[Earth II]United Nations Preliminary Discussion

Okay, someone mentioned this (I believe it was Hogsweat) a few days ago. The topic was of a dedicated Earth II United Nations that ran itself and acted in itself separate from the main Nation-States Earth II. It certainly wouldn't be anything like it but rather a role-playing unit. It would get its own forum on our Invision Free account. So I want to know what you gentlemen think about this idea?
I do not have the resources or the time to run this as honestly running the thread itself takes up a lot of time. It would have to be an active member of Earth II and it would be run like the real United Nations, with one problem. I own New York and I am not a pro-UN guy and I am not going to be joining it so you'll need to find a new HQ for it.
The basic premise is that nations of Earth II could join it andit would be run like the real United Nations.

Aye, I've got enough to worry about other than the UN breathing down my neck.
But I'm not opposed to it. Just wouldn't join.

Ooc- We'll join, only because Curtis will use his influence to assure it, so we can dominate the UN councils and committees and thus enact the New Mississippian World Order

I would do it, but I have no relation to Earth II. It's a good idea though.
No. Pretty much because I wouldn't wanna work all day defending the UN against DA. See two posts above mine, it's too easy to accomplish!
Hrm...A UN in E2? Meh, realism makes it better. I imagine that if Russia suddenly invaded Iran again then the UN would speak up. At the moment Hogsweat is invading Russia and noone gives a fuck...

Shhh they don't need to know that...
I posted this in the Earth II thread and I'll post it here:
Layarteb, I will offer Rome as the capital of the Earth II United Nations. I'll also run it if you need anyone.

Noted.
If I do change my mind, Washington D.C. is up. As well as Los Angeles and San Diego. Hell, Panama City, Guatemala City, Bogota...
Although I'm not so sure D.C. will be the safest place for the U.N. to go, considering that it's turning into quite the warzone. Unless that's what the UN is into.

Well we'll limit it to one city submission per member and they would have to be significant in size, definitely. This way we don't have like a tiny area that can't handle the traffic and needs of the UN HQ. I'm not so sure multiple HQs is a good idea though.
By the way, the forum will be password protected to keep those not in the actual NS-Earth II UN out.
It may, though. The UN is a world body- there's no reason why the HQ should be holed in one place. Besides, if the HQ stayed in one place it may give the impression that the country is "more important" than others since that's where the UN is- if it moves around that does not happen.

San Francisco would be an excellent place for the UN HQ, at least in rotation.
Marimaia
08-12-2004, 10:25
Tokyo is also available for either a regional or permanent UN headquarters; alternatively, the Japanese Empire of Marimaia (as it is in Earth II) could build a mini-village type complex somewhere else in the Home Islands.

"Might I suggest Cape Town?"
William Fabus, governor general South Africa
So we have a few candidates:
Rome (my personal choice for the main HQ)
San Francisco
Cape Town
Tokyo
Now, all we need is a South American location, an Australian one, an Oceanian one and a Middle Eastern one (as I think the region deserves one).
I also heavily support the rotating HQ idea.

I will offer Erdenet, largest city in Western Mongolia (although small in comparison, it is one of the larger cities in the Mongolia/Kazakhstan area), as a possible Central Asian HQ - if it is viewed as too small, I will still be more than happy to set up a temporary UN HQ on request for incidences in which it is required.

Where in Slovakia though?
http://www.ifrccee.org/kepek/map/slovakia.jpg
What used to be the other part of Czechoslovakia. Split after the Cold War ended, well just before I think. It's sandwiched in eastern Europe by Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, and Ukraine.
I had meant which city. Not wanting to sound rude, but I know where it is (I'm even writing an essay on it).

For the record (and not to brag) I know where 98% of all the countries in the world are (one of those things about being a History major).

You and I both. Capitals I'm pretty good with too. I spent 3rd grade looking at atlas' rather than do multiplication tables and all that math. Kinda sad too that even though I didn't do any of that crap I still am a math whiz, except in Calculus. Then I'm a dismal failure.
You've been added Hogsweat.

So am I. Wow...I actually have a twin brother, but it seems like I've met another!
National capitals I'm not *as* good at...I know maybe 70% of them. As for Math: I got 67% in Grade 12 Advanced Math and dropped the study ever since, though I probably could have continued with it if I tried.

This is a very good idea with a UN for the Earth-II!
One question though, you do not have to be a member of the NS-UN to be a member of the Earth-II UN? Hope not.

This you'll find amusing.
Grade 9 Algebra: 75
Grade 10 Geometry: lower 90s
Grade 11 Triginometry: mid 90s
Grade 12 Pre-Calc: upper 90s
College Calculus: D
LOL!!!
I'm not bad with Algebra but I honestly just couldn't grasp it back then in 9th grade. I work in the Flooring Department at Home Depot and thus constantly having to decipher square yardage, given guesstimates, get area, and even convert from Metric sometimes. Everyone has to whip out a calculator but not I. Granted I don't get into decimals I just round, but hey what would you rather hear, I say it cost $200 and it cost $190 or I say it cost $190 and it cost $200.
Layarteb: That is impressive. I can convert simple things to metric, but not that great. Then again, if I had to work at Home Depot I'd probably have to learn it anyways, but still: impressive work.

My stance is no, since there are a few who RP in Earth II as puppets and thus would violate the official NS UN policy.

I agree with RomeW and though this is their thing I do not think that people should have to actually join the NS-UN to be a part of the Earth II UN. It will be RP strictly I mean no matrix of resolutions affecting your nation like NS does. I don't have coding for that or NS approval. But they will make resolutions that you will be bound too and you know they are going to enforce it too!

The way I see it, we'd act like the real UN...able to pass resolutions targeting specific nations, and we'd be able to take actions against nations not in the UN (i.e., we'd be able to band together against a nation that violates human rights). There would also be more leeway, with nations able to RP out of Resolutions (but the UN would come in to enforce the Resolution).

Just remember that if a nation is not part of the UN it is not bound to International Law.

Yeah, non-UN members will be unaffected, but this UN could still speak out against atrocities committed in non-UN countries, instead of just turning a blind eye as the NS UN does.

But of course. To charge us with a crime though, man I'm going to be laughing at that. Because I plan on committing a few in Venezuela with these damn rebels if they don't give up!

I propose that the first resolution would be to make rebels "fair game" for anything you throw at them. Its a nice fantasy anyway.

Well, the UN could act as an alliance that would make non-members change their ways...it'd be an abuse of power, sure, but it'd make for interesting RPing.

I would join, maybe, hold it in Toronto.
Having said that, as I stated on the earth II forum it would have to be changed slightly from real life UN
Where ever it is to be situated, I will participate.

I have decided I will not particiapte in the UN, however, may be contacted by the UN for consultation if ever the need should arise. Since I also control a large stip of land across North America should the UN need to transport equipment across this border they will probably be granted transport rights.

29 votes out of 70 Earth II candidates. 41%. You know in about another 10 - 15% we'll have more than a regular US election turnout :).
OOC: I don't know if my nation is added, but anyway, I'd like to join the Earth 2 UN. Thanks.

Since Sardinia is a Protectorate of TIoR, it doesn't have to join. And since TIoR is already in the NS UN, I might as well join the Earth II UN :P
Ooooh, have the building in TIoR. You can make a new city!
Gintonpar
14-12-2004, 18:59
The Principality of Gintonpar will join. As long as it will not affect my overseas territories and ambitions. Im not going to try and colonise the World but I am always on the lookout for new provinces. Also if I feel that the UN is innefective then I will take the law into my own hands. i would rather leave than be held back by UN restrictions on how to keep the peace and prosperity in my own territories. That said, I think that the UN could be formidable as a peacekeeping organisation. As long as the UN can act quickly against troublemakers. However I will not hesitate to protect the safety and interests of my own country. So, the Principality of Gintonpar WOULD join the UN if it was set up.
Deepest Regards,
The Principality of Gintonpar
I think a UN in Earth II would be good.
