The HAF BattleGroup Liberation has begun the 'pacification' of Crete in order to protect Hrstrovokian shipping lanes using the Aegean Sea. Crete poses a dangerous threat to our continued economic growth, as it could possible base terrorists or nations indifferent to our needs, who would attempt to blockade Hrstrovokia, starving and depriving us of much need resources. We cannot allow this to happen.

Crete shall be annexed and administered by the GSA [Global Strategic Assets] Kommand until finally it is integrated into the Soviet State of Hrstrovokia as the 9th province. Any resistance encountered shall be swiftly obliterated.

The first wave of CH-53s approached the island of Crete, and a few of the Marines onboard, dangling perilously over the side, managed to take some breath-taking shots of the crystal clear Mediterranean below.

"Weapons check!" cried the Staff Sergeant over the din of the Blades and Engines. The Squad began to check inserted magazines, count grenades and secure helmets and body armour. "This zone may or may not be hot, so be prepared and watch out! Our mission is to establish a safe landing zone for the second wave, and then push into the city of Hania." he said, one eye on his men and the other on his MP5N.

The CH-53 swept low over the coast and swung over to a clear patch of farmland. “We are go, go, go!” and the squad poured out and moved forward. They were prepared for anything ....

The Landing Zone was buzzing with activity, as CH-53s dashed in and out, unloading more Men and Material. Soldiers manned Machine Gun and Mortar positions, ever watchful for the awaited counter-attack, as F-14s flew over-head conducting CAP missions.

A group of islanders had gathered about 50 metres away from the Landing Zone, and seemed vexed and distressed by the prescene of the Soldiers. They begin chanting and shouting, as more and more appeared. They were armed with pitchforks and scythes, some with shotguns.

"Sir, we need to disarm these people and take them into custody" reported one NCO to his Major. "Approach the group, but be ready, they look hostile" said the Major.

The squad moved toward the mob of islanders, now swelled in their ranks by the arrival of atleast 100 other people. "Lay down your weapons, this is the Hrstrovokian Armed Forces, you are now in our custody." shouted the NCO as he raised his M4 to waist level.

Somehow, the islanders misinterpreted this move, and a shotgun blasted at the NCO, who flew backwards like a ragdoll attached to a string. The squad medic rushed over, but the wounds were fatal. A molotov cocktail sailed through the air as the remaining soldiers ducked for cover.

"This is getting out of hand, return fire now! Wipe these bastards out!" cried a private who then let his M249 rip open the those islanders at the front. The entire squad began firing and chucking grenades. Islanders were cut down in a hail of lead.

When all was said and done, around 200 islanders were dead, 71 injured, around 25 of those fatally. The Medic walked through the mess of broken bodies. There were arms and legs blasted off, the smell of burning human flesh, the pathetic whimperings of the dying. Something grabbed at his ankle, and the Medic panicked, high on adrenaline, pumped 5 rounds into the ground from his 9mm off before he realised who it was. There was a child, only 6 or 7 years old, clutching his chest, breathing heavily, his lungs punctured. "What have we done?"

[OOC: This rp is open to anyone who would like to roleplay the following factions -

1- Local islanders living on Crete, who may rebel against the invasion and attempt to ward it off, fighting a guerilla war.
2- The Crete government, who may repel the invasion with their army. If you'd like to be this faction, then in the interests of fairness, I'll start again.
3 - Another power, who may attempt to defend Crete, or, if you get your claim in now, annex Crete. In the case of roleplaying this faction, I'd prefer if you were an Earth III resident.

These arent so much rules as guidelines, whatever you'd like is fine with me :) I'd like to say that CRETE IS NOT MINE .... atleast not yet. Until somebody responds, I'll just ramble on about murdering innocent civilians etc etc.

Official Statement To The International Community Regarding Hrstrovokia's Invasion of Crete

We, the government and people of The Greifan Empire stand in opposition to the recent unprovoked and malitious attack on the free and sovereign people of Crete by the imperialist government of Hrstrovokia. We shall not sit by idely and watch as this totalitarian state strips the people of this small and defenseless nation of their freedom and forces them into bolshevist bondage. We encourage all those nations loving freedom and justice to join us in rescuing Crete from annexation. The Greifan Empire hereby gives the government of Hrstrovokia twenty-four hours to begin withdrawing its forces from their operations against Crete. Though we do not believe that this nation will change its currently blood thirsty course of actions, we shall in the name of civilized international relations allow them time to see the error of their ways. If the government of Hrstrovokia fails to end all operations against Crete and begin withdrawing its forces at the end of this period, we shall have no choice but to declare war against said nation, and bring the full force of our military to bear upon Hrstrovokia. May God be with us all.

Pah. Dont make us laugh. The Greifan Empire does not have the resources to wage total war against the Soviet State of Hrstrovokia, so unless you wish to see our tanks roll across your borders, our bombers smash your cities mercilessly from above and the Hrstrovokian flag hoisted high over the remains of your nation, to stay there forever, you will renounce your hollow threats immediately. Crete is ours. Stand aside or face annhilation.

Decleration of War Against Hrstrovokia

Having recently received the inconlent Hrstrovokian response to our demands, we feel we have no choice but to declare war upon the nation in question. Our forces are being mobilized as we speak. May God have mercy on you, for we shall exercise none.

The border between Hrstrovokia and Presgreif remains eerily silent. Though the two nations are officially at war, there has been no action on the frontier, no shells crashing into cities, no airplanes rocketing overhead, no tanks storming ahead of the advance, with troops not far behind.

In Hrstrovokia, the people are glad of this. It's almost New Year's eve, and the last thing they want, after the military crackdown in Beograd which left thousands dead, is another battle. As the nation expands into Libya, 300,000 troops are posted to Crete, where resistance is scattered and isolated. They will possibly take part in an invasion of Egypt or remain as reinforcements to operations in Libya.

The tiny island that the Imperium was willing to risk the fate of millions for has been all but conquered. Now the HAF will turn it's attentions to the remaining flashpoints - Corfu, Libya and Thrace.
