Lost Felons

Introduction:

Welcome to our completely out of character guide to the Lost Felons, the nomadic pirates who steal, smuggle and cheat to make a living. In this guide I will be hoping to explain the important information you may need to know about how these people work, how theyare organised, how they came to be and how to actually roleplay with the nation itself.

This concept is something designed for my space nation interests, allowing me to get practice in a field I normally shy from, especially given the way some people like to roleplay in space. I'm hoping to get more into the whole idea of space battles and the whole area of creating technology.

Of course, I'm more of a conceptual player in Nationstates, I prefer roleplaying the concept and the storyline then actually going out of my way to win. Whats more I can be quite harsh against myself and others when it comes to what I want out of an roleplay. Afterall, I'm not about to start numberwanking with this nation.

The actions of this nation are not aimed at anyone and they aren't designed to weaken any faction on purpose. If I am going to attack you then the chances are that you will already know it out of character as you would have asked to be attacked or you will accept that I want to do something with you and have agreed to it.

Basically this is more of a story thing which will hopefully give people a bad guy to fight and give me a story to tell.

Concept and Background:

The "Lost Felons" are not a nation as such, as they don't have any obvious borders or territory that anyone knows of. This is because they are in fact made up of various groups of pirates, criminals, smugglers and mercenaries who exist in the future in the far outskirts of space where the law isn't active and the security is lower.

They aren't an organised people, they are often made up of the criminals of various nations from around space. A 'Lost Felon' could be anyone and anything so long as it is capable of pulling it's weight in getting the loot. However there is one obvious difference between a 'Lost Felon' and any other scum of the universe. They people know about the Tir Tairngire Nebula and what lies in the region of space it occupies.

The Tir Tairngire Nebula is basically a huge thick nebula on the edge of known space made up of various gases and materials which make it hard to navigate and scan... on the outside most of it is pretty useless for space use but on the inside there are more valuable materials which can be gathered.

However, various forces, both pirate and... otherwise make such journeys hazardous and often suicidal. The 'Lost Felons' have learnt to respect it and travel through it with relative safety and have set up various trading posts which allow them to swap goods and form some kind of indepence by swapping for things they need.

Smugglers illegally bring goods to the Nebula which are vital for some, food is a common need for some though others have produced working hydoponics which allow them to sustain themselves. Other goods are physically stolen through piracy.

Overall a certain amount of companionship is built between 'Lost Felons' though alot of them will screw one another over if they have the chance.

Spaceships used by the Felons are designed to be fast, small so they can pick their fights. Sometimes they are more heavily built up, other times they are entirely about the speed as the smugglers need to move quickly.

However, what they all have incommon is the Hyperspace drives they employ to get around. These drives are short ranged but they can make multiple jumps, allowing them to jump forward a couple light years, change course, and jump again in relatively short periods of time. Whats more it's hard to follow this method and allows them to escape without being followed the majority of the time.

Cyberware is common for among the Lost Felons; replacing their organs with cybernetic replacements which work better, or augmenting their systems with technology to improve themselves. Most pilots have a datajack which allows them to connect directly into the ships systems thought a Direct Neural Interface which allows for excellent control of their light ships.
