun nests gaurding the cities Consortium Agency. The imposing black building towered 3 stories above them. Snipers placed on the top were constantly scanning the electric fence. While Consortium Agents patrolled the perimeter 24/7. The armored truck drove into a underground parking lot. The Agents hustled the two men out. They were escorted into a pitch black room, and forced to sit down in two chairs. They were then strapped into said chairs. The Consortium Agents left the men in pur darkness. Then a bright light suddenly came on and shown in their eyes. "How is it? Just a little to bright? Good." A voice said. Behind the men a G-Man walked up. "Lets get down to buisiness shall we? Who are you working with. And what have you found out?"

ooc: well, the entire BASIS of this espionage game is that there are agents in your territory. Feel free to infiltrate my lands, it might be a little difficult though.

"Not good, we'll need a G50 (VTOL Gunship) to break in, either that or some serious firepower."

Raphael rolled his eyes, "It's not our job to play action heros. Oh well, review the news again... What street is that?"

Jan replayed the tape of the news... "Hmm... looks like 5th street, they're taking them straight to the consortium building."

"I'll call back headquarters. Meanwhile, try to make sure the cops haven't discovered US yet." said Raphael.

They weren't physically bugged with anything they knew about, and their apartment was flush of any potential sound recording devices (ooc: if there are sound recorders in the electronics, they would strip them, or if they can't be removed, speak in some sort of code). Also their main spy activities were conducted away from any windows so none one could snoop in.

Back at the palace, People's Republic of MassPwnage:

"Hmm... they found them. Good." Maia called the Premier again.

Of course we’ve heard the allegations. Who hasn’t? Several right-wing countries have come across Ethic Union intelligence officers aiding dissident political factions. These dissidents wouldn’t exist, however, if the countries didn’t strip their own citizens of political freedoms.

-RED TIDE CONSORTIUM BUILDING-

The two agents were husteled along through the halls of the Consortium building and tossed into dark room before being buckled into their seats. Just like they were trained, they began breathing as fast as they could, knowing that their only hope was to buy time.

A light snapped on right in their faces, a very bright one at that, and a voice began speaking to them mockingly. "How is it? Just a little bright? Good." Of course there was no response from the two men. They just kept on breathing.

The voice continued. "Let's get down to business. Who are you working with? And what have you found out?" There was a sort of gurgled, lazy response before the two men slumped down against their restraits, passed out from hyperventalating. Their skills had been grossly under-estimiated, it seemed. Afterall, they were professionals, no?

-OFFICE OF CHAIRMAN BORRIS YUKIVITSKI-

Alone in his office, Borris, or "Ethics" as some called him, paced back and forth. What a bad deal! Just as he thought that, the phone connected to the special line rang. What does that lady want? he thought to himself as he picked up.

"Yea, we found your agents, although it'll be a little tricky breaking them out. They're currently at the consortium building in (location of city), they might be moved later though if my agents are discovered."

"Ma'am, we appreciate what you're doing and all, but don't make me repeat myself. The Ethics Union will only care when they're at our doorstep. Excuse my harshness, but this is a bad time. Good night." He slammed the phone down, just wanting to get away from it all.

He dived into the overstuffed chair and tried to relax for a moment, but already somebody was knocking at his door.

"WHAT!?" he shouted, frustrated with his peoples' lack of ability to do things on their own (or so it seemed). One of his aides slipped in with a new report, detailing the response of another nation with notes about what his avisors in the next room though about it.

He rubbed his forehead a bit, disheartened at seeing how blind this nation was. Duh! If the nation had political freedoms, there wouldn't be any dissidents!

"Jeese!" he said out loud, gesturing the aide to leave him. He counted to twenty before he made his big decision. He picked up another secure phone and called over to the embassy in Red Tide. After being patched through to the right man, he said simply, "Get me a room at the embassy."

-PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE ETHICS UNIONS' EMBASSY IN RED TIDE-

"Look, the problems are almost all solved!" said the head diplomat to the many members of the local press, shushing them with a single gesture. "Chairman Yukivitski is coming to stay at the embassy himself to help ease over this issue. Our people simply call him Ethics, as do member states of the United Nations' people, so we believe that the leadership of Red Tide will enjoy the man's morals. We think this will help ease our relations."

-INSIDE THE EMBASSY-

The G-Man just stood there. Patient as ever. He walked around the chair. And stood there peering at the men through his glasses. He stood there in his trenchcoat, much like a 1950s goverment agent. He waited... he was waiting for them to come back out of unconsiousness.

As for the diplomat on the phone... he was listning to hold music(which happened to be the music to Red Tides National Anthem). The official had told them to wait while he checked the schedule. It took awhile but they came back. "It turns out the Head of the Consortium, our federal agency/counterintelliegnce agency/intelligence agency, will be avalible. His name is Nicholas Wrightson. Several hours later, the two agents gained their consciousness. They blinked a bit and looked around before beginning the process of hyperventalation again.

-AT THE EMBASSY-

The secretary slapped his forehead. "Is the leader of your consortium the leader of the whole nation? The plan for this trip is to have your leader sit and talk with our leader, after all," he paused, and having grown a little irritated with the rudeness of the guy on the other end of the phone, he finished the sentence with, "Comrade," silently telling himself "touche."

"Now answer my questions, we can do this the easy way... or the fun way."

The official replied bluntly. "Its either him or nobody."

When the G-man shot his partner, Jack winced as he heard the man begin his terrible, terrible screaming. It just kept going and going, that horrible wail! Jack knew that this was what they'd been trained to do if they got shot in order to waste more time and he knew it worked, but it was still annoying as hell. Being that the two men were quite fiercly patriotic to their country (and that one of them was screaming bloody murder), all the G-man would get in response was a scream from on and a glare from the other.

He said into it. He then turned and said. "If you dont stop that fake scream I will shoot you again." He said and then leaned against the wall and wait for the items he had requested.
