The Neo-classical building is made from grey stone and Guards dressed in gold braid, bright drill union holding their polished SA80s patrol the perimeter. From inside come the cheery music of a brass band playing cheerful carols
Sir Hugh Kangforth-Brooke has been appointed Principal Ambassador to the Embassy and will be hosting a speech on free trade and European Solidarity.
Servants are busy erecting an enormous Christmas tree and perched on step ladders they place the holly on various portaits of generals and staesman. The Stutue of Oliver Cromwell is polished once last time and in the enourmous kitchens Wildboar, Turkeys, geese and Peacocks turn on spits. Puddings are pulled from giant moulds while vats of mulled wine ans mead bubble and spices are added.
The Embassy has just opened and the banquet is about to begin. Sir Hugh is about to start the proceedings and the warm glow of candles light the rooms and oak panelling. Yet there is a strange feeling in the air. This is Sir Hugh's first Embassy dinner I hope it all goes to plan.
