Winning with 53% of the popular vote, Jorj Fariz was sworn into office today in a solemn ceremony, lacking the usual extravagance that has been characteristic of the past. After taking the oath, as administered by the Justice of the High Court, Fariz began his term as Consul with a Senate address, outlining the sweeping changes on which his platform was built.
"For nearly half a century have we had to endure the burden and incompetence of a United Nations bereft of unity, leadership, clear goals, or fulfilled pledges. For nearly half a century have we had to endure the resolutions and policies forced on us by the socialist-dominated United Nations: our economy has floundered. Let this be the case no more. As Consul, I shall immediately establish the official resignation of the Republic from that decrepit organization, and instead adopt a policy of clear moral purpose, one in which Eredron allows Her conscience to shape policy, and not politic."
"...We shall no longer compromise and tolerate oppression and tyranny. Let us henceforth be clear to all nations: for there to be peace, there must be democracy, a free and open society in which the undeniable rights of all Persons are respected.
To this end shall I do as I have said, and give to this great Republic the means to accomplish this great Purpose: by the end of my term, I pledge to have in motion a programme to expand our proud Navy by 570 ships, increase our army by a half-million active personnel, and increase by half our air forces. It is the duty of this generation to secure peace for the next."
Among his other proposals was plans to secure key alliances and negotiations, while maintaining independence and mobility in policymaking, as well as end many of the government programs blamed for the six-year economic recession in which nearly half a dozen major businesses declared bankrupty.
