Following the success of the Pelican Aircraft in a Transport role the Imperial Airforce has modified the design of the the Pelican into use as an Air Defense and Ground Attack platform.

The modification is called the Pelican Strike Platform(design name) which takes the Pelican body and modifies it from a transport and logistical aircraft to an attack aircraft.

The mission goal of the SP is for it orbit a battlefield at 200-300 miles out and use its powerful radar systems to coordinate and launch attacks against enemy strongholds and against incoming enemy aircraft using ER(extended range) missiles to keep hostiles from entering into combat range.

Currently 12 Pelicans have been modified with more modifications pending actual combat trials.

In order to make the aircraft effective in its new role the following changes have been made to the SP:

Radar/Electronics Suite: The SP Features an extensive Radar and Electronics suite surpassing the power and range of AWACS aircraft. The SP has all directional radar, capable of monitoring over 40 Radar frequencies at once. The SP also allows for direct uplinks with all Belem positioning, communications and targetting satelites and of course networking into the Belem Defense Grid(shared Radar between ships and aircraft.) The SP also has IR X Ray and LIDAR targetting systems fitted to ensure that the SP is prepared for any threat it faces

Active Defense: The first line of defense against enemy attack is the Electronics Warfare suite. Using the aircrafts powerful electronics system the SP can jam over 36 different Radar and Radio Frequencies.

Second Line Defense: 3 Widebeam Hotshot Laser CIWS. Each Laser pod can rotate 360 degrees and each laser can be supported by atleast 1 other from most attack vectors. With 1 mounted forward under the cockpit, the second mounted approx. 100 feet back on the belly and final one mounted on the top of the aircraft.
4 Steel Wall CIWS guns(two on each side.) If Hotshot fails to down the incoming missiles or aircraft, the task will fall to the sidemounted CIWS guns that will deploy outwards on pods when entering combat situations to increase there sphere of attack. When not in use they will recede back into the aircraft to make the shape more aerodynamic.

Third Line Defense: Chaff and Flares, should the other measures fail the Pelican will begin filling the sky behind it and beneath it with a cloud of chaff and flares to confuse as many missiles as possible.

Inactive Defense: Armor Plating. Should all other measures fail the SP will rely on its Thick Kevlar and metal hide to absorb as much damage as possible before being forced to land due to damages.

Payload: The SP is capable of carrying about 2,400 missiles that are approx. 20 feet long. The exact number of weapons present will of course depend on the payload and MO for that particular sortie. As of now there will most likely be certain designated Land Attack aircraft which will carry primarily Anti ground and Radar weapons. There will also be designations only for AA Aircraft which will field only AA missiles. However due to the design of the aircraft each aircraft is interchangeable between the two modes.

General Stats:

Wing Span: 500 feet
Body Lenght: 400 feet
Body Width: 100 feet
Height: 80 feet.

OOC: more coming soon.
