Soviet State of Hrstrovokia - Peoples Information Network
Thousands of demonstrators converged on the Belgrade Fortress, residence of President & General Secretary Sean Matthews, to protest over the Secretariats decision to make English the official language of Hrstrovokia.
From far and wide, people ventured from across the vast Soviet State to express their anger over the decision which will see the English language replace Romanian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Hungarian, Croatian, Bosnian, Macedonian and Albanian as the approved spoken word of Hrstrovokia.
Before, Hrstrovokia was a multi-lingual state, acknowledging and appreciating the great differences that it included. Hrstrovokia formed in 2007 following the fall of the European Union, a desire for collective security and mutual economic survival it's primary reasons for existence in the midst of upheaval and chaos.
But now, it seems Hrstrovokia, at least the current administration of Hrstrovokia, is attempting to wield an umbrella-national identity to unite the divergent factions, similar to the idea of Britain amongst the English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish people.
It is estimated that 25,000 thronged the streets of Belgrade in protest over the "Act of Unity" passed without opposition. Many were infuriated, deeply concerned by the attempt of President & General Secretary Sean Matthews to restructure the nations that comprise Hrstrovokia in his own fashion.
"I'm sick of this, day by day the few freedoms we have are under threat, little by little they are eroded. There will come a day when we have nothing left. This latest act has proven to the people of Hrstrovokia that unless we fight now, our very identities will be taken from us.,” said one Student demonstrator, who declined to give us her name, to avoid reprisal by the BISS [Bureau of Intelligence and State Security]
"The truth is, Matthews is a Dictator of the highest order. Nobody in Hrstrovokia has any more illusions about this. None of us speak English as our native tongue, and it shouldn’t be forced upon as, thought in our schools and such, while our own languages are neglected. If they take this from us, then what have we left?" replied another demonstrator, obviously keen to express his dissent.
Since Matthews came to power, civil rights have marginally improved, while political freedoms have plummeted. Spending on defense has jumped to 37%, while there is in fact no money being spent on the nations healthcare system. Prisons have sprung up across the state, holding those who disagree in any way at all with the government. They are labeled "unpatriotic bastards, destined to betray our land to the imperialists, capitalists and fascists."
Surveillance conducted by the state has become quite alarming. Camera's are on every street corner, public transport is bugged, informants are everywhere. "When you look in the mirror in this rotten nation, the mirror looks back,” said one old man outside the Belgrade Fortress.
It is estimated an entire Infantry Division was present to ward off any brave notions amongst the crowd. The military presence was not only visible, it was vocal and forceful. Carrying Riot Shields and Electric Shocksticks, the army was well prepared for any scenario, yet the demonstration was kept peaceful, and was almost mocking in it's tone to those who sought to protect Matthews.
Matthews it seems, has ignited a powder keg of nationalism in the region, and it now could possibly tear Hrstrovokia apart as the differing nationalities attempt to regain their identities and seek independence from the Father-Knows-Best state.
