Present Day Comatica
08-12-2004, 02:30
In a balcony perched high above the city streets of Aredeth, Emperor Lucius looked out over the mass of people cheering and going wild 400 feet below. They were all dressed in shades of cold blue: the color of the Comatic flag. The majority of them were waving little mini-flags that they had purchsed from the thousands of vendors that had set up shop along the street-side.
This was Comatica’s centennial: 100 years had this great nation survived. This was planned to be one of the largest celebrations in recent history. Almost 6 million people had turned out for this week-long celebration, and about 30,000 vendors had set up shop in hopes of pulling down a year’s worth of profits in a matter of days.
Before Lucius was a fine white rope that was strung from one pole to another across the balcony. This would trigger one of the most spectacular light shows in Comatic history. He held the hilt of his ceremonial sword tightly.
The sky darkened hastily, along with the city. No lights were left on, except for a few neon lights for effect, contributed by the pyrotechnics. Emperor Lucius stepped out onto the balcony, which was suddenly illuminated by a dozen bright , icy-blue lights. A roar erupted from the millions as they noticed him. An excessive cheering session followed, lasting in excess of 15 minutes. They would not let him speak, even when he tried to several times. Finally, the crowd relented slightly, enough for Lucius to talk.
“My dear citizens,” he began, speaking into a handheld microphone hooked up to dozens of massive amplifiers. A giant megatron screen was set up just above the balcony, capturing his every move. “In one week, we mark a magnificent milestone. One hundred years will have passed on July the 29th, and we will be part of the largest celebration Comatica has ever known.”
This was met by a cascade of cheers and shouts. Lucius stepped further out. “At 11:59 PM on the 28th, we will count down, and then set off the most spectacular fireworks show our region has ever seen. And now, I give you…Comatica!!”
A 350 foot long Comatic flag was unrolled from the bottom of the balcony, stretching all the way to the ground. The sound was deafening. The crowd stomped their feet, screeched on whistles, and did anything to make themselves heard while the national anthem blared at the highest volume possible.
All well-wishers that would like to attend may do so, and we will arrange immediate flight details.
