Ground Forces - Professional Army

Overview

Annual Military Budget: $8,587,842,397,627.75 (15% Total Budget)
Total Military Personnel: 16,750,000 (1.00% Total Population)
Total Active Military Personnel: 5,600,000
Average Military Salary: $40,000
Total Spent on Salaries: $670,000,000,000 (7.88% of Total Military Budget)
Active to Support Ratio: 1:2 (note the actual rating is closer to 1:6, however the "missing" personnel are attributed to civilian contractors and civilian administration staff)

Praetonian soldiers are trained, from the age of sixteen, for a total of seven years until they are able to move on to active duty. They sign up for terms of 16, 20 or 25 years, and enjoy not just a tax-free salary, but a raft of other benefits including plenty of leave during peacetime and a large pension and lump sum payment when they retire. Praetonian infantrymen are some of the finest in the world, although they are as a result in rather short supply - only 2,437,500 are active at any one time. The Praetonian Levis [military] is superbly equipped with cutting edge technology. This is only made possible by the limited numbers which need to be equipped.

Military Organisation

The Praetonian military is split into Levis Imperialii [Imperial Levies or Armies], Brigades and Battalions. Levis Imperialii are groupings of Brigades, and Brigades are groupings of Battalions. Most Battalions in the Imperial Guard follow a standard pattern and consist mainly of mechanised infantry as shown below:

20 Rhine Pontoon Bridge Layers

Total Troop Numbers: 24,240
Total Vehicle Numbers: 3,280

Imperial Guard Mechanised Infantry Battalion

800 Imperial Guardsmen [Infantry]
280 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

40 Gladius Infantry Support Weapons [Infantry]
20 Lazarus Anti-Tank Missile Launchers [Infantry]
20 Flame Anti-Air Missile Launchers [Infantry]

100 Mercury IFVs [Stats Coming Soon...]
20 Hoplite MBTs (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=360189)
5 Ptolemy 155mm Howitzers (these are usually grouped into Artillery Battalions and Brigades in larger formations)

The Battalion is organised into companies as follows:

10x Mechanised Infantry Company

80 Imperial Guardsmen [Infantry]
20 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

10 Mercury IFVs [Stats Coming Soon...]

2x Armoured Company

30 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

10 Hoplite MBTs (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=360189)

1x Artillery Company (Attached – when in Brigade formation these are pooled to form Artillery Battalions)

20 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

5 Ptolemy 155mm Howitzers [Stats Coming Soon...]

These standard Battalions offer a great deal of tactical and strategic flexibility. They are each equipped with anti-tank, anti-air and anti-infantry resources, and are highly mobile. These Battalions make up the majority of the Praetonian armed forces as they can complete most, if not all, roles that are required.

Imperial Guard Scout Battalion

80 Imperial Guardsmen [Infantry]
170 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

10 Gladius Infantry Support Weapons [Infantry]
2 Lazarus Anti-Tank Missile launchers [Infantry]

10 Mercury IFVs
50 Badger LSVs (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=382441)

The Battalion is organised into companies as follows:

1x Mechanised Infantry Company

80 Imperial Guardsmen [Infantry]
20 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

4 Gladius Infantry Support Weapons [Infantry]

10 Mercury IFVs

10x Mechanised Scout Company

30 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

10 Badger LSVs (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=382441)

These battalions are equipped with a substantial number of the new Badger LSVs, which can not only move quickly to scout out enemy positions, but are small enough to take cover behind buildings, walls and dense foliage, and can effective give fire upon the enemy both in an anti-infantry and anti-tank role. The battalion is also accompanied by a mechanized infantry company to provide rapid infantry support if required.

Imperial Guard Armoured Battalion

360 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

100 Hoplite MBTs (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=360189)
20 Badger LSVs (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=382441)

The Battalion is organised into companies as follows:

10x Armoured Company

30 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

10 Hoplite MBTs (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=360189)

2x Mechanised Scout Company

30 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

10 Badger LSVs (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=382441)

Pure armoured battalions are rare in the Praetonian military, but they are occasionally used in Shock Brigades to break through enemy lines in one massive armoured punch, allowing the more versatile Mechanised infantry to follow behind. They are accompanied by two companies of Badger LSVs, which are used to dart around the enemy flanks and engage concentrations of infantry.

Imperial Guard Mechanised Artillery Battalion

100 Imperial Guardsmen [Infantry]
100 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

6 Gladius Infantry Support Weapons [Infantry]
2 Lazarus Anti-Tank Missile Launchers [Infantry]
2 Flame Anti-Air Missile Launchers [Infantry]

50 Ptolemy 155mm Howitzers (these are usually grouped into Artillery Battalions and Brigades in larger formations)

The Battalion is organised into companies as follows:

10x Artillery Company (Detached – when in Brigade formation these are pooled from Mechanised Infantry Battalions and provided with 100 Imperial Guardsmen for protection)

20 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]

5 Ptolemy 155mm Howitzers [Stats Coming Soon...]

When Brigades are deployed, Ptolemy 155mm Howitzers are taken from Mechanised Infantry Battalions and placed in one centralised body. They are also then provided with 100 Imperial Guardsmen for self-defence, although these are often thrown into battle as reserves if need be.

Imperial Guard Heavy Infantry Battalion

1000 Imperial Guardsmen [Heavy Infantry]
25 Imperial Guardsmen [Artillery]

80 Gladius Infantry Support Weapons [Heavy Infantry]
40 Lazarus Anti-Tank Missile Launchers [Heavy Infantry]
20 Flame Anti-Air Missile Launchers [Heavy Infantry]

5 Towed 75mm Howitzers
5 Klaxon APC [Ammunition Bearer]
100 Klaxon APC [Troop Carrier]

The Battalion is organised into companies as follows:

10x Heavy Infantry Company

100 Imperial Guardsmen [Heavy Infantry]

10 Klaxon APC [Troop Carrier]

1x Towed Artillery Company

5 Towed 75mm Howitzers
5 Klaxon APC [Ammunition Bearer]

The Praetonian military, although largely mobilised, recognises that in a large scale conflict mobility cannot be maintained. It is therefore accepted that to equip and train the entire military for use with IFVs is not only wasteful, but also inefficient. Heavy or ‘Attrition’ infantry are heavily armoured in kevlar and ceramic inserts, and are trained to operate in a chemical environment wearing full NBC protection. They are supported by towed howitzers, which are cheaper, more stable and easier to defend than complex self-propelled guns.

Imperial Guard Flying Corp Aviation Battalion

200 Imperial Guardsmen [Vehicle Crew]
60 Imperial Guardsmen [Air Crew]
500 Imperial Guardsmen [Ground Crew]

50 Klaxon APC [Troop Carrier]
50 Tores Vedras Helicopter Transporters
50 Lupus Attack Helicopters

The Battalion is organised into companies as follows:

10x Helicopter Companies

6 Imperial Guardsmen [Air Crew]
50 Imperial Guardsmen [Ground Crew]

5 Klaxon APC [Troop Carrier]
5 Tores Vedras Helicopter Transporters
5 Lupus Attack Helicopters

At brigade level aviation battalions are attached to provide mobile anti-tank and anti-air support. The Ground Crew are also trained to use Imperial Guard Pioneers’ vehicles to level out ground for grass airfields, and are also given combat training almost equal to that of regular Imperial Guard Infantrymen.

Imperial Guard Pioneers Battalion

800 Imperial Guardsmen [Pioneers]

60 Klaxon APC Troop Carriers
50 Hospitaler General-Purpose Pioneer Vehicles
10 Rhine Pontoon Bridge Layers

The Battalion is organised into companies as follows:

10x Helicopter Companies

80 Imperial Guardsmen [Pioneers]

6 Klaxon APC [Troop Carrier]
5 Hospitaler General-Purpose Pioneer Vehicles
1 Rhine Pontoon Bridge Layers

Pioneers’ Battalions are some of the hardest troops in the Praetonian military. Trained to fight battles of defence and attrition and equip other, regular units to fight similar engagements, the requirements for entry into the Pioneers are higher than any other branch of the military aside from the Horseguards.
