OOC: As some of you may or may not have noticed, I often RP with characters I refer to as "Black Eyes." I realize this name may sound wierd, so I've decided to make a thread about them.

Historical File 27984-C - "Black Eyes"
Background:
Officially called Kle'jhi, they are commonly refered to as "Black Eyes" because of the distinctive black rings tattooed around their eyes. These tattoos mark them as the King's elite Life Guard. They are masters of combat, both armed and unarmed. They are familiar with all weapons of the Malkyeri military, and are all trained to the highest levels of the Ko'bha, an ancient Malkyeri martial art similar to Tae Kwon Do.
As of the year 2004, the Black Eyes number some 600 men. Though they are technically Royal bodyguards, they are often employed in military operations as special forces and assassins. It is also not unknown for them to act as diplomats and colonial governors for short lengths of time.
The Black Eyes have existed since the beginning of the monarchy in Malkyer, about 400 years ago. In fact, many credit the long rule of House Saarad to the Black Eye's excellent protection. It is interesting to note, however, that the Black Eyes are loyal not to the King, but to the Throne of Malkyer. It is said that whoever holds the Throne holds the Black Eyes, but to get the Throne one must first get through the Black Eyes. This axiom is often used to explain why the Black Eyes have never rebelled against the King or Queen.
Leadership:
The Black Eyes have no leaders, per se (other than the King), but there are "prominents" who are generally accepted as leaders. In 2004 there were three such "prominents." All three were with King Layman II in the moments before his death. They are ranked according to influence:
1. Comanelle. De facto leader of the Black Eyes. His last known position was in the Dracun Imperium during their war with Zanziik. His current whereabouts are unknown, but the King has stated that he is on official business for the Crown.
2. Rayan. He is the man who leads the Black Eyes into battle. He wears a personalized combat suit which allows for much greater strength and faster reflexes.
3. Davram. Currently he serves as Acting Governor for the planet Haleon IV. He is most often used in political or diplomatic situations.
Instances of Black Eyes in Conflict:
The Black Eyes have fought as both elite and front-line troops in almost all of Malkyer's wars. Here is a brief history of these actions:
1598-The original Kle'jhi is founded in support of rebellion in the Old Empire. The black rings tattooed around the eyes symbolize their dedication to The Cause.
1602-The Civil War ends with the overthrow of the Imperial Regime and the ascension of House Dalorbad to the Throne. The Black Eyes are kept as an elite military unit.
1630-"Prominents" are first accepted as legitimate tactical leaders.
1688-Social pressures force the Monarchy to adopt a Constitution. The Black Eyes are ysed to put down revolts and surpress riots during the First Parliament.
1712-After the death by posion of King Albert VIII, the Black Eyes are incorporated as the official guards of the royal family.
1712-1715-War of Sucession due to House Dalorbad's lack of a male heir. The Black Eyes stay neutral.
1715-House Saarad takes the thrown.
1730-1791-The Black Eyes are used in numerous regional and domestic conflicts as arbiters, police, etc.
1845-The Constitution is amended to allow women to succeed the thrown.
1890-The Black Eyes are credited with winning the War of the Sun against Edrinople. Their guerilla and fear tactics completely undermined the Edrinian army and caused many of their soldiers to retreat in fear.
1928-1972-Black Eyes again see much action in various and sundry brushfire wars throught the region.
2004-Black Eyes are sent to the Dracun Imperium during the Zanziik War with orders to **section classified** It is unknown how many still remain or if they will continue to **section classified**.
Miscellanious:
Black Eyes have no surnames, thus showing their one loyalty is to the Kingdom, not to a family.
Who knows what the future may hold for this elite organitzation?
