OOC: For more information, see this (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=382037) thread and read the news page on the Lindimese website, as listed in my signature.

The thread where this takes place does pick up, and on the second page there is more of the military actions described. Also, it should be noted that the Aviosian missile strikes were not unprovoked, but that this news flash is biased in that aspect.

IC NEWS FLASH: Lindim was dissolved into chaos today when two, separate but equally tragic, events occured. First, groups of Marines attacked the Blue House at Prime Minister Fuego's re-election. All across Lindim, Marines have begun fighting each toehr and siding with what appears to be a Socialist rebellion against the Capitalizt Fuego. It should be noted, however, that Fuego was overwhelming elected by the people and that this rebllion is purely rebel elements within the military.

Equally disturbing were the missile strikes from Avios. Dozens of missiles struck Lindimese factories and military bases, and there were reports of missiles also striking commercial center, including shopping malls, killing untold numbers of civilians. Firefighters scrambled to combat these threats, but the Marine battles often interfered with the effective deployment of firetrucks.

It should be noted that about sixty missiles were launched, but half of them were shot down by the Kammor ABM system provided by Schultaria Prime.

This is Puniu Drofe, and we will be providing the international community with regular updates.

The Citadel

"Sir, intelligence has received word that the nation of Lindim is, as they state, dissolving into chaos.'" The nameless aide placed a paper before the emperor during his statement, and stood at attention when complete.

The Emperor shifted his small, rectangular glasses further down his nose, as he skimmed the abstract of the paper. "Interesting, I suppose. But we've never dealt with this nation... what's it called... oh yes, Lindim. Never heard of it. What can you tell me?"

The aide understood this would happen, the Emperor more than likely did know, but his staff was expected to be reasonably well briefed on anything they might bring before him so that the Emperor did not run around attempting to contact countless people to get an answer. Accordingly, the Ministry of Intelligence officer in the Citadel had given a small briefing to this aide. "Well, sir, the nation of Lindim appears to be a modern, democratic nation. Economically powerful..."

The Emperor merely nodded as he leaned back in his leather chair, absorbing the whole of the information that he already knew. It was good to see an intelligent staff here at the Citadel, too often in his previous experiences, the aides were yes-men who knew nothing. Granted, he still had the problem of yes-men, but now they at least knew something, even if it was for the mere minutes o fhis briefing. "Thank you, you've been most helpful. Please inform Mrs. Carpenter that I'd like to speak to Mr. Valovich and Mr. Blair."

"Of course, your majesty."

**

Ivan Valovich and Daniel Blair both hailed from the extreme opposite ends of the Commonwealth, Valovich from the predominantly Russian northwest, and Blair from the predominantly British southeast. The two got along amicably as their political philosphies were remarkably similar for being the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence, respectively. Valovich was by far the senior, in his fifties with silverish-white hair. His beaming smile and portly physique lent an air of dignified commonality, he fit in well with the common people - which was important in his younger days as Minister of the Interior - but now in his old-age, his sagacity and experience served him well as the chief diplomat of the Commonwealth. He believed firmly in multinational approaches to problems, and was often criticized for being too conciliatory in treaty negotiations. However, both the Prime Minister and the Emperor respected the man who had served the government for nearly thirty years.

Daniel Blair, on the other hand, was a young and up-coming member of the government. A student of business and military history at the presigious Commonwealth University, he had been selected merely as a compromise candidate, but had become strikingly popular among the people with his handsome looks, and popular among the intelligensia for his firm understanding of his portfolio. He too, was rather well liked then by both the PM and the Emperor.

But now they sat in the Emperor's office discussing plans to try and intervene or do something in Lindim.

"What can we get out of this in return, gentlemen?" the Emperor stated.

Blair let his elder counter-part answer first, "Well, Mikhail, I would say that we fundamentally have three outcomes. If we do nothing, I doubt this country would even notice us. If we help the eventual winning party, we gain gratitude and thanks that I'm sure we could cash in on at a later date. If we help the eventual losers, we gain the anger and bitterness of the new ruling government. The problem would be in identifying the winners and losers, without even trying to consider who is right and who is wrong. Although we'd be up against the Lindim military, their elected leader, elected by the people, is the one being overthrown. It is not as if the people are applying Locken logic when the government is hated by the people, they voted this bloody PM back into office. I would have to say, Mikhail, that you support the PM Fuego, I think her name is, despite what outcomes may come."

"Sir," Blair quickly picked up, "I would have to caution you against this action only because their military is in shambles - not technologically, but in terms of loyalty. We could align ourselves with someone deceiving us into thinking they support Fuego, and then we end up bombing Fuego's forces. Assuming they don't capture and/or kill her before we can even intervene. They're military is probably as equally capable as ours. I've seen they boast a capable navy, as do we. But I don't know anything about their land, air, or space capabilities. I mean, our Royal Starfleet Marines - while crack troopers in combat - have not executed an actual spacedrop into combat. My concern, sir, is that we could be entering a long, drawn-out conflict that would put a significant strain on the armed forces of the Commonwealth. And given our recent committment to the Excelsior space station project, can we really afford to dump billions of Azas into an actual conflict. I can guaruntee you that our forces are more than ready, and dare I say, itching for a fight, but this could be a fight we win while we lose our nation. I urge caution."

Emperor Mikhail Barin pondered the advice given to him by Valovich and Blair. He tended to agree with Valovich, something needed to be done. Despite the Commonwealth's turning more and more to socialism, the fact that a government elected by the majority of the population was being overthrown in a bloody coup, amidst a war... something needed to be done. "Ivan, try and get in touch with someone in Fuego's government who is actually representing Fuego and not the bloody insurrectionists, and inform them that should they request assitance, we are willing to give... and I stress this... limited aid. Daniel, I want you to prep the nearest carrier group for immediate redeployment to Lindim. To do this, work with Ivan to secure some sort of basing rights in government controlled property in Lindim. Furthermore, prepare our Royal Starfleet Marines for space drop into enemy territory. But they are not to move until we receive word from Lindim, and then myself authorizing such a movement."

"Should I ready an army division or two to prepare for action in Lindim?" Blair asked.

"Hmm, I suppose you can mobilize two divisions. One armor, one mechanized infantry for now. Start readying a peacekeeping division for deployment to Lindim, just make sure you keep the division readying to go to Nueve Italia ready to go to Nueve Italia on moment's notice. Are we understood, gentlemen?"

"Yes, your majesty."

Attn: Any surviving member of the government of Prime Minister Fuego

The Commonwealth of Azazia is ready to offer limited military assistance to your nation to support you in quelling this insurrection, should you request it. As I am sure your time is brief, I will keep this short, but our forces would include a carrier battle group, an armor division, a mechanized infantry division, some space troops performing orbital insertion, and then later peacekeepers if needed.

I hope this communication finds you well, and leaves you safe.

Ivan Valovich
Minister of Foreign Affairs

OOC: The space troops are future tech, so that would be a no-go, but sure, I'm fine with the others. You could work with Mattvia on a rescue mission in the other thread.

PUBLIC TELEGRAM

This is the Minister of Commerce, Tirrew. I fear the PM has been taken hostage. Any help in a rescue would be much appreciated. I suggest you contact Sand General Nuhmi, he seems to be in charge of the military operations. Sorry I cannot talk longer, but the situation I am in does not afford that. I must go now. Thank you.
