[Earth II] North Germania lays its eyes upon Europe...

North Germania

With the increasing population and exponentially growing military, and growing numbers of wars, North Germania has set its attention on the nations of Denmark and Belarus.

Whether any military action will be taken or not has not yet been decided; however, there is much that Germania covets, and much power that it has.

Two units from the 3rd Black Operations Unit, Force Spectre will be sent to the war zone to conduct special operations behind enemy lines. They number a total of eight combat soldiers per unit as well as minimumal support personnel. They will be arriving within the next forty-two hours via C-17A Globemaster III with all the necessary supplies, primarily weapons, ammunition, and medical supplies.

Additionally, Layartebian Air Force units, primarily long-range stealth bombers will be available for operations as well.

At Layarteb's main naval port, four ships were preparing to sail as well as two submarines. The task force consisted of a Hurricane Class assault ship, Verrazano Class ASW destroyer, an AEGIS Class destroyer, a Ticonderoga Class cruiser, and a pair of Scythe Class attack submarines. They would be sailing to the Baltic Sea in support of operations being conducted by Layartebian Air Force bombers and Layartebian Black Ops, all in support of North Germainian operations in Belarus.

Additionally air force and naval units would be sent to Denmark to support operations and to the North Sea for back-up support.

St. Petersburg, Baltic Karelia

"Sir, you may want to take a look at this" said the secretary of Defense, Ken Karlsson.

"Hmm... Lets see... A huge military buildup in the Baltic Sea. Nothing in the Gulf of Finland as I can see, all of the military ships seems to be far more south, outside the baltic states." replied the president, General Karl Andersson.

"Yes, we have identified some of them as Layartebian, and the others seems to belong to North Germania, but we're not sure yet."

"Okay, take us to defcon three. This may be a threat to us, although we have friendly relations with Layarteb we don't have any kind of relations with North Germania. And send out the extra support to the naval coast guard. Don't let any ships enter our territorial waters in the Gulf of Finland."

"Okay, consider the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland closed, sir" replied Ken.

A smaller Battle Group left St. Petersburg in an hour. It did not leave the Gulf of Finland.

Task Force Iron had entered the Baltic Sea only eight hours ago, having had to refuel the AEGIS and Ticonderoga Class warships in the North Sea. A Germainian tanker had done the job well. Task Force Killjoy had stayed in the North Sea and was blocking off the Denmark Straights, keeping enemies out. Task Force Juno had landed in Denmark and was in place. P-7A operations had begun over the North Sea and the Denmark Straights. F-15Cs would be providing CAP while the rest of the aircraft did logistical support and attacked Belarus for North Germainia. An E-8C and an E-3C were both in the air and monitoring the situation.

On board the ILN Hurricane Class (LAS-49) something startling had come on the scope. Immediately the situation was relayed throughout the two naval task forces. One of the Scythe Class submarine, deep in the water, traveling silent at 10 knots, moving north to investigate. The captain of the LAS-49 inquired as to the range. The Baltic Karelian force was in the Gulf of Finland but well within range of the RGM-176B Tomahawk II and UGM-176B Tomahawk II anti-ship cruise missile, which had a range of 750 miles. The 800 lb. blast fragmentation, penetrating warhead of the Tomahawk II would be enough to sink most ships. The supersonic missile would be very difficult to down with sophisticated systems. If worst came to worst, the ADCAP II torpedoes would be used.

Despite friendly relations with Baltic Karelia, the deployment of their fleet immediately startled the higher-ups in the command and Task Force Iron, which monitored the situation closely.

Leutnant Schmidt, aide to Generaloberst Gerwig Boehm, raced through the confines of the Pergastan parliament. He finally reached the general's office and flung open the door,

"Herr Boehm!" he called.

Generaloberst Gerwig Boehm, head of the Imperial Army of Pergast, looked up from his desk, "What is it, Schmidt?"

"I just recieved a report from our agent in Lithuania, Herr Boehm! North Germanian forces have been massing near the capital over the last few days, their intentions are unknown"

Boehm considered the situation, "Reinforce the border. They're probably not a threat, but I'm not taking chances"

Ministry of Defence, Tunis, 2.14 AM
The telephone rang for 2 seconds before a Corporal picked it up. He listened to the message, and went to find his superior.

"Sir, 'Tall Bird 2' detects large North Germanian forces massing on the Belarusian border.", the corporal reported to Lt.Col. Granath, Duty Officer in the Cottish High Command.

"Well, don't just stand there. Get me the general, now!" The corporal ran off to the nearest telephone.

Residence of the Elected Leader, 15 minutes later

"Sir, telephone from the Ministry of Defence for you"

"I'll take it in here" The Elected Leader looked at his watch. 2.36 AM. Way too early. Especially if you've had the governors of the provinces and colonies for dinner, and just gone to bed an hour earlier.

"Yes?"

"Sir, we have satelite traffic. Large North Germanian forces are massing on the Belarusian border. It looks like they are going to annex it." general Omar Smith, CINC-STRAT (CinC Strategic Command) told the Elected Leader.

"OK. I'll get my people to draw up a note for the North Germanians so they can see that we don't like what they're doing." The Elected Leader yawned and hung up on the general.

"Alice, get Rick and Roxann up here right now. We've got a possible invasion of a neighbour of a friendly country here."

1 hour later, the following note went out to North Germania

To: North Germania
From: Cotland
Subject: Cottish unease with military buildup

The Elected Leader sends his greetings to the Emperor,
and hope for further peaceful relations between
our countries. However, Cotland has seen the military
build-up, and watches with great unease, and urge
North Germania not to proceed with the assault,
since it will come quite close to a friendly nation
of Cotland, Baltic Karelia.
He finishes with saying "Ich hoffe das der Konflikt

friedlich." (I hope that the conflict between North
Germania and Respublika Byelarus ends peacefully)

We thank you for your concern about our reaction on your military buildup. We’re pleased with your assurance that you don’t have any hostile thoughts about Baltic Karelia.

However, we ask you that you must understand that we have raised our state of alert to Defcon three. We have closed our part of the Gulf of Finland, and I’m going to send out an order to close our border in the south, towards Estonia, Pskov and Novgorod.

We’re not going to send out any military forces outside the borders of Baltic Karelia.

On board the LAS-49, inside the sensor room, everyone was on their toes. Satellite photos showed that the Baltic Karelian fleet had not budged and had actually closed off the Gulf of Finland. More recon photos showed that Baltic Karelia had sealed its borders and was still at DEFCON 3, heightened alert. The fleet in the Gulf of Finland was well within range of the RGM-176B Tomahawk II (anti-ship) missiles, well within range. The Sycthe sent to investigate the ships had come to within a few miles of the Gulf of Finland, deep and now moving at a mere 5 knots. At that speed and depth, the Scythe was quieter than the breeze. The Scythe was loaded with thirty-two ADCAP II torpedos, sixteen UGM-84G Harpoon anti-ship missiles, two UGM-176A-1 Tomahawk II missiles, four UGM-176B Tomahawk II missiles, eight UGM-176C Tomahawk II missiles, and six UGM-176D Tomahawk II missiles. The pride of the Layartebian submarine force, she was deadlier than any sub out there and when it came to snooping, the Scythe was unrelenting and horribly good!

If all hell broke loose, the Scythe could launch on the Baltic Karelian fleet in the Gulf of Finland as well as could the Hurricane in the Baltic Sea while still hitting targets inside Belarus. If the Baltic Karelian fleet decided to get ballsy, it was going to meet the full wrath of the Layartebian military presence and though it was certainly NOT a desired outcome, the navy would do anything to protect itself and its allies.

The daily brief came back on the situation with Belarus. The Baltic Karelian fleet had yet to do anything but just sit in the Gulf of Finland and the Scythe observing them noted that they were not hiding their presence. The passive detection systems of the Scythe picked up numerous active sonars and magnetic returns. Passive radar detection from the ships in the Baltic Sea could also pick up the ships and the satellite photos were just undeniable. The goal of the operation was basically to get a satellite overhead and remain overhead in an uninhibited orbit for the duration of the time but that was not very easy to establish. A complex orbit would have to be devised where the satellite manuevered up and down in its orbit to escape debris but remain static over the area. Scientists were working on it constantly.

With the force presence affirmed in Denmark, the Layartebian military task force began reconnaissance operations. A pair of F-19A Ghostriders would fly over Belarus at high altitude and subsonic speed with a sensor pack in their internal bay. The sensor pack would record enemy SAM emissions, AAA emissions, radar emissions, and any aircraft patrols. Each of them were loaded with the sensor pack, 2 AIM-9X Sidewinders, and 2 AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM missiles. They would be flying at 72,000 ft. and 600 miles per hour, fast yet subsonic so as to create absolutely no sonic boom.

[Secret Information]

The F-19 was a unique aircraft, the first in a line of stealth aircraft constructed by the Layartebian military using technology from a downed UFO. It was meant to be a replacement for the F-117A Nighthawk. The F-19 had a top ceiling of 82,000 feet and a top speed of 1,350 mph at altitude and 800 mph at sea level. It carried a single M61A2 20MM Vulcan cannon with 480 rounds, up to four air to air missiles, usually a mix of AIM-9s and AIM-120s, and up to 8,000 lb. of air to ground ordinance, usually 2,000 lb. bombs, of which it could hold four. It could also hold up to eight 1,000 lb. bombs, sixteen 500 lb. bombs, twenty-four 250 lb. bombs, six AGM-65s, four AGM-88s, four AGM-84s, or eighteen Brimstone missiles. It used bay technology from the F-22, which meant that the bay was open for such a short time span that it was not noticed by radar.

Using a complex series of RAM and technological advances gained from the downed UFO, the F-19 has a radar cross section of some 0.0009 square feet, in contrast, the F-117 has a radar cross section of 0.03 square feet and the B-2 is 0.02 square feet. Stealthier than a sea gull and actually an insect, the F-19 had performed excellently throughout the course of its service, never once being noticed on radar and never once being engaged. It only flew at night and at an altitude of usually in excess of 60,000 feet. Even though most of its missions were done supersonically, it still managed to remain hidden. IR suppression systems reduced the IR signature of the aircraft to well below the outside air thus making it impossible to spot with any IRST or FLIR.

It was equipped with an advanced 360° radar, the AN/APG-77A2, a major development on the AN/APG-77 of the F-22. Additionally, it carried a FLIR and DLIR system much like the F-117, a laser designator, and a passive radar sensor. It's jamming system was constructed well and took the bulk of the time but it was worth it. When jamming, the F-19 would give out its location, though only to the general area, but it could jam all known bands of radar. Additionally, it had an IR jamming system that was always active, enabling it to remain colder than the outside air.

With a 2,000 nautical mile combat radius, G capabilities of -3 and +6.5, the F-19 was a fine weapon. It's non-afterburning turbofan engines were the first in a very advanced line of engine designs made by the Layartebian Defense Corporation.
[End Secret Information]

The F-19As both took off from the airbase just after sunset and streaked towards the night sky at over Mach 1 as they climbed to 75,000 feet where they leveled off and slowed down to 600 mph. As they flew over the Baltic Sea towards Belarus, their sensor pack was silent, not picking up the emissions from the battlegroup as it was using passive detection systems all around. The F-19As turned southeast as they crossed over Lithuainia and began their mission. Their sensor packs were turned on and they headed straight for Minsk, the first stop along a route of eleven total. They had the fuel and the range to do the job but just in case, they had a tanker standing ready to refuel them over the Baltic Sea if necessary.

They conducted their mission high above the Belarussan terrain, picking up radar emissions, fighter patrols, SAM emissions, and AAA emissions. The mission was critical and of great importance that they complete their mission. It would be a success though. They exited Belarussan airspace and crossed back over Lithuainia for their return flight back home to the base in Denmark.

The mission results yielded signficant SAM coverage, AAA coverage, fighter patrols, and sophisticated radar systems.

OOC: Elvenford could you post what kind of SAM, AAA, fighters, and radar systems you have so that I can publish the results in the post. I don't want to invent systems for you that I don't know if you have or not. Thanks.

”Sir, we must have a meeting immediately!” said captain Konradsson.

”Why, has something happened in the Gulf?” answered the Supreme Commander.

”No, but we have used our new intelligence software. We have an interesting result.”

”Okay, in the conference room. In 10 minutes. I must have a sandwich first.” The Supreme Commander was hungry since he has been in conferences all day. Now he had to take 10 minutes off.

”Yes sir!” Konradsson walked out of the SC’s room, and began to think of what to say.

7 minutes later.

”Okay, what have you find out? Let’s hear.” The SC was the first to open the mouth in the conference room. The last piece of the sandwich was seen in his mouth.

”Well, we entered all the available data into BKIntWAP (BalticKareliaIntelligenceWarPlanner), and look what came out after 10 minutes:”

http://peter.korkala.se/bc/nggoal.gif

”The program tells us to go back to Defcon four, because the circle of crisis is don’t even near our border. BKIntWAP tells us that Northern Germania and Layarteb is after Germany and Poland. Doesn’t that sound weird?” Konradsson seemed to be a bit confused and nervous.

”Hmm… ” The SC sat in silence and looked carefully at the screen. ”Take us to Defcon four. I don’t really trust this machine, but I think that it not could be completely wrong either. Defcon four, gentlemen!” The Supreme Commander almost smiled as he said that.

“Shall we withdraw all ships from the Gulf?” asked Konradsson.

“No, of course not. They’re in our territorial waters. If anyone asks, tell’em it’s an exercise or something.” Answered the SC.

OOC: Yeah, its all good, although i'd like to confine the fighting to a few air skirmishes, a bit of urban warfare, a few open land skirmishes, and some counter-attacks, untill you reach Minsk and we crumble (Being an open city and all), thats if you do get there, by the way ;).

OOC: The blitz is gonna be pretty big.

Here's a good map of Belarus: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/commonwealth/dfnsindust-belarus.jpg

I was thinking the urban warfare could be held in the northern cities of Grodno, Lida, and Molodechno.

Other urban warfare zones could be the southern cities of Pinsk, Luninets, and Zhitkovichi.

Open land warfare I guess could be held along the borders and slightly inland, and in the open land from the minor cities to Minsk.

Note: I plan on only claiming the Western half of the nation (including Minsk, and that being the dividing point).

Sound good?

The Emperor looked at the map and the planning docket. The Minister of Intelligence was in the office as well as the Joint Chiefs. "Gentlemen, what is the situation with the Kaliningrad Oblast?"

"Sir, the situation is under control. We have established the bases of operation and we are sending out Task Force Majestic immediately."

"Very good General. I trust that the army units are ready?"

"Yes sir."

"And for air defenses?"

"We're sending along Avenger, Patriot, and SLAMRAAM units."

"Excellent."
***********************
On the coast of the Kaliningrad Oblast, a massive Layartebian landing force was offloading vehicles, equipment, supplies, and people. C-5s and C-17s were flying supplies and equipment in as well. The entire land was being temporarily used to house Task Force Majestic. The goal would be to provide additional back security for North Germainia and to provide air support if needed.

Sultan Makleev looked at the Defense System. No-one was quite sure why it turned up in one of the many unused rooms in the Edernet Sultanate Building, but that was another story.

"Lamdan!" he called.

"Yes Sultan, what is it that you wish?" said the secretary hurriedly, rushing into the room.

"What do you make of this?"

"Well, it appears that there is a crisis scenario in Europe, near a place called Belarus. Military activity looks inevitable."

"That's proposterous! We must do all that we can to help.....[reads Defense system reading carefully]...Bel-arr-ous!"

"This is in Europe, remember, we're in Mongolia. This is none of our concern."

"Don't be so insensitive, Lamdan! This nation will be destroyed by......Layer-cake.."

"Layarteb, sir." Lamdan corrected. The Sultan glared at him.

"Ah...yes...and....North Jerr-may-nee-a! What other nation could protect Belarus against these two imminent threats?"

"Not us, sir. If you haven't noticed our defense budget is 0 chinks."

"Really? Oh, sod it then."

And at that Sultan Makleev departed the Isosceles Trapezium Office and forgot all about Belarus.

IC:

At approximately 4:23 AM this morning, Operation: Grey Storm began without warning...

It started with a flurry of GPS guided rockets, 203mm, 155mm, and 175mm artillery shells. Then followed by a barrage of GPS guided missiles, launched from the Stockholm Class Missile Boats in the Baltic. All were targeting defensive positions, SAM sites, AAA sites, tanks, infantry, and artillery.

Over 1,400 tanks, and over 800,000 infantry, along with over 1,000 mobile artillery pieces then furiously stormed into Belarus, with a wrath and relentlessness similar to that of God Himself.

Travelling at an average speed of 48 MPH, the North-Western half of Belarus came under a fierce and constant attack.

Belarus resistance was strong given its size, but overall it could not hold up against the Blitzkrieg.

After 19 hours of endless fighting, North Germanian forces had entered the cities Grodno and Molodechno of North-Western Belarus.

As they progressed, the charred bodies of Belarussian soldiers and burnt shells of tanks and artillery scattered the ground, like shards from a broken glass.

-------------------------------------------------

Subsequently, thus began Operation: Northern Strike...

850 tanks and APC's, over 500 mobile artillery pieces, along with 350,000 infantry moved North from the Ukraine/Belarus
border.

Unsuspected by any nations involved, the attack was nearly perfect. Most Belarussian forces were in the North, along
the Lithuania/Belarus border, so any resistance came from small military patrols.

The cities of Pinsk, Luninets, Zhitkovichi had been entered by the forces from the South after 10 hours of fighting.

This was the Germanian Blitzkrieg. The most powerful ground assault a nation of its size could possibly launch.

No casualty statements have been made by Germania thus far; however, it is expected that Belarussian losses are well in the hundreds already...

Operations had begun. Layartebian F-19 and F-24 aircraft from both Juno and Majestic were operating inside of Belarus, striking SAM sites and AAA batteries. F-22Ns and F-14D+s were on patrol, in support of all operations. Belorussan aircraft were in the air and their SAM batteries were active. The goal for the mission was to take out the entire air defense network in the first night and then progress to the command and control while keeping the sky clear of enemy fighters, helicopters, and bombers. Most of them would probably be nailed on the ground but only time would tell.

With over a hundred Layartebian aircraft in the air at any given time, operations to support the Germanian offense were met with initial success. Carrier-based fighters were keeping the tanks and vehicles clear from attack from Belorussan aircraft and helicopters. Additionally, strikers were dropping JDAM bombs, laser guided munitions, and firing smart missiles left and right at the countless SAM and AAA targets that were blinking on everyone's RWR. Radar sites were targetted as well. A pair of B-52H Stratofortress bombers from Layarteb had come in and fired twenty AGM-86E CALCM Block III missiles a piece at six different radar sites, eleven different SAM sites, and twelve command and control sites. The missiles would ascend to 90,000 feet and descend on their target at Mach 2.0, making them very difficult to engage.

The Baltic Karelian Fleet had not done much and though it was still on the watch list, was being put aside as operations commenced. In Kaliningrad, Layarteb units remain static except for helicopters and aircraft, which were airborne to support operations. As the Germanian units reported enemy tank positions, Apache, Stalker, Cobra, and Commanche attack helicopters buzzed in with Hellfires, TOWs, and 2.75" rockets. F-111M Aardvark bombers were loaded with cluster and iron munitions, hitting road checkpoints and bridges that were non-essential to the Germanian offensive. The idea was basically to isolate Belarus into two countries and prevent reinforcements from the east from getting to the offensive operations in the west.

OOC: I think its kind of up to the defender where you get to? But ill let it go..

IC:

Many a aircraft lay burning on the ground, But many more were being launched, already prepped after the procrastination on the border, all that could flew into the sky, and began the deadly dogfights.

In the Streets of the cities, tanks rolled through, firing upon the enemy, exploding, soldiers dying, fighting.

Large amounts of troops were holed up in whatever building could take them, Civilians fleeing eastwards, Troops entering to take their place, Reinforcement, if it ever arrived, would be too late, so the troops and armanament that could, Mostly those fresh from the east following the defensive reinforcement that had gotten through (Ordered a few days before, but slow to be put in action, meaning many caught in the open by aircraft from Layarteb), entrenched itself.

There was one thing the blitzkrieg had never dealt with fully before, and that was warfare in a urban condition.

In Minsk, the messages left, the pleas for help..

Losses:
1/3 Of Defensive systems.
3,567 Soldiers
700 Artillery peices (Assorted)
1/4 Of Aircraft caught in airfields that were near the border (Rest warned)
950 Assorted Armoured Vehicles
320 Tanks.

Those losses don't sound unfair to me. They sound fine.
North Germania
09-12-2004, 01:48
OOC: Sorry about that, Elven.

The masters of Urban Warfare, the Schultzpolizeikraft (SPK), swarmed into the cities, supported by tanks and attack helicopters. Fire fights between Belarussan forces and SPK soldiers were endless.

Artillery collapsed small buildings in a strategic manner, to bury tanks and infantry in the streets with concrete and brick rubble. After any infantry or tanks were buried, SPK soldiers would rush in and ignite the open spaces in the rubble with flamethrowers, burning any still living alive.

Mortars constantly heaved their 120mm shells towards enemy positions. Machine gun and minigun nests were set up in buildings, and attack helicopters launched their rockets and missiles at any enemy units they could see. Their appearance in the sky was similar to a swarm of flies. The northern cities were quickly turning into burning wastelands.

The blitzkrieg would not stop for cities. Often enough, the King Leopard-III Heavy Tanks would simply form a tight line while firing their cannons and miniguns and simply roll through enemy strongholds at maximum speed while the Reichswehr Guards would shoot any infantry left alive.

In the fury of battle, there were several reports of groups of NGMK Guards entering houses, killing the families inside, and burning the structures to the ground [These being soldiers that were basically mercenaries with severe mental illnesses that were hired by the Germanian government to fight in extremely dangerous conditions. They are not technically considered part of the Reichswehr itself. More of a shoot-off. They follow basic orders, but operate under their own rules].

Military bases were being constructed as soon as Germanian troops occupied areas of land suitable for their construction.

(Similar to the Teutons' method of fighting -- establish defensive strongholds and use them offensively.)

Total losses thus far (inside the cities):

98 various tanks (22) and APC's (76) destroyed
45 various tanks and APC's disabled
575 infantry dead
118 infantry wounded
12 artillery losses (most are kept behind the tank and infantry lines)
19 attack helicopters downed

Total losses thus far (open land battles):

12 various tanks and APC's destroyed
3 APC's disabled
56 infantry dead
25 infantry wounded
0 artillery losses
0 helicopter losses (none mobilized in open land battles)

OOC: If these numbers aren't acceptable, let me know. The thing is, NG tanks were built to be as powerful and indestructible as possible. They're the backbone of the military, along with the infantry.

Layartebian fighters over the Belorussan terrain had a hard-deck limit of 12,000 feet. This was to help them avoid all AAA fire and most hand-held SAMs. The main sites, on the other hand, were a different story. A pair of F-15Es were already downed from an active SA-17 site overlooked by attacking aircraft. The goal was, moreorless, to neutralize the SA-20 and SA-10 sites first, which had thus far been knocked out with cruise missiles and JDAM bombs dropped from high in the sky.

Fighter patrols had doubled in the past few hours and it was unnerving. Three F-22As had gone down and two F-22Ns were reported missing. The F-14D+ Tomcats had proved excellent, their jamming and chaff systems managing to keep them all in the air still as they swatted down enemy fighters with their AIM-54D Phoenix, AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM, and AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles. F-26As had been successful with their Brimstone missiles but had suffered three losses to ground fire.

Helicopters and Harriers, on the other hand, operated low and many of them were coming back with significant damage. However, due to the experiences of other urban warfare, the pilots knew how to react in a heavy SA environment like a city. It helped them to keep all but two UH-60L Blackhawks and six AH-64D Apaches in the air. The fighting was fierce on the ground and from their altitudes, the helicopters could see it clearly.

OOC: Ill posts losses my next post, from these posts and your next posts, if you get any of that.. lol.

IC:

Ground was being lost, too fast, The Heavier defences still remaining were farther inside the country, the advantages, and planning behind them, was when a blitzkrieg began, the farther it entered, the more stretched its supply became, by the time the heavier defences near Minsk were encountered, manned by fresh troops and equipment, the power of the lightning would surely be bluntened.

The choice was made, Any Troops and vehicles that could, fall back, those that couldnt, fight, and make them pay for every inch of precious Belarussian territory.

OOC: Im basically trading land for time, and to overstretch the blitzkrieg, which is what happened in Russia, sort of, I know i cant play with as much land as that, but with your armoured vehicles being so armoured, they are bound to be slower, if you get my reasoning, again sorry for the low quality posts, but have alot of other things to do and they do their job for now :).

Soon the cities in the North would buckle under pressure from the Germanian Blitzkrieg. From there, the major assault on Minsk would be launched, after reinforcements from Keliningrad arrived.

Layartebian airstrikes were effectively annihilating ground forces, and in combination with the massive ground assaults from Germania, the main Belarussian front would not hold up much longer.

Southern Belarus...

General Stein: Reinforcements have arrived from Austria, Herr Unruh.

Feldmarshal Unruh: Very well. Leave the forces already in the Southern cities there. Shouldn't we have occupied those by now? There was hardly any resistance.

Anyway, take the reinforcements through the road around Luninets and begin the strike towards Minsk. We'll hit them from behind, while the forces in the North strike them from the front. Pinch them in, and their heaviest reinforcements shouldn't be so heavy after a few days.

That is all, General.

Continued air operations were pressing. Pilots had flown some dozen or more sorties already, in dire need of rest. Many did get a chance to rest, if only for a few hours but then were back in the sky again. F-19s and FB-22s continued to pound air defenses without mercy. B-4A Magnum bombers and B-7B Incubus bombers had flown from their homebase in Layarteb to attack most of the command targets. They too had a radar signature equal to that of the F-19, making them invisible. As they came screaming in at over 60,000 feet, their JDAM and cruise missile payloads found their marks, burrowing deep holes in countless C&C targets.

Naval fighters continued to keep the air clear as they downed MiGs and Sus left and right. The skies were ablaze with fire and smoke as naval aircraft returned to their carriers for refueling and rearming, many of them coming back barely together. Air defenses were still brutal and the enemy aircraft had finally gotten their act together. While many were still on the ground and being pummeled, a significant portion were up in the air, including A-50 AWACS aircraft, which would have to be taken down by F-24A Knightowl or F-24B Knightowl fighters using stealth as their primary weapon.

Closer to the ground, army helicopters and marine Harriers flew relentlessly. Coupled with Mairne F/A-18Ds and F/A-18Fs, they dropped a near countless number of ordinance on enemy positions, many taking ground fire.

Over Kaliningrad, an E-8C J/STARS was providing accurate and up-to-the-minute information on enemy ground movements. So far it looked as if the Belorussan forces would not be attacking either Lithuania or Kaliningrad.

The Blitzkrieg from the South pushed deep into enemy territory.

At one point, the 7th Panzer Korps was fighting a ground battle while Layartebian aircraft were fighting in the skies directly above them.

Panzer Kapitän Bargeld loaded a shell into the cannon of his King Leopard-II MBT. He heard an enemy tank shell hit the top armor of his tank, bounce off, land in front of the tank and explode.

Bargeld: Scheiße!!! Too close!

With the advanced targeting systems of Germanian tanks, it allowed for the primary gunner to line up laser-guided crosshairs on an enemy object, and then fire.

He then pointed the cannon at the enemy tank which had just fired at him, launched off the 144.2mm shell, and watched it strike an enemy T-90 directly between the turret and main body of the tank.

A red mushroom cloud erupted, and the turret flew into the air.

As Panzer Kapitän Jenssen was moving in to support Bargeld, in his double-cannoned King Leopard-III Heavy Tank, he watched as the T-90 exploded.

A T-72 rolled up forward from behind a hill. He smiled.

He fired the right cannon, watched the 152.5mm shell strike the left side of the T-72, and right when the enemy tank heaved to the left from the force of the blast, he fired the left cannon, hitting the right side of the T-72 and sending it into fiery pieces.

As soon as he began to move forward, the flaming wreckage of an enemy plane struck the ground in front of him.

Kapitän Jenssen: Scheiße!! Too close!

The Panzer Korps moved on, and stumbled upon a Belarussian Shilka firing off AA rounds at Layartebian aircraft.

Kapitän Bargeld: Message to Layarteb aircraft: Watch Shilka in coordinates 42.Bravo.9.7.Y.28...

He fired a shell into the treads and watched the Shilka collapse on its right side. He fired another shell and turned the Shilka into ball of flame.

Bargeld: Message to Layarteb aircraft: See that!?

They pressed on...

It has come to our attention that Kaliningrad is in chaos. While we do not doubt your military capabilities, we are concerned it will compromise our operations in Belarus.

As you know, nearly 1/4 of the country is under Germanian occupation. We have established 10 military bases, 2 of which are "launch counter-assault from here if we get screwed" kind. You know, the ones equipped with six 400kt nuclear cruise missiles.

Realizing now that we have nuclear weapons in range of our forces in Belarus, Lithuania, and yours in Kaliningrad, may we rest assured that this uprising will be quelled? We'd prefer those nuclear weapons remain in our hands.

Or do you request back-up?

Southern Belarus...

The Blitzkrieg from the South had pushed Northeast, and was now only 135 miles outside of Minsk. All resistance had been crushed. The Blitzkrieg had stopped, and they were only waiting on the forces of the North to be reinforced before they performed a full artillery barrage of Minsk.

Over 1 million soldiers and over 2,500 tanks would storm the capital.

Northern Belarus...

The Blitzkrieg in the North was still fighting resistance, but ground was still being gained at an incredible rate. They were currently 323 miles outside of Minsk. Reinforcements launched from Lithuania were racing to support them.

Over 350 artillery pieces, 230 tanks, and an additional 3,000 soldiers were on their way.

200 F/B-22's based from the carriers in the Baltic Sea had been launched, and were watching over the Germanian ground forces.

Intelligence was expecting an attack from the East, if there was going to be any attack. Thus, a large number of B-52's, B-2A's, and B-1B's based in Denmark were ready to be launched if any attack occured.

Germanian forces would surround Minsk and offer them an honorable surrender. If it was declined, then Minsk would be turned into a city of fire...

After reports heavy fighting in Belarus had come to an end with the Germanian occupation of a large part of the nation, mobilisations were widespread in the Union. T80 tanks rolled out of factories and freshly made AK74's were distributed to the troops. Tu160's and Mig29's sat dormant in giant hangars while the tanks and troops rolled forwards over the Russian tundra towards Belarus.
Mobilisations
2,300 T80 MBT's
1,200 T95 MBT's
1,300 T84 MBT's
3,000 BMP4's

450,000 Red Army Infantry

80 Tu 160 Blackjacks
40 Mig 29's

The situation was growing difficult. Kaliningrad had become a varitable diaster and things were being controlled haphazardly. However, in North Belarus, things were a little better. Germanian forces had made like lightning and were closing in on Minsk. Pockets of resistance still remained behind the Germanian lines but swift reactions from helicopters and aircraft were taking out each pocket as they came about. Near Minsk, the fighting was brutal. Layarteb had already lost at least a dozen various aircraft and two brand new F-22As were downed by an active SA-20 site, which lately met the business end of a AGM-88D HARM Block VI, launched from a F/A-18C Hornet at a distance of some 50 miles.

Helicopters, Harriers, Strike Eagles, Mantas, and powerful F-111Ms pounded positions in and around Minsk ranging from C&C to air defense to armored defenses. Throughout the time, Raptors and Tomcats provided top cover while Typhoons and Hornets slaughtered their way around with HARM missiles, Maverick missiles, rockets, and bombs.
*******************************************************
However, things weren't just isolated. The static satellite overhead had picked up movement coming from the east towards the west. The were coming from USSR controlled territory on the border of Belarus. The significant, sizeable force was hard to miss on the scan. It appeared as if they would be counter attacking positions in Belarus. However, still in USSR territory they could not be fired up, just yet. However, once they crossed the border, cluster-munition Tomahawks and air operations would be sent to slaughter them.

As spy satellites over Belarus were watching, they saw the massive troop build-up coming from USSR territory, and the Information-Funktioniert Korps was notified...

In response, 135 F-111's based in Copenhagen, armed with the cluster-bomb Tomahawks similar to those used by Layarteb, were being prepared to launch.

In addition, 45 B-52 Stratofortress Heavy Bombers were prepped and armed with the same cluster-bomb Tomahawks.

All would be supported by 200 F/B-22's based from carriers in the Baltic Sea.

If the USSR attempted a counter-assault against the forces in Belarus, then Germania would be forced to launch Operation: Steel Rain.

To deal with the infantry threat, 38 modified B-2's [equipped with advanced stealth systems] each armed with 4 of Germania's deadly 1,500 pound Thermite bombs were on stand-by, if the cluster-bomb Tomahawks failed. Though unlikely.

In addition to the 200 F/B-22's in the Baltic, an additional 350 modified MiG-33's and 400 modified F/B-22's were on standby in the Reichslüft Airforce Base in Salzburg.

The Germanian Feldmarshals [Feldmarshal Fourth Class Hass and Feldmarshal Fourth Class Khan] in charge of the Belarus operations were not so stupid as to take their focus away from Belarus, attack USSR troops from the ground, and become spread-out. As powerful as the Panzer-Wehr Korps were, they weren't invincible.

The attack hinged on one thing: The USSR to launch a strike against Germanian and Layartebian forces in Belarus.

Fighting was still heavy, but not heavy enough, Eastern Belarus would soon be under threat, and unknown to most, the Premier dispatched a small message to the enemy

"Cease fighting with current borders"

He hoped they would understand enough.

But in a base, in East Belarus, a general, fanatical for his homeland, pressed the button, the silo doors opened, a small missile began to protrude itself from the silo, the roar of its engines initiating, and it burst off, into the sky.

In West Belarus, the sky was clear, aside from the planes, and one lone streak, flying over, it began to descend, but it was not meant to reach the ground, it detonated, far above the earth, its mushroom type cloud engulfing the sky, and its deadly, although small, amount of radiation began to shower down.

The General, Lutinsky, dispatched his own message.

Aboard the Hurricane, the CIC slammed with alarms. "Sir, we have a missile launch!" The radar operator screamed into his microphone. "Launch Belarus destination unknown." The missile gained altitude rapidly and then, over Western Belarus, the missile detonated, at some 80,000 feet. "Missile detonation. 80,000 feet." The radar operator returned.

The captain looked down at the screen, still trying to catch his breath. "That was too close. It's obvious that our RIM-161 Standards will be used here. If any missile enters a trajectory that makes it head for anywhere outside of Belarus, including anything Layartebian or Germanian, shoot it down. Understood?"

"Yes sir."

"I'll notify command."
********************************************************
The captain immediately recieved a reply from the Admiral of the Navy. The message read, "Destroy future missiles. Engage missile launch site with Tomahawk sorties. Nuclear weapons are not authorized." The captain smiled and immediately sent the orders to the Tomahawk II station.

F-19As on patrol were immediately dispatched to the missile launch site, along with F/A-18Cs, FB-22Bs, and F-22As. The combined armada would not only sweep the area of air defenses and fighters but also bomb the hell out of the site with GBU-35 1,000 lb. and GBU-39 250 lb. JDAM bombs.

Coordinates were entered and five RGM-176C Tomahawk II missiles and two RGM-176D Tomahawk II missiles rocketed out of the Hurricane's VLS containers. They streaked upwards to 90,000 feet where they traveled at Mach 1.2 towards the target, using their GPS to fine tune the flight plan. The RGM-176Cs continued and dropped 90° onto the target, attaining a terminal velocity of Mach 2.0, smashing into the site.

The RGM-176Ds, on the other hand, dropped as well but at an altitude of 5,000 feet, they burst open and spread 400 BLU-97/B Combined Effect Bomblets a piece, showering the target with eight hundred small explosions.

We thank you for your offer of assistance but at this time we do not need any assistance nor could we look favorably upon having a foreign country have military assets in our land. However we are nevertheless dissapointed that you refused our help when the situation in Kaningrad appears to be so turbulent. Nevertheless we accept your refusal, we do however hope that North Germania wishes to retain our help in the campaign, especially with the impending intervention of Hogsweat, we feel that our assistance could be invaluable in countering the significant threat posed by the Peoples Air Force.

We await the answer of North Germania and are now ready to commit the 25000 of the infantry that we had earmarked for intervention in Kaningrad, they will arrive fully supported logistically along with 40 RAH-66 Comanche attack helicopters and 150 modern MBTs (Merkava and Abrams variants). A flight of eight B-52s were sent immediately to Minsk. Each of them were loaded with 51x 500-lb. Phosphorus bombs, meant to turn Minsk into burnt, scorched rubble. They were over the North Sea when the target was presented and that was Minsk. They were being put on patrol in case of USSR interdiction but, for the time being, they would have to strike Minsk. The main targets were the city center, the main governmental HQ, and two C&C sites. Each of the targets would get showered by one bombload. The other four bombers would pray on the non-military sector, mostly the industrial. Phosphorus bombs were brutal. They opened up at 100' and dropped super hot Phosphorus below, hot enough to melt and fuse steel upon contact. They burned at 1,652°F or 900°C.

F-22As and F-14D+s would provide CAP for the bombers as F/A-18Cs and F-26As continued their combat air support roles, striking air defense sites and ground units. F-15Es and A-10As also descended on Minsk. All-in-all, there were close to one hundred Layartebian aircraft descending on Minsk all at once, with enough of them swatting down enemy fighters to make any radar operator sick to his/her stomach.

Excellent. Our troops are being flown from our bases in Colorado at this very moment. Our earliest airborne troops should be fit for action in 3 days at the most. Our heavy equipment will be sent in with the supply aircraft. Expect the bulk of the force to be ready for action in 2 weeks. They will be under the overall command of General O'Rourke, however, Lieutenant General the Lord Roxley is leading the 2000 men of the 25th Air Assault Brigade and should be in action in 3 days.

Airborne Contingent (ready for action in 3 days):
2000 Infantry
1400 Logistic Personnel
100 Bradley IFV's
40 RAH-66 Comanches
200 M113 APCs

Ground Based Contingent (ready for action in 2 weeks):
18000 Infantry
12000 Logistic Personnel
250 Bradley IFV's
300 M1A2 Abrams MBTs
75 Merkava IV MBTs
100 Sabra MBTs
175 M113A2 APC's
20 Mi-35 Hinds
30 M270 MLRS
15 M6 Linebackers
15 Avengers
35 Patriot ADS (PAC-3)
100 LAV Ambulances
500 Five Ton Supply trucks

The Air Force contingent that we have already mentioned will be able to deploy for action in 5 days if North Germanian airbases are used but will only be in action after 3 weeks if this is not permmitted. We will construct our own air bases in the area and vacate our aircraft to there when our bases are up and running if you give us permission to deploy immediately at North Germanian air bases are used.

All of our troops have full NBC protection but obviously may be vulnerable if not given enough warning as they will not wear the suits when not in an area considered safe or when in action in irradiated areas.

We give our best wishes for the coming conflict.

Supported by 50 F/B-22's based from carriers in the Baltic, the Raptors would also be striking any air-defense sites.

As the bombs fell, they burst at 150 feet, and Thermite fire rained down on Minsk. The skies over Minsk turned a blue/purple color as the Thermite fell.

Casualties and destruction were not calculated; however, the bombs were dropped without discrimination...

Camp Sfax, Tunisia

As the troops ran out on the tarmac in full combat gear, XM8s on their shoulder, a helicopter landed. Out stepped Major General Horatio Hawking, commanding officer "Task Force Theta". He had been in a meeting in the Ministry of Defence in Tunis just half an hour ago, where the Elected Leader himself had issued the orders, giving him overall command of the 22nd Infantry and 12th Armour, code-named Task Force Theta. He was to fly to Belarus and fight under North Germanian command with the soldiers and supply corp, a total of 15 000 men. As the men boarded the C-130J transports for the long flight, the Leopard 2 tanks and Fuchs 2 IFVs were loaded onto C-141 Starlifters and C-5 Galaxys.

"Sir, the colonels are over here" a young 2nd lieutenant said, while she saluted "they are waiting for you sir." The general returned the salute, and walked over to the colonels in command of the brigades, looking at the men while he walked, trying to assess the morale. It seemed pretty high.

"Sir, Colonel Amir Calladh, commanding 12th Armoured." The Colonels saluted the general.

"Colonel Les Walker, commanding the 22nd Infantry" the other officer said. He had a British accent. He must be from the Falklands, general Hawking thought to himself.

"Good. At ease gentlemen. The situation is as follows: Germanian and Layartebian forces have been attacked by Belarussan nuclear weapons. Parliament has ordered us to go to Belarus and assist our Germanian friends. The orders are as follows: Fire at anything wearing Belarussan uniforms, if they are carrying weapons. Otherwise, take them prisoners. Geneva conventions in effect, unless told othervise." - the general rose his hands to the colonels protests - "I know, I know, Cotland hasn't signed the Geneva conventions, but it don't hurt trying to be a bit friendly. After all, we are going to resume trade with those people after we're done killing their men."

Both men said in unison "Yes sir!", and they walked to their respective planes for the long journey to Germanian Lithuania.

The ESPK Assassination Korps group were flying at 8,000 feet over Eastern Belarus. They would be air-dropped out of the NH-90 Transport Helicopter equipped with radar-jamming capabilities at 3:27 AM.

Their target: General Mostovich, the man responsible for launching the nuke on Germanian forces. Intelligence Ops in Northern Belarus had acquired where he lived, the protection around his house, and exactly where to find him inside the house.

He lived in the outskirts of the small village of Postovy, in North-Western Belarus.

The Ops jumped out of the C-17 in total darkness, all equipped with night vision and G-36C suppressed assault rifles.

The group of 20 soldiers landed some 1.3 miles outside of General Mostovich's house. They began to advance through the wilderness in total silence.

After 25 minutes, the house was in sight. Hiding in the woods outside of his house, Major Künick spotted 6 Belarussan guards in front of the house and a mobile SAM site truck.

The group split into two units. The first, under command of Major Künick was to kill all guards, destroy the truck, and enter the house in the front.

The second group, under command of Major Jurgen was to assess the defenses in the back of the house, kill any and all guards, use C2 explosives to blow a hole in the house, and enter there.

Major Jurgen, on earpiece radio to Major Künick reported 8 guards in the back and a .50 cal machine gun perched in the top story window.

Künick: Begin operation.

Six ESPK Assassins each targetted a Belarussan soldier, and fired simultaneously. After the guards fell, four other Ops rushed to the truck. Two shot the gunner and the driver, while the other two planted C2 underneath the truck. The other 6 rushed to the front of the house, and waited by the front door.

At the same time, 8 ESPK Assassins silently killed the 8 Belarussan soldiers in the back, the gunner on the top floor, and planted C2.

Künick: Detonate C2 now.

With simultaneous blasts, the truck exploded and a hole was opened in the back of the house. The ESPK Ops stormed inside and encountered a brief firefight with 14 soldiers inside the house.

The ops regrouped inside the house, kicked open the cellar door, and stepped back. A volley of assault rifle fire hit the wall where they were standing. Two ops set grenades beside the door and took cover.

As a number of Belarussan soldiers ran out of the basement, the grenades exploded, killing 6 and wounding 2. ESPK Op Kästel reached around the corner and into the cellar, and fired off 2 rounds at the general. Picked up the shells he fired, and placed them on the general's chest.

It was the ESPK trademark -- two bullets to the eyes, the shells of the bullets on the body of the target. The sides of the shells were marked in large letters with only "N.G." on them.

Upstairs, they could hear people walking. They ran up and found the general's wife.

Again, two bullets to the eyes. Behind his dead wife, they saw his two children.

Major Künick: Make it quick.

ESPK Op Jens Kästel, who had shot the wife and general, nodded. He then wrote a note in Belarussan saying, "Greetings and Love From North Germania..." and let it drop to the floor.

ESPK Op Kästel bent down, pulled off his right glove, and touched the wife's face. He then walked slowly over to the children and patted the eldest on the head, smearing blood in her blonde hair. He then stared at her for a moment.

After nearly half a minute, he spoke in Belarussan, "This was necessary, my dear. Your father used a nuclear weapon on my friends. Six of my friends in the Schultzpolizei are dead because of it. You know what the Schultzpolizei is, yes?"

She responded slowly, "Yes, I know the name."

"Then you should know these names as well:

Private Hans Urbacker
Major Gunter Kleiner
Private Fourth Class Heinrich Hartstein
Colonel Klaus Hitzig
Private Tomas Schwab
and Private Dietrich Jenssen

He was silent for a few moments, and only stared at her. The only features of his face that could be seen were his piercing blue eyes. They rest were covered by a cloth face mask and a helmet.

"The radiation also killed my younger & only brother, my father who was a tank commander, and my mother who was a high-ranking intelligence officer. They're all dead now, thanks to your father.

If you are to blame someone, blame him. Not me."

He then quickly removed his USP Expert pistol, aimed at the girl's younger brother, and fired two rounds into his eyes.

"My name is--"

He was interrupted by another Op telling him to speak no names. He did so anyway.

"My name is Jens Kästel. And yours? Tell me, or you'll die too."

She paused for a moment, trembling with tears dripping down her face, and then spoke, "Natalie Mostovich."

"Goodbye, Natalie. Best of luck in life without your father, mother, or brother...I know I will need it as much as you."

He then exited the room.

The group rushed away from the house and back to the helicopter. It would stay to the North, and fly over Lithuanian airspace to avoid any AAA or SAM site fire.

They returned to base in Germanian-occupied Belarus. Their mission was more than 100% successful. They had killed their target, his son and his wife, 32 soldiers, and brought back with them 2 high-ranking soldiers with information on resistance in Eastern Belarus.

RE: Troop Deployment

We have landed our troops at your airfields in Germanian Lithuania and are readying a base for the main contingent of troops and the air force planes to use. Until the main contingent and their respective logistical counterparts arrives, we will stay at Camp Hedley (the name for the camp we are starting to construct). As soon as the rest of our forces begin to arrive we shall move out on to front line duties.

I am ordered to tell you that the main contribution of Gintonpar will likely be from our airforce. We see that you're airforce is not as dominant on the battlefield as you're tank and infantry arms, whereas we are sending 50 Baz 2000 primary air superiority fighters to control the skies and will be sending many various ground attack aircraft as well as our pride and joy, 5 Hyland-Nikolaas EB-15 "Arkbird" Strategic Bombers, these are the largest bombers in the world at the moment and we shall use them to devastating effect in support of your cause. We will fight well.

Best Wishes

Its not the scale or casualties caused by the bomb that has called for our intervention. It is the fact that if one nuclear bomb, no matter how small, is detonated, then the entire international community must respond to crush the nation that is using it, otherwise what is to prevent them using it again? The next time could be a dirty bomb detonated on one of OUR cities, or against one of OUR formations. We are not responding to the damage caused by the bomb but to the fact that someone in your military detonated one, and even if he is a rogue character and does not represent your military or government, what happens the next time a supposedly rogue general gets an itchy trigger finger? THAT is what we are reacting to.

Lord Roxley was startled from his reverie by a familiar droning in the air. The last time he had heard it was when he was waiting for relief in the freezing cold with his para's, in the famous Winter Campaign of three years ago that had made his name. It had been cold then, damn cold, and his Para's were clinging on to their positions waiting for the final assault by the enemy, when they had heard this same droning. He knew it was a Galaxy supply aircraft, or rather a fleet of them, and that would be bringing supplies and reinforcements to the hastily constructed Camp Hedley. The last time he had heard the noise, a Galaxy had landed on their makeshift airstrip just behind their embattled front lines, disgorging fresh troops, tanks, and ammunition, but, best of all, a hot meal. This time they were arriving with the neccesities to complete Camp Hedley, which would eventually be able to accomodate around 100 aircraft of all types, as well as being a base of operations for the entire Gintonpar military. He also knew that the next flight after this would bring his C.O, General O'Rourke, and he planned to meet him and then leave for the front lines with his brigade. It would be a hard fight, he knew that from the losses that had been inflicted on the North Germanian forces by their Belarusian enemies. God help them if Hogsweatian troops entered the fray, then they would have a real fight on their hands. For now though he got back to work. He still needed to organise the engineers for the mammoth building task they had ahead of them, and wasnt it time to report back to GCHQ in Colorado?

We have a very distinguishable and uncopyable friend or foe radar profile so radar wise you will know which aircraft belong to us. Also our planes normally sport a pennant with our countries markings coming from the aileron of the plane. As well as this we have decided there is little need for camouflage what with the radar systems present today and the speed of our aircraft, we have dispensed with camoflauge and thus all of our planes are a deep blue colour and are easily distinguishable by the pennant as well as the friend of foe systems that we operate on our aircraft recognition radar systems. There will be no problems recognising our aircraft. You could also now move your aircraft to other theatres of war as we will be able to handle much of the air support and fighter escort duties now.

Do not order us Layarteb. We shall choose our own ground. We intend to use our fighters to cover the base areas of our combined armies and use our bombers/fighterbombers to seek and destroy targets of importance e.g. rail stations, communications centres etc.

We came here not under your invitation but under North Germania's, however our commander in the region makes his own decisions and we will not be brushed aside so you can claim the plaudits for this campaign. We will fight wherever we judge the battleline needs strengthening. You know fine well that there is little risk of friendly fire with our radar recognition systems and our visible indicating marks. However we realise that you have been in the area longer and so we have taken on board your advice and we will use our out and out fighters to cover the rear areas.

Lieutenant General, the Layartebian Air Force has thus far maintained a static and precise command over the battlefield and have adapted well. if you wish to go head first into the fighting you will be slaughtered. The risk of friendly fire is not low, especially not if the number of aircraft in the battlefield significantly increased. Escort duties are some of the most dangerous as enemy aircraft have been using passive detection systems to engage us before we even get into the combat area. There are still significant numbers of enemy aircraft throughout the country, both in and behind the fighting. Your visible marks have little affect on us. Many of the air kills have been beyond visual range, through identification through AWACS. Sixty percent of all of the losses of enemy fighters has been made at ranges in excess of twelve miles by AIM-120 missiles. If we cannot decipher a distinct IFF frequency for your aircraft, they will come up as the same classification as enemy fighters. At that point, we will have no mercy and engage to keep our fighters in the air.

Additionally, we have aircraft operating that cannot be detected by radar and thus have a significant increase in risk of freindly fire, especially in high quantity situtations.

Therein we invite you to help but wish that you stay out of our way...

OOC: Wouldn't you be a little irritated if I say dropped just a "clean" nuke on some of your troops?

Besides, I could've done a LOT worse. I could've activated every single nuclear I.C.B.M. silo in North Germania, pulled my troops out and turned Belarus into a shiny land of glass.

Look at it this way, a few bombs dropped on Minsk, and the general responsible, his wife, and son are dead.

I'd say that was pretty fair. 4,500 of my troops dead, 10,000 with radiation poisoning.

Besides, you know my troops are all over Western Belarus.

As soon as the transports had landed at Osipovichi, the Cottish soldiers disembarked the planes and assembled in company formations, awaiting orders from their COs. As the battalions (5 per brigade) assembled, orders were given for them to board their Fuchs IFVs and HMMWVs and proceed to the front lines, where they would fight alongside the Germanians and gain honor to themselves, their brigade and to Cotland.

The 22nd Infantry Brigade were fully assembled after 3 hours, then the men and vehicles began to move on to the front. The 12th Armoured followed 2,5 hours later. The last forces out were the logistics personell, who would rearm, refuel, and generally just back the fighting units up.

The Germanian Panzerwehr Korps's surrounding Minsk, known to them as "The City of Flames", due to the Thermite and Phosphorous bomb strikes performed on it by Layarteb and North Germania. The city had not yet stopped burning...

Großpanzer Kapitän Volker was watching all around him for any enemy units. He spotted the Fuchs IFV's and Humvee's. He would have almost confused them for Germanian units - except for the Humvee's. Germania never used them.

Volker nearly issued a strike command before he saw the Cottish flags.

He turned his King Leopard-II-M around and began to roll towards the group. Three Panther tanks followed him.

The tanks stopped directly in their path, and exited the tank. He approached the lead Fuchs IFV.

Volker: We are waiting for a command to begin our assault on the city. Unless you are operating under your own orders, I'm afraid all we're mainly doing at this point is waiting. Occasionally, we come under attack, but it's usually hit-and-run and causes little, if any, damage.

Of course, mortars are fired at us nearly non-stop. Occasional sniper attacks. But that's the extent of regular strikes against us.

If you want in on some immediate action, there's a group of about 15 203mm mobile artillery piece commanders really pissed off cause a sniper killed some of their friends. They're not technically supposed to, but they're about to bombard the Southern portion of the city for a while, and try to kill that sniper.

We have a number of snipers with us, but they paid them off so they could take out some anger on the enemy instead of our troops.

Feel free to do whatever you want with them if you'd like.

Welcome to Belarus.

Major Hoqall, CO, 4th battalion, 22nd Infantry Brigade, saw the Germanian officer step out of the lead tank coming towards him, and stepped out of his own Hummvee. He wakled over to the Germanian, saluted, and offered him a cigar.

Hoqall: Well, we are technically under Germanian command, but I guess that a company could move in immediatelly after the 203s stop shooting and mop the place up. I'll order Echo company to move to the southern part of the city. The rest of the brigade will wait here for the order to attack. Our CO is in the Germanian HQ, co-ordinating our movements with you. We've been told to follow and support your unit once the order comes to move out.

He saluted the Germanian, walked back to his Humvee and picked up the radio.

Hoqall: Delta Echo 6 (CO, Echo company, 4th battalion), this is Delta 6, over.
Delta Echo 6: Delta 6, Delta Echo 6, go ahead.
Hoqall: Echo, I've got orders for you. Move to map grid Foxtrot 6 and stand by for action. Once the Artie's done, you move in no more then 2 kliks, take out any surviving resistance and hold position. Do you copy, over.
Delta Echo 6: Roger that 6, move in 2 kliks once artie stops, neutralize any resistance and hold. Will do sir. Over.
Hoqall: Good man. Delta 6 out.

In the rear, 23 Fuchs IFVs and 4 Hummvee's moved out towards the southern part of Minsk.

The ground to air fire over Minsk severely dropped since the incendiary bombardments. The main threat were still MANPAD SAMs but there were significantly less places to hide. Helicopters continued to operate at 4,000 feet, keeping their jammers on and their flares ready. Harriers remained up at 6,000 feet to 10,000 feet, also heavy on the flares, dropping their GBU-16/B Paveway II and firing their AGM-65E Maverick missiles into a target whenever it was necessary. Thunderbolts continued to harrass the supply lines of enemy troops, using their 2.75" rockets, AGM-65G Mavericks, and MK-82 Slick bombs to take out vehicles and troops, along with their 30MM GAU-8/A Avenger cannons. Falcons and Strike Eagles also joined in the fight, from above 15,000 feet, using their laser-guided ordinance to hit enemy tanks and vehicles. Raptors, Tomcats, Hornets, Eagles, and Knightowls continued to dominate the skies. Most of the enemy aircraft were destroyed, many on the ground by Manta bombers and Strike Eagles, using GPS and laser-guided bombs on them.

But Layarteb had lost aircraft as well. They had, thus far, lost a total of eighty-four aircraft to enemy action, mostly ground fire, and a total of sixty-four due to accidents or malfunctions. The enemy was good and well trained, certainly more than they were expecting and that was learned the hard-way. MANPADs accounted for most of the downed aircraft, usually over the cities, where urban warfare raged on.

Super Hornets had moved on though. They left their bombing runs and began reconnaissance, looking for more missile sites and providing BDA. Thus far they had not found any more missiles sites.

General O'Rourke paced round the Ops room at Camp Hedley. He had let Roxley get on with leading his troops to the front, best place for a loose cannon like him. O'Rourke's main job in this campaign would be to organise air support, rather than commit his troops to the attack, though he did have one or two armoured operations in mind. He would not throw away the lives of his men but he expected casualties. Now that Camp Hedley was fully operational he was planning a preliminary fighter bomber attack on the supply lines between Mahilyow and Minsk. If the North Germanian command approved he would launch 25 F-15I Ra'am and 25 Su-39 "Frogfoot" planes against the roads linking the two cities. They would be able to look after themselves he thought.

(later the next day)
"Squadron Leader to all planes, target sighted, attack pattern"
The pilots replied with one voice
"Roger that", and swooped low out of the clouds, engines screaming fear and exhilaration, resonating as if from a hundred thousand throats in unison. They were heading for a column of armoured units and supply trucks that seemed to leap towards them as they sped towards the ground. The column had obviously noted them and several missiles streaked in fiery bolts towards them while the inccessant chatter of small arms and AA guns mingled in the air with the roar of the engines. He saw two aircraft to his left break off from the attack formation, smoke pouring from their fuselages, while to his right a fighter simply detonated in mid air. The multitude of weapons being fired at his plane were making it vibrate with several impacts but he held a steady course. Hold for a few seconds he thought to himself, then we can get out of here. He had been in action before, but nothing like this, this was hell. War was hell. Finally he felt satisfied with his position and he released his rockets and pulled the trigger for his machine gun, he saw the detonations of his rockets and the flicker of his chaingun as it strafed along the length of the road. He risked a look to the left and saw his comrades doing the same, all with a look of terror on their faces that he guessed he had. The road was now a charnel house, a vision of hell, of twisted vehicles and broken bodies, he gave the order, and the men broke off. Heading for home.

Our losses:
7 F-15I Ra'am destroyed
5 Su-39 "Frogfoot" destroyed
2 of each severely damaged, as in will take several days to repair.

The nation of Gintonpar rejoices at the surrender of Belarus and promises to swiftly repatriate the small amount of prisoners we have taken during our small tenure in the vicinity. The 25th Air Assault brigade took 31 prisoners in an action outside Minsk and suffered 127 casualties, including 48 deaths, during its ground based operations. In addition to the aerial casualties we have already publicised, this is the final death toll for Gintonpar forces throughout the campaign. The number may increase however, in the aftermath of the conflict.

Now however, the thoughts of Gintonpar turn to the construction of military radar listening posts in Belarus. And although many of our gallant troops are heading for home this very evening, some must stay behind to start the construction of the posts, as must some to keep the peace. However, 25th Air Assault Brigade has done its job, the battle sector it covered will now be covered by the 3rd Battalion, Royal Colorado Rifles. The 25th Air Assault Brigade is heading for home. Another job well done. As long as the High Command approves, promotion could well be on the cards for Lord Roxley.

A message to our gallant allies: We have all made sacrifices in this campaign, and although our nation and the nation of Cotland suffered the least, we still feel the pain of our loss. However our greatest condolences go out to the nations of North Germania and Layarteb, who put their countrymens lives on the line to fight against the evils of socialism and the tyranny of the East that stalks towards our lands at this moment in time. We would fight a thousand wars like this if it was to preserve our freedom. Let us be thankful now though for the victory we have gained. And let us mourn the dead of our countries with true ceremony. I propose a national day of mourning for all of our losses.

The resistance in Eastern Belarus was something they had to approach carefully. Thankfully, no Cottish soldier had been killed in action... yet. However, 7 soldiers had been injured by mortar shrapnel when they waited for the go-ahead for the final push to Minsk. The one that never happened.

"Send the following message to Germanian HQ: Recieved surrender transmission STOP Will hold current position STOP Awaiting orders STOP.

Send my congratulations and condolences to the Germanians, Layartebians and Gintonparians. ."

Current casualties:

7 soldiers from 22nd Infantry injured

1 Fuchs 2 damaged, but not beyond repair

Aircraft continued to fly and monitor the situation but they were significantly less active. Word of surrender had passed to them and that was what they wanted to here. As the time went on, they would be flying support missions against those little pockets of resistance that were sure to develop. Regardless, the situation in Kaliningrad was still fragile and they needed to be on their toes.

Großfeldmarshals Hass and Kahn lead the parade into Minsk, in an open-top officer's car, followed by two other officer's cars behind them, each with a fourth class general. While much of the city had been destroyed, it was not in total ruins.

800 Germanian soldiers and 45 various tanks marched into the city in a single column.

Two lead tanks on either end of the column flew two huge North Germanian flags.

Behind them, two more tanks carried the flag of Layarteb.

Further behind, the flags of Cotland and Gintonpar were flown by Germanian tanks.

Finally, the invasion of Belarus was over.

Aircraft overflew the parade and conducted acrobatic manuevers. The war was over. Granted the country was in ruins, the victory had been had. Layarteb had lost quite a few aircraft but had not, in any way, granted this war as a phyrric victory. All was done and thus the focus on Kaliningrad could be sought.

OOC: Ok, your new thread is all pretty and nice, but you havnt annexed anything, as its not RP'ed, so i would kindly like you to make that thread void, the key part of the surrender, when it was issued, was that current borders will be used, which means Minsk is Belarussian, Now, if you'd actually like to RP properly a peace settlement, then get back to me on it, instead of going off on some wierd hyper-time travel trip.
