:An Undisclosed Location in the Hinterlands of Avadria:
A large tower stood in the middle of a barren landscape, devoid of almost all vegetation with the exception of scrub that dotted the ground. At the base of the tower a large spherical object was surrounded by numerous technicians and scientists who were rapidly scratching down notes onto their clipboards.
At a bunker far off from the site various government officials began to gather to witness the testing of their newest weapon. Inside the bunker a large TV, flanked by two large, thick, glass screens, relayed images from a camera placed in front of the tower. As well a large table was arranged in the back bottles of champagne cooled in buckets of ice awaiting the celebration that was soon to happen.
"Mister Kurgen, I'm pleased that you could make it here today..." Chancellor Faulkner said, shaking the hand of the Military Affairs Minister after leading him into the bunker.
"Alexander, I wouldn't miss this for the world" The Minister said with a laugh. He took a seat on one of the couches present in the room and watched the television. "Professor Gallihari certainly is working hard" Kurgen said as he watched the technicians and scientists run their last checks.
"Well he wants everything to go just right" A new arrival to the bunker said. It was the Field Marshal for the Northern Forces, Erwin Troda, the most respected military official, second only to August Kurgen himself. "How are you August?" He asked, taking a seat next to the Minister.
"Fine..." Kurgen replied, rather annoyed with the informality of the younger Field Marshal. He never liked Troda off the battlefield, although he respected him nonetheless. The young Field Marshal came off as being too brash and wild off the field and it didn't sit well with Kurgen's personality.
"Glad to here it" Troda replied, crossing a boot over his knee and resting his arms on the back of the couch. "
"Gallihari and his team should be finishing up shortly..." The Chancellor said, checking his watch. Then almost on cue a young man in a dust covered lab coat approached the camera. The man grinned and gave the thumbs up sign before signaling for the others to pull out.
The technicians and scientists withdrew from the view of the camera; however one remained, manning a small station at the base of the tower. After the man threw several switches, the sphere began to rise towards the top and the man left the site.
Several minutes later a large helicopter landed outside of the bunker, the eleven men inside disembarked and entered the bunker. The leader of the group, the young, dark-haired man that had appeared on the camera, wore the same grin as they entered. "It’s ready!" He said triumphantly before motioning for the others to stand. The man grabbed a small control box that was in the room and produced a small, silver, key from his coat's breast pocket.
"I hope this won't disappoint, Gallihari" Field Marshal Troda said with a laugh as he looked over at the excited Professor.
"I assure you it will be something to remember" Gallihari responded before unlocking the box, revealing two key holes and a case that enclosed the button. Gallihari produced another silver key; the number '2' engraved on it, and inserted it into the left hole. With a twist the case released and Gallihari flipped it up, revealing a small button.
"Gentlemen, please put your goggles on" He said before slipping his own pair on. The others follow suite and Gallihari withdrew his final key, the one marked with the number '3.' He took a deep breath and inserted it and then turned the key. A small, green, light above the button came to life, signaling that the weapon was armed. Now all he had to do was release the bomb.
“Three… Two…” Gallihari quietly said, counting down. The room was silent in anticipation of the impending blast. “One…” He said, his tounge darting across his lips. Then Gallihari pressed the button.
There was a pause, the sound of complete silence which seemed to last forever, and then it happened. A blinding flash swept across the horizon the world seemed completely silent. However it was broken by a tremendous roar and then the sight of a massive cloud rising into the atmosphere.
The men in the bunker sat in awe as they watched the hauntingly beautiful mushroom cloud rise up towards the heavens. Their silence was soon broken by sound of a cork popping, followed by the sound of champagne flowing out of an open bottle. The scientists and technician’s broke out cheering as their worked proved to be an outstanding success. The officials applauded, still amazed by what they had seen.
Several of the other bottles were opened and the drink was served to all in the room. Gallihari raised his glass into the air to propose a toast.
“Today we have ushered in a new age for Avadria. In this moment we have brought our Empire immense strength. In this moment we have bolstered our pride and struck fear into the hearts of our enemies. Avadria will now commence it’s rise to the center stage and soon claim its rightful place in the world!” Gallihari said, his voice filled with pride. “For the Avadria! For the Empire!” He shouted, raising his glass higher with each shout.
”For the Empire!” The others in the room enthusiastically replied, raising their glasses higher as well. Then they drank to their success.
