Blacktower

200 years ago, There was a violent revolution in Blacktower. In the city of Rome, the people went on a rampage, burning their own homes in protest. Over 10,000 people stormed the Emperers palace, overthrowing the guards and even the Praetorian Guard that had kept the city safe for so many years. They seized the Emperer and had him publicly Be-headed for supposed crimes against the people. The Royal Familiy was hunted down and befell to the same fate, all except for the youngest son Julius Perinious, who was 15 years of age at the time. He only escaped his fate due to his quick thinking Father who hid him within the palaces many Secret passageways and rooms. Even after the Castle was ransacked, many of the passeges were discovered and the family was slaughtered. Julius was the only to remain undiscovered.
These were hard times for the Blacktoweran people. Food was scarce, and the military was a tool used by the Emperer to gain influence over the country side. The Empire was much smaller then, consisting of only the southern portion of the italian peninsula, but its people were starving and mistreated by the oppresive Leader. For days The City of Rome was held by peasents and militia until finally a full Legion was able to make its way back to the City and engage the rioters. After a day of bloodshed, the Army had regained control of the Capital and the Royal Palace. It was not until he seen friendly Forces within the Castle that Julius revealed his hiding place. To his shock he was seized by the Army and hidden away. the Next day he and 15,000 Loyal citizens were deported from Blacktower and sent to the farthest reaches of the east, never to be allowed their return. Julius vowed that oneday he would return to overthrow the Blacktoweran Throne that was so forcefully taken from his family. He never learned of the outcome of the treachery. As far as he knew, the Military took control and set their general upon the throne.
Little did Julius know that this was not the case. Indeed the General was put upon the throne, but he sat for only one week until he was assasinated by a member of his Council. The people had enough. They did not want another Emperer upon the throne who would bring them hardship and cruelty, they wanted to be represented. And thus the People Senate was formed. The new Emperer would still have final control over the Empire, but the Senate had the ability to pass laws with his approval, providing a buffer for possible negative actions against the people. the Senate was elected from the population once every 4 years, and the Emperer served for life, as the title was Hereditary (passed down through family, not elected).
