What is FFBASIC?
FFBASIC is basically a circle and a light bulb. The circle indicates the range of the seeker-head on the missile, and when it acquires a target lock, it sends a signal to the plane that turns on the light bulb. In the case of the ARGAAM, the seeker-head will also send out an IFF signal, and if the return comes up as friendly, the light will not turn on. The ATA-4 does not have this feature, so a Heat Damper Tube is placed over the exhaust of the engine. While this does not render Mark-IV’s completely invisible to IR, it does reduce the signature somewhat so that friendly missiles will not lock on to friendly craft. Enemy heatseekers will have more difficulty locking onto a Mark IV than with comparable craft not possessing the Heat Damper, but the craft are not “invisible” to IR scans and not stealthy in the slightest.
