Great Woody Times

GREAT WOODY CITY--When Admiral Douglass, Chief of Staff, made a request for $40 billion in new military spending to fund a new genetically-engineered soldier research program, he got more than he bargained for. The Parliament instead increased the military budget by $295 billion, to $577.3 billion per annum, in response to recent world events.

The increase included a $175 billion line item to research militarizing Evil Woody Thoughts' already existing geologic capabilities (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=375180). This attachment was slipped into the military funding bill at the last minute, and its author, Representative Whitfield, claims that finding a way to minaturize the seismic explosives currently used to initiate the formation of large islands, and use them as ICBM warheads, would serve as a more effective deterrent than nuclear weapons. It was previous government policy to use its volcanic technology for peaceful purposes only, but Whitfield stated, "In a world that is about to go straight to hell, we need better ways to deal with stray nuclear material--I think dropping a 9.0 [Richter scale] earthquake on an enemy capital is the way to do that." Representative Whitfield represents a district with several military bases, and is widely known throughout the rest of the country as a militant crackpot. However, the war brewing between AMF and the RWC lent some credibility to his claims, despite Evil Woody Thoughts' proclaimed neutrality in any conflict that arises as a result of current tensions.

Adapting current seismology technology to ICBM use, and testing of the tectonic ICBMs, is expected to take about 6 NS years at current funding. Admiral Douglass' genetic engineering initiative was slightly overfunded at $45 billion; the military received an extra $75 billion to do with as it pleases in the upcoming fiscal year. The ICBM research project will also receive an additional $190 billion per year from the Ministry of Science and Technology's budget.

When asked about the military budget increase, Admiral Douglass said, "What the hell? I asked for a $330 billion military budget, not a $577 billion one. Though with the shit hitting the fan elsewhere in the world, I can certainly see why." He indicated that he would probably use the loose $75 billion in the military budget to accelerate the tectonic ICBM research.

OOC: If you followed the link in my sig, and then followed the links in that post, you would find that we have a unique R&D history. The tectonic missile research program is simply an extension of that (cheaper to adapt this than research something new:D ), and it does not involve nuclear material. We will probably gradually replace nuclear ICBM's with tectonic ones.

I don't really know why that couldn't have been an IC question to Rep. Whitfield, but meh.

"Damn, how many cable channels does your army get? I'll have to slip in some more of these last-minute military funding riders, I see..."
