Brief History:
Founded in 1411 by the knight Golias Dyrke as an absolute monarchy. Over the next century, Malkyer expanded its territory through a series of wars with neighboring petty kingdoms. The experience brought by the wars soon turned Mlkayer into the leading military power in the region. It was not, and still isn’t uncommon for the government to hire out military units for service with foreign armies. Through it all, the ruling Dyrkes maintained absolute rule over the people.
This ended in 1711, three hundred years after the founding, when the citizenry of the capital city Alemain revolted against the Monarchy. The Throne was official dissolved two years later after the battle of the Faru Pass, when the Monarchist army was utterly defeated. This is due in large part to the fact that after the initial revolt, the king executed or deposed most military leaders, fearing a conspiracy. The soldiers who survived the Purge went over to the rebels, and it was there that the death warrant for the monarchy was signed.
After fifty years of corrupt democracy, the Monarchy was officially restored after two years of fighting in the Second Civil War. The greatest soldier of the war, Layman Saarad, was placed on the throne after marrying Gwen d’Lune, the daughter of the Republican’s leader. Able to learn from the mistakes of both monarchy and democracy, he established the constitution and government structure that are still in place today. Independence is reckoned from this time, 1766.
The rule of the Saarad family was a prosperous one for Malkyer, and peaceful. This changed, however, when King Layman II was assassinated in the Royal Palace in May 1995. Against all advice, his daughter Angela took the throne in August after a short Regency under Duke Anton Perides. Angela died in September from cancer, and her younger brother Dayan ascended the throne. As of yet, no ill has befallen him. He is young, and impatient, and is more aggressive than his predecessors.
It was during the reign of Angela that the Malkyeri reached the stars. They made several tchnological breakthroughs like the foldspace generator and the crystalline shield system, both of which are still highly classified. They have one offworld colony, the Planet Haleon IV, a planet with a population of 2 million at the edge of the space held by Eugoria IV. However, they maintain relations with Earth-bound nations, and indeed most of their dealings are with such “Modern-Tech” nations.
We can only guess as to what the future will bring.
