Military Accident in Oatmealia
Oatmealia

The farmer walked home slowly, taking his time. Twilight was descending, and he quickened his pace as he began to think of what he would have for supper. The wind was slowly getting stronger, and as the man looked to the sky he noticed that it would be storming fairly soon. He reached his home just as the first sprays of rain were falling. There was an occasional flash of lightning, then the inevitable crack of thunder soon after. He began to prepare his dinner and flipped the television to the news. Taxes had risen again, a traitor had been found and executed in the capital, and the military would be conducting exercises on the Falari Bombing Test Range, which was fairly close to the farmer's home.
"Just great." he thought to himself.
He continued watching the news until the weather came on. He was thankful the rain would last because there had been a particularily bad drought in his province lately. He finished his dinner and retired to bed. He drifted off the moment he hit the pillow.
A huge crack split the night, and the farmer immediately sat up in bed, awake. The ground rumbled. He glanced at the clock, it was a bit after midnight. He peeked out the window, and the storm was much worse. The rain was falling in a torrential downpour, and he couldn't even see his toolshed, which couldn't have been more than 40 feet away.
The ground rumbled loudly again, and the farmer stopped. He suddenly realized there had been no flash of lightning, or a thundercrack. He moved to a window at the other side of his home, and pulled the curtain back. There was a red glow in the sky overlooking town. The man felt a stab of fear gripping at his stomach. The ground shook again, and a large column of flame shot up from the middle of his village. He jumped, and grabbed his coat, flung the door open, and started his vehicle. He pressed the accelerator and the car jerked and began moving. He reached the border to town and tears began rolling down his face. Fire was engulfing the town. People were running aimlessly away, and the ground was shaking as more explosions rocked the town.
He opened the car door, and was unbuckling his seatbelt as a sudden flash blinded him. He was flung into the air, and all was dark.

*** Television Report ***
This is Channel 1 Action News, and we're here with a special report.
*A man is on screen, his dark hair disheveled, and he begins speaking quickly*.
This just in, there has been an apparent tragedy in the farming village of Falari. The devastation is widespread, and we haven't been able to get a clear idea of what happened..Hold on, we're getting a live feed from the town right now.
*Camera cuts to the town of Falari, now in flaming ruins. Dead bodies are strewn all over, and smoke veils the landscape. The rain has now fallen back to a drizzle, and military forces are running through the town, evacuating the citizens.*
Our first report of this came in at 2:30am, roughly 3 hours ago. The sun is now rising, and we can get a better look at what happened. As you can obviously see, the town has nearly been totally annihilated. We have an expert with us, and he'll give us his take on this horrible event.
*Camera cuts back to the studio, to a small, thin, man with wire-frame spectacles.*
Well, it's fairly obvious that this is not the work of one person alone. The patterns don't fit anything i've actually seen before. This doesn't seem to be a terrorist attack, either, because the damage is far too large. This actually looks like the work of a military force. It..actually looks as if the village was..bomb--
*Camera feed goes out, and is replaced with a "Technical Difficulty" screen. The feed comes back in, with a podium on screen, bearing the Presidential Seal of Oatmealia. A man with raven-black hair approaches the microphone, and he stares directly into the camera. He stands for a moment, his eyes quickly shooting to the camera technician who gives him a thumbs up. He begins to speak.*
Greetings, citizens of Oatmealia. This is President Richard Kalan speaking. As the preceding news report just informed you, there has been an accident in the village of Falari. Our intelligence agents are attempting to get to the bottom of this. At first report, we believe that a bombing mission has gone wrong. Last night, a storm obscured the vision of the pilots, who are being..debriefed as we speak. Rest assured, citizens, we will find out the reasons behind this and we will send immediate help to the afflicted town.
I am also using this opportunity to ask the international community for any aid possible. Our country is struggling and could use a bit of assistance to help get back on our feet. I fear that an event like this could have a destablizing effect on our already struggling economy.
You will be kept informed on what we know.
*The President gives the citizen's salute to the camera, and the live feed ends.*
OOC: We could boost your economy by building factories for our newly forming arms manufacturor, PAc. The benefits are this.
100% native workforce in production lines
30% native workforce in public relation/customer service
8% native workforce in management
1 week paid vaction per year for all workers
7 weeks maternity leave
$7.50 per hour minimum wage
30 sickdays per year per worker
$1,000,000 credit at the still forming PAc Storefront per year
IC: The Republic of Popova would like to offer our aid in the form of jobs to your people by forming PAc factories in your nation and an aid package of $1,000,000,000 to help you get back on you feet. We hope that you accept this offer.

Our nation is still reeling from the loss and would be glad to accept the offer. Many businesses have been destroyed by this catastrophe.
The jobs would be well recieved by the populace.
Thank you for allowing us to help you. Seven hundred of Popova's best engineers and contractors are on their way to your nation to build the nessecery factories and also help rebuild your nation when the factory building is finished.
OOC: Do you have a map of your country? Also, how many factories do you wish to build?
The Pegasus Alliance currently has 3 billion in its vaults to be spend on anything.
We would be willing to invest some in your nations economy if the money is repaid in 10-15 years, with a very small intrest rate.
If you would ever want to join PA, http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=381693.

The President of Anti-Nazis and its citizens suspect something fishy with the government. We think the president has something to do with this. We are sending over investigators as we speak to help with the search. Also, we are sending 100 million dollars to help rebuild the town of Falari.
OOC: No offense Anti-Nazis, but if you admit in public that you think the government has to do with it they won't let you in.
Anti-Nazis
18-12-2004, 16:53
ooc/That is true, but dont you think the government talk was kinda suspicous?
OOC: It might be, but still...
Oatmealia
18-12-2004, 17:07
Honorable Nation of Anti-Nazis,
Unfortunately, your suspicions are offensive and we decline your offer of aid. This massive loss of life is a horrible mistake, and any thought that the government had something to do with it is very disrespectful to the people affected.
OOC: Popova, I have a map, it's just a bit big.
Here: http://img137.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img137&image=oatmealia7pe.jpg
A moderate amount of factories, by the way, I'm not sure how many you would usually build.
Oatmealia
18-12-2004, 17:10
Honorable Nation of Camewot;
As of yet, we are not sure how to proceed. I do not want to make a deal that I could not pay back. For that reason, I think I must decline. I do not want to get a reputation as a country that owes many debts. If I need further help, your nation will be among the first I ask. The prospect of joining your Alliance is tempting as well, and I shall consider it.
Richard Kalan,
President of Oatmealia
Response:
Should the nation of Oatmealia join PA, sadly, they will have to sign a pact concerning its dictator.
However, if you sign the treaty, the money might be givven for free or for the smallest intrest rate.
OOC: The more we build, the cheaper I can sell for. How does 12 factories sound?
IC: The 24th Popovan Army of Engineers arrived via airplane at the airport in Oatmealos and looked around for a ride to the building sites. Eight of the twelve factories would be built in this city, and another four in Alzor (Is that right?). These ten engineers were only the first to arrive, and it was their job to scout out good spots for the factories.

**Channel 1 Action News, Breaking Story**
*The camera centers on a podium bearing the seal of Oatmealia's Department of Public Relations. A short, chubby man walks up, and stares into the camera, and starts speaking*
I have a short statement to make, and then i'll take your questions.
The Nation of Oatmealia is in deep mourning for the citizens of Falari. This horrible mishap has been, and will continue to be a troubling ordeal. We are in the process of giving aid to the afflicted town, and we have placed the town and all the surrounding area in a military quarantine. Only designated citizens and contractors will be allowed in and out of the city until further notice. I'll take your questions now.
Sir, have you learned anything about the cause of the disaster?
As the President mentioned, we were debriefing the pilots. They took off from the Falari bombing range earlier in the morning, and apparently the storm obscured their vision and pushed them off-course. They bombed the town, thinking it was still the bombing range.
How many casualties are there?
At the time, we believe there have been at least two hundred deaths and many more injuries. The town is demolished, and we are in the process of searching the debris for more victims.
There was a supposed rumor that the town was purposely bombed, what is the official stance on that?
As the President said, and I will re-state, this was an accident. That is all that I will say on the subject.
Excuse me, sir. The Falari bombing range was recently built only 3 years ago. Why was a bombing range built so close to a community?
You'll have to take that up with the Department of War, i'm not sure.
*The man tilts his head, and presses his ear, as if he's listening to a small headphone.*
That's all the time I have right now, we will keep you informed on what we know.
*The broadcast fades out and is replaced by the Seal of Oatmealia.*

Honorable Nation of Popova,
We would be very pleased with your offer of twelve factories to be built.
We understand 8 will be built in our capital and 4 will be erected in Alzor. We look forward to recieving your contractors. Our unemployment rate is still high and the needed jobs would provide a good boost to our economy.

"Who did it?!" the agent bellowed as he clubbed the pilot in the face. "Who ordered this?!"
The pilot grinned and spit, sending blood and a tooth flying. "You'll never know. Even I don't know."
The agent sighed, and produced a handgun from his coat. He pressed the barrel of the gun against the pilot's forehead. "Are you sure you don't know?" he said.
"Well, if I told you, they'd get me anyway."
The agent pistol-whipped the pilot, knocking him out.
"Inform the President that we may have a few traitors in our ranks." the Agent muttered into his microphone.
The agent walked to a small table and produced a needle. He pushed it into the pilots arm, and slapped the man until he came to.
"Anything you want to tell me?"
The pilot slurred his words, speaking with a huge, stupid smile on his face.
"Nope."
The agent sighed and spoke into his microphone. "I've gotten everything I can out of him."
"Proceed with elimination, Agent." his earpiece buzzed.
The pilot's eyes widened. The Agent put the gun right between his eyes and emptied the clip.

"Yes I do gental men, we have over heard many a discusion in our newly formed embassy, using top of the line "technology". We determined that this Duke as he calls himself is not wholly loved by the masses as he would have us believe, but beyond the normal, we discovered a high ranking official is being controled by an inside force who wants to have a little coup'de grace. And whether we can act all depends on how quickly we can get our millitary into the "Dukes" country unseen, that is if we choose to prevent this coup?"
"So general you suggest that we cause one international incident to prevent another?"
"Yes, I do. But the ultimate decicions is left to our commander and cheif."
"I understand General, you have my approval to move troops into the territory of Oatmealia without their knowalge or approval, and if you are discovered, we will deny that you acted under our authority, but you are given leeway to eleminate all possible threats to your mission with the utmost prejedice. Thomas Morrison patrolled the town of Falari, muttering to himself. He saw the widespread destruction and was trying to mentally block it all out. He shouldered his rifle, and turned down what used to be a small alley. He sat with his back against a brick wall, lit a cigarette and began to think about what he saw the night before.
The rain was pouring from the sky endlessly, thunder cracking loudly. He looked up, and the lightning illuminated the whole sky. He saw the silhouette of a bomber above him. The first bomb hit the ground a bit down the road. He began running in the opposite direction, and the town collapsed behind him in a maelstrom of fire. His screams were dwarfed by the sounds of the bombs tearing the buildings from the ground. He took cover in the basement of a nearby house, shivering.
He shook his head and looked around. He put out his cigarette, stood up, and continued walking. He was beginning to pick up in speed when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He spun around and pointed the rifle at two men who were behind him. The men were in dark suits. Both of them had large handguns pointed at his face. The soldier backed away, babbling incoherently. The soldier was thrown back by the handgun bullets and was dead before he hit the ground.
As more and more of the 24th Popovan Army of Engineers arrived in Oatmealia, the contractors went out and searched for the materials needed for all of the factories. They needed a total of six-hundred tons of steel, manufactoring equipment for each factory, and the materials to actually build the weapons. They asked for prices of these materials from the native shops.

Noble nation of Popova,
The financial aid we received from the other nations is quite enough to cover the price of the materials. They will be stored in a series of warehouses in the Capital. I'll send the addresses to your contractors immediately. We will have enough raw material stored for the weapons as well, but we buy that from an source outside the country and you may be able to find a better deal. If you are in need of more, we'll dispatch our contractors to collect it..

President Richard Kalan looked out his office window, and gazed at the Bay of Oatmealia for some time before he pushed the intercom button.
"Helena, send for the Minister of War."
Several minutes later, the Minister stumbled in, having been woken from sleep.
"Edward, the attack happened a while ago, and we know nothing about it yet. Interestingly enough, we interrogated the pilot and we found that there may be traitors within our ranks. I want to know if you know anything about this." the President said slowly.
"I..don't know anything, sir." the Minister replied.
"You know what happens to liars, Edward..and you know that I don't like liars. Now, I suggest you tell me what's going on. I want to know why that town was bombed." Richard muttered, and stared at the other man.
"So. You know. Well, I suppose it wouldn't harm. You're a very unlucky man. We're here to replace you. You cannot escape us. We are everywhere, Richard." the Minister said, discarding the formalities.
The President laughed in the man's face, and continued.
"I have known, Edward. I have known for several years, since you were passed over for my position. It just burns you that I seized this position instead of you. It was a mistake to appoint you, Edward. I gave you a chance, and you blew it." The President said mockingly, then snapped his fingers.
The minister quickly took a step back, removed a small pistol from his coat, and snapped off a shot before he was dispatched by a guard hidden in the room. The President fell back against the wall, and slid to the floor. He lightly rubbed the spot where the bullet had glanced off his armor. He ordered the guard to remove the body. He stood back up slowly, summoned his medical crew, and he sat back down in his chair, shaking his head.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Citizens of Oatmealia, this just in;
Our dear Leader, and President, Richard Kalan, has been the victim of a failed assassination attempt.. We have been informed that he was checked out by his medical team and he has been given a clean bill of health. Apparently, our very own Minister of War, Edward Deril, defected and was executed on the spot for charges of High Treason. The President was wearing body armor, and was basically unarmed by the attack. He will be making a statement on this channel soon.

*The camera centers on the now-familiar podium in the Presidential Palace. The President of Oatmealia, Richard Kalan, approaches the microphone slowly, as if he is pained by something, and slightly adjusts it so it is closer to his face. He looks into the camera with a tired appearance, and starts talking.*
"Citizens of Oatmealia. Today there was an attempt on my life. We had recieved reports that there were traitors within our ranks, but none would have guessed that our very own Minister of War was behind it. Supposedly there are more of them in our country, and I have one thing to say to them all."
The President's eyes narrow and he stares into the camera with a hateful gaze.
"You will fail in your endeavour. You will not shake the will of our populace. I have done better as a leader than many democratic nations can claim for themselves. We are not a democracy because the bureaucratic process is slow and inefficient. Take heed. I am well-informed in my own decisions, and I am here tonight to announce another decision."
The President pauses, and tilts his head and sets his jaw, and brings his anger under control. He begins speaking again once he regains his composure.
"Effective immediately, the Oatmealian Elite Guard will be placing the entire nation under alert until further notice. The traitors WILL be found. There is no escape. We are watching from everywhere. To those who harm us; you have two choices. The first is to peacefully give up and turn yourself in, and you will be properly educated on what it means to be a citizen. The second choice is to be crushed by our might. Your assassination attempt has failed miserably. I am alive and well, to your dismay. You will regret these actions. And to our great citizens, do not allow your faith to be shaken. The traitors will be found and eliminated, and we shall continue our peaceful lives."
