Dateline Sofia, Angelico–
At exactly 12 O’clock local time here in Sofia, President Alexi Tatyanov was sworn in as the sovereign and independent leader of the newly named nation of Angelico.
“The changing of the name of our great nation should be seen as a change in the direction of our government. My people, I can promise you that in your time, you shall see this country’s infrastructure and economy improve dramatically. No longer shall we be the puppet for Ottomans, Soviets, or any other foreign oppressor. Our destiny is our own, and our means of achieving our dreams shall be found in each other. No longer shall we identify as Russian, Romany, Turk. We will be Angelicans, a new nation, working together for the improvement of us all!”
The President’s rousing speech was met with thunderous applause in Liberty Square, and nervous silence in the government halls of many of Angelico’s neighbors. Political experts see such statements as almost troublingly vague–they can mean a desire for internal modernization and reform, international investment and membership in the greater regional community, or as the beginnings of potentially deadly imperialistic leanings.
Angelico’s diplomatic corps has already set to work attempting to garner international recognition by established states. This could be the beginning of a significant push towards international alliances. Ideologically, Angelico’s relatively centrist leanings seem to be an indication that significant gains can be had by those states which can gain the Angelican government’s trust.

President Alexi Tatyanov looked over yet another communique. At least he was used to the paperwork again. His years in prison seemed to be a reprieve compared to the incarceration imposed by this. The past few months, the election, had been tense. Running against a corrupt dictatorship is nerve-wracking on the best of days. Now, however, Alexi Tatyanov has the feeling that he was navigating a network of tightropes with a blindfold on. There was never enough information, never enough to make a confident prediction on where any given prediction would take him. He had to act, however. Angelico needed international support, allies who would protect and shepherd the country until the reforms necessary for modernization were made. This would come at a price at fealty to the patron state, but that was a cost that Alexi Tatyanov felt forced to make.
