We appear to be missing some Destroyers...

Bree Tonia Naval Command {BTNC}

The Minister of Naval Security and Surveillance was not in a good mood. He had been up since 4am, and had no plans of sleep for several days to come. Only a few hours ago, he had had the first incoming satellite reports of a Destroyer flotilla off its planned course, and not just the allowed area, but several hundred miles away from its plotted route. "Charlie" as he was known to his friends had been in a meeting with the Premier just, and the outcome was going to be expensive, the orders were in his satchel at his side.

Deploy 2 Heavy Assault Squadrons and a Medium Carrier Group ASAP
Issue Following Reference: NO67 Hunt and Kill

The meeting hadnt really gone well, in all entrants opinions, the Premier was wound up enough with the recent passing away of the Shadow Aerial Survey minister, a close friend of Zaitzev.
Charlie wouldnt forget the meeting, not for a logn while, and didnt expect to forget the events of the present day either. It had been missing now 8 hours, and it was compromised of 18 Spruance Destroyers, a tough fighting force, and with alot of Firepower behind it.

It was on all the minds of the BTNC officials, Why? It seemed odd it would go so far off-course, because even with navigational failure, that wouldnt affect all 18, surely?

It was then that the Charlie was again disturbed, this time with the instruction to put his PC onto SS4{Secure Stream 4}. he did, and there was displayed a block of text and Charlie immediately read it, and almost fainted once he had done so...

Greetings Dear Officials,
This is Thomas Baldwin, rank Sub-Inspector, Bree Tonia Navy. I am currently the captain of the HDS Leo Kruger, one of many Spruance destroyer I am sure you will have noticed, by now, are well off their planned course. I am letting you know, as an act against the tax-hungry anti-civil government of Bree Tonia, I have commendered the Flotilla, with the aid of several others loyal to my cause. We have total control of all systems on all ships. We are not going to interfere with any foreign nations, but simply to be an anti-thesis to any Bree Tonia forces that pass within our coverage. We will be quiet and act with guile. You will not see us strike Ministers, simply Hear it.
Thankyou for your time,
SI Baldwin
HDS Leo Kruger

Oh, What now? Charlie didnt have anything he could do or say. Lucky that the premier was so actively hostile towards the situation before, god speed to the fleets destined for the "missing" Flotilla.

OOC: If you want to join in the hunt, just RP it out here and ill respond accordingly, either as the Bree Tonia government or the Kruger Loyalists.

PRNEK 07
'Foxtrot' Class Diesel Attack Submarine

Captain Jack Wong rubbed his eyes wearily as he momentarily set his pen down. The log book stared up at him from the table in the glare of the table lamp like an annoyance that couldn't be removed. Pausing a moment, Wong sighed, picked up the pen and continued writing.

The trail run of 07 has gone according to plan so far. All systems tested well on voyage, and we are heading for home. We have been submerged for a day now, trying to keep a low profile to test 07's stealth capabilities. She's an old class, but it's still got some ki-...

The intercom on the table next to the book buzzed. Jack reached over and picked up the telephone reciever. "Captain here."

Lieutenant Hui answered from te other end of the line. "Captain, Sonar, new contacts bearing 047."

The Captain closed the log book and leant forward. "What does it look like, Lieutenant?"

The Sonar officer paused. "Multiple screws, definately a large group. Rotation noise sounds like destroyers, Sir."

The Captain stood, patting down his shirt. "How far out?"

"Roughly twenty thousand metres, Sir. They appear to be on a course relative to our own. No indication that they know we're here." Hui paused for a moment, before adding, "Either they're not expecting anything, or they're acting like they haven't painted us."

Wong nodded to himself. "Alright," he said. "Continue your track; I'll be there in a minute." The Captain replaced the reciever, and stood for a moment with a frown. A destroyer group out here? Someone's a little far from home...

He picked up the reciever and punched a button on the dialpad. Presently, the other end picked up. "Exo here."

Wong grabbed his uniform hat. "Exo, bring us up to periscope depth nice and quiet. I'll be up shortly to take a look at these guys."

"Aye Sir."

Captain Linden had had enough, he and his crew of the SSR Skotja had been tracking a unknown type deisel submarine for weeks which had seemed to loiter awfully close to a new secrect research lab located just slightly north of the artic circle. His orders were clear: destroy all threats.

He cracked his knuckles nervously.
"Les go we got a job to do comrades...prepare torpedo tube 1 and close in to one thousand meters at niner-point-five knots an hour."

The chase was on.

"Adjust flight plan to circle above the destoyer and try to hail it"Commander Tomas Rankin's 3 f9-12 screemer panther planes flew a little behind full throttle as they tried to hail said Destroyer.

The SSR Nuclear Submarine continued on in the murky depths. Suddenly, sonar pings for the unidentified sub it was chang were picked up and it seemed a larger fleet was approaching this way.

Linden stared in disbelief.
"Shit! they must know we are here! theyre rendevouing with an group of 18 destroyers! Call in reinforcementsand break chase! emergency dive to 1500 meters and go 34* SW!"

In far away Moscow, a message arrieved minutes later for Comrade Vitchousky.

"Sir, we have reports of 18 heavy destroyers and a unknown submersible approaching reaserch station 18. I suggest we scramble units to defend."

"Agreed. Get the 3rd navy in the north sea there ASAP protect RS 18 at all costs."

an hour later, a medium carrier group and 2 cruiser squadrons were found on satallite imagery.

"Comrade, it seems they have countered with 3 battlegroups heading for RS 18."

"Deploy all naval and air forces. Raise to Defcon 1. I WANT the the threat eliminated.

“Captain has the Conn,” The Exo stood to the side of the periscope and saluted smartly. Captain Wong nodded to the man as he stepped through the rear hatch into the nerve centre of the submarine.

“Report,” Wong said, stepping up to the periscope.

The Exo nodded. “Sir, we are at Periscope depth on a relative course to the unknowns. No other sonar contacts found.”

Wong nodded. “Very well.” He cleared his throat. “Up Periscope.”

“Up Periscope, aye Sir.” The smooth cylinder slid up from below the Conn, stopping at the correct height in front of the Captain. Wong snapped down the handles and leant into the periscope sight.

“Got them,” he said after a moment. “Looks like a battle group, definitely more than ten DDs.” He zoomed in. “Not familiar with the design.” With one hand, he pushed a shutter button, taking a photograph of the ships. “Radio, send that back home and request further orders.”

“Aye Sir.”

The Sonar Officer frowned, and then swore to himself in Chinese. “Conn, Sonar, ballast tanks blowing air!”

The Captain looked down from the periscope. A sub doing an emergency dive? He snapped the handles back up. “Down Periscope.” With one hand, he gripped one of the circular railings around him as the periscope descended. “Diving control, make your depth eight hundred feet.”

“Eight hundred, aye Sir.”

Wong checked his wristwatch as the seconds ticked by. “Helm, adjust course heading two six four.”

“Two six four, aye Sir.”

The Exo looked across at his Captain as the sub began to submerge. “Think it’s an escort?” He asked quietly.

Wong rubbed his chin. “I think it could be.” He sighed. “Load forward tubes one through four, rear tubes one and two.”

The Exo nodded and went to pick up the intercom. “Aye Sir.”

Wong gritted his teeth, thinking hard about his next move. “Rig for silent running,” he called. “I want to get off his passive.” Wong leant back, gripping the handrail as the Foxtrot descended. “If he wants us, he’s going to have to paint us with the active.”

OOC: Wow, wasnt expecting so many responses, nice one guys n gals. :)
IC:

HDS Kelegor Luthin, Lost Destroyer Flotilla
The array officer on board the "Kel" wasn't impressed. His two newbie students had failed to pick up on either of the computer-run simulations. They needed alot more training.
It was deadly quiet in the array office, and just the Officer sitting with his 'phones on and intently watching his display.
And then a noise. Quiet at first, but after a second or two grew and then faded. Ballast Tanks. He knew what they were straight off. That means a diving submarine, and from his screen it seemed they were very close-by.

"Conn, Sonar. New contact unknown bearing or heading about two miles to our Aft. Advise submerged contact."
"Sonar, conn. Aye. We'll inform Baldwin ASAP. Thanks, out."

----------------------------------------------------------------

Baldwin hadnt slept in a long time. He was nevertheless alert and ready, for he knew they would hunt him down. Especially after his threats. Then-

"Sir, We have just registered ballast tanks aft of the formation, about 4 ships picked them up. What shall we do?"
"Ballast tanks you say, why, that would be a Submarine, then?"
"Affirmative, sir."
"Get the ASW Helos up then, and warm up the TT's and Launchers. We can't lose out yet my friend."
"You betcha sir, the Helos will be up in 20 Minutes, and i'll order the Kel to setup her refueling array."
"Thankyou ensign, now, get to it."

The response was effective, every man and woman in the Flotilla knew not to betray the orders of Baldwin, traitor to the state or not. He was known for his violent course of action for those that underestimated him, and these young guns didnt want to be next in line to go on the list.

First, the weapons operators warmed up the TTs, along with the Launcher operators.
Then the entire Flotilla slowed to 4 knots, not to try to be stealthy, but to aid the array's listening capapbility.
A few minutes after that, there were 7 Helicopters up in the air, all with experienced anti-submarine warfare crews, of the SH-60 Seahawk variant, and they, almost as one started dipping within a 3 mile radius of the Flotilla, lighting up everything in their range.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It wasn't long before a contact was made, although it wasnt aft of the ships, not by a long way, it was at around 750 feet approx. submerged to the port of the ships, fading in and out of tracking range. then after about 40 seconds of dodgy pickups, it was lost. It must have slowed down. Only one of the crew of the Helo that got the contact knew what it was, a DE. A nuclear boomer or, for that matter, SSN, couldn't go that quiet. Electric was the only way it could be achieved. That would mean that it could be down there a few weeks maybe, with modern technology. Even with all these Helos lighting it up with dippers, they knew they wouldnt pick it up again for a long time.

Bree Tonia Assault Fleet #1
The fleet had only just been entered into service, the majority of the ships were new built, or at least finished being made within the last few years.
The fleet flagship, the HDS Karl Marx, was a Doujin-Built Leviathon class BBN. A very powerful ship, it put a large presence onto the modern day battlefield. She had been made along time ago, an exception to the mostly modern fleet, but she really kicked some naval behind.
The commander of the fleet was a certain Prequel Commander Glenn Smith, DPH {Dictators Personal Honours} He was possibly the most famed naval commander within the Bree Tonia fleet, and knew every tactic out there.
He knew Baldwin personally, unlike the majority of the high ranking officials, who just knew he was a name and a face.
He also knew he was damn good at short range combat and he was in his most pure form on the Spruances, his favoured ship. Glenn was formidable on his leviathon, but it couldnt withstand the payload of 18 Spruances, which is where his escorts came in. It was going to be good combat, but it would be sad to have to destroy so many innocent recruits, but it was now war, and these things happened.
His escorts werent really escorts, as they were more than capable ships on their own. But they really had nothing on the Marx.
The fleet had made its way now for a day and a half, steaming at 27 knots straight for the Flotilla's last known position. They would reach them soon...

“Come in.”

At the acknowledgement of the knock, Executive Officer Commander Chang Il Sun opened the door to the Captain’s private cabin, and paused in the doorway to salute.

PRNEK 07 had lost the pursuing helicopters forty-five minutes earlier, and Captain Wong had ordered the vessel out to a safe radio distance. The message reply from Kimch’aek was currently sitting in front of the Captain as he sat at his desk reading.

On a 641 Foxtrot, room is scarce. Fifty men share twenty-seven bunks on the entire vessel, sleeping in another’s bed when not on shift. Only the four most senior officers on a 641 have their own cabins. Jack Wong had certainly taken advantage of this luxury of command. The cabin was adorned in wood panelling to cover the bare metal, giving a much more sea-going impression. Adorning the walls where pictures of commands and crew long since past, all depicting action in the Korean War. A large red star dominated the roof, lit at the edges by wall lighting.

Captain Jack Wong was an experienced seafarer who had earned his pips the hard way. Joining the service when he was eighteen, he had served exclusively on submarines until getting command of a North Korean ‘Whisky’ patrol sub shortly before the Korean War, seeing extensive service throughout the conflict. The man was only thirty-five, but the lines around his eyes and the grim soberness of his expression made him look older, as was befitting a man who had found himself caught constantly between the proverbial devil and the literal deep blue sea.

Wong leant back, and rubbed his face wearily, much like he had done when writing the logbook entry. He tapped the sheet on the table and looked at the Exo. “Command says we stay here,” he said.

The Exo blinked. “We what?” He questioned, leaning against the doorframe.

Wong sighed tiredly, picking up the paper with one hand and began to read aloud. “To Captain, PRNEK zero seven from NAVCOM HQ. Understand situation. Request to return denied at this time. Maintain position and survey situation. You are authorised to fire only when threatened. Good hunting.” Wong dropped the paper back onto the desk. “We stay here,” he repeated sombrely.

Il Sun sighed as well. “What do they want us to do? Take some holiday snaps for the ride home?” He asked, gesturing widely. “God-damn top brass don’t know anything about…”

“Comrade Commander Sun,” Wong said sharply, looking at the man with a glare. With one hand, he picked up a pen and began scrawling on the bottom of the transmission as he continued speaking. “I am a lenient man with my crew, but I will not here that sort of talk on my boat. Is that understood?”

Wong held up the paper to the light. In hurried scribble, it said, ‘Door open – Government spies onboard – watch your words.’

Il Sun nodded, understanding. “I am sorry Captain,” he said loudly. “I took momentary leave of my senses.”

Wong nodded. “Very well.” He stood from the chair, stretching his back with a grunt, and sat down on his bunk. “Reverse course and put us parallel to the Destroyer fleet again,” he said. “Keep us nice and quiet in case that nuclear shark is still around.” He leant back against the wall. “Inform me when we get back on course, or if something happens.”

Il Sun saluted sharply and left, leaving the Captain alone with his thoughts once more.

OOC: Sorry for my absence, Work got hectic with XMas coming up, im here now though.

Destroyer Rogue Group

"Captain, We are getting reports of a very large inflow of missiles heading straight for us, looks like maybe 5 minutes until impact. Best estimate is 170 Missiles, all of the AS-18 Soviet "Kazoo" type."
"Damn! Whats the warhead liek on one of those?"
"700 Pounds sir, explode on impact."
"We might stand a chance, get the bloody CIWS warm now, and get those Choppers on the decks, all of em, we cant risk them to flak."
"Yes sir, Shall I inform Baldwin, sir?"
"I shall see to that."

The Captain of the Kelegor Luthin got straight on short-range comms to Baldwin's personal unit."

"Baldwin here. What is it?"
"Sorry to disturb you sir, it is just we have picked up around 170 anti-shipping Kazoo's incoming, I have ordered for the CIWS to get on alert, and the choppers back on their decks. I advise you to brace sir."
"Thankyou Captain, I will do just that. I also wish you the best for this. Pray and hope, dear Captain. Out."
"Aye sir, Out."

The missiles were picked up on CIWS tracking systems at 15 miles, and seeing as they were sub-sonic didnt have much chance against the Phalanx close-in weapons that the Spruance DDs had on board, the first volley came in from a steep angle, and the 6 of them split into two groups, of 2 and 4. the first went straight for a ships super-structure, but missed and went into the ocean, but exploded on a default water fuse a few seconds after, luckily only causing minor damage, but knocking out the use of 5 lifeboats. The second group of 17 homed on just one ship, the HDS Trial and Regret, and although 9 of the missiles were quickly disposed of, the Port side Phalanx overheated, which took it out of service allowing all of the remaining 8 Kazoo's to hit her deep into her main hull, disabling first her VLS systems and then inevitably sending her to the ocean floor.
Similar fates met 3 other Spruances as each volley of missiles hit, killing alot of men and also managing to damage 2 other ships.
Out of the 172 Missiles that made it into the group, only 56 were left untouched by the CIWS but they were enough to sink and damage alot of ships.

The Kel, luckily for the innocent on board, wasnt sunk. The captain was in the medical section, being treated for getting seriously hit in his left leg by glass that went flying after shrapnel hit the main screen of the bridge.
Baldwin had been on the Tornado, which had been sunk. It had taken two Kazoo's to the starboard, which hit the magazines for the VLS, and you can imagine what happened then. He died a few seconds later, from immense pressure as explosions tore through the ship, sinking it within two minutes.

HDS Mainstream Suvival, a Romero-Class SSGN with the first Bree Tonia Assault Fleet
"Conn, Sonar. Multiple airborne contacts have hit the surface. I couldnt make out alot of it but it seems 3 large hulls have sunk."
"Sonar, Conn. Very well. Are these in the area where the DD Group is meant to be?"
"Conn, Thats a-firm sir. There is still alot of screw noise on the surface though, and, wait! Oh my, there is alot of SD contact travelling fast into that area. I have got a good reading on the launching subs, sir."
"I fear for the lives of the men on those ships. Lets get tubes 1 through 4 loading with ADCAPS and 5 and 6 loaded with Harpoons. I dont trust that fleet."
"Aye sir, Straight away."

Rogue DD Group
After the news of Baldwins death, and a limp, the Captain, Agor Tovar, of the Kel had taken control of the flotilla. He had managed to establish a good rate of 22 Knots throughout the group, including the two damaged ships.
Just then...

"Captain!! Multiple torps in the water! heading straight for us at a rate of 45 knots, advise what action?"

Agor could have fainted, but knew better. He ordered the group shift upto flank and come around 90* in a flip flop formation, to confuse the fish.
they had around two minutes by his guess.

"Put me through all range comms, Exo."
"Yes sir, you are live on all ships."
"Greetings by Bree Tonian friends, today we are at a loss. We have several torpedoes heading for us and will be here momentarily. We will lose alot of us. Our ASW Helicopters are up. No matter if you, your friend, or the entire group are lost, we shall wreak havoc on these bastards!"

That rose a cheer from the crews of most of the ships, and then they were there. 4 torpedoes from a long range. They were in two groups of two. The first two came into a flood of depth charges and decoys, which managed to distract one, but the other hit the HDS Violent Retribution in the fore section of the port side, going almost through to the other, but resting and then not exploding, luckily as the sharp hull had pierced the torpedoes outer hull and lousy manufacturing had left the inner hull not airtight, so the chip which controlled the warhead was wet and didnt go off. However, this still left the ship with a large hull hole, and this caused her to almost flip onto her port, but just managing to stay alive thanks to quick thinking by its captain, who dropped power to the right screw, diverting it all the the left one. The second group of two stayed together, heading for the Kel, although missing the back of the ship narrowly, but then drifting into the Violent Retribution, finishing her off and she sank rather fast. The other torpedo managed to avoid all the depth charges and decoys laid out and went straight into the Kel, making her swiftly swizzel round to starboard although the explosive luckily just hit a sleeping quarters and galley, and decisive action by the crew on board managed to seal off the two chambers, keeping the Kel afloat.

Commodore Fortino, aboard the flagship PNN Benevolent (Ocean Class) decided to take action. He had seen some of the rogue DDs go down in flames, and he didn't want the rest to be gone before he got his fair chance.
"We'll hit them from so many angles, their CIWS won't be able to keep up."
"Yes, Commodore."
"Have our airborne DD-1s strike with JDAMs from above, while our Su-33s and -34s strike from the air at a distance. They should come in at a lower angle. Time it so that they hit simultaneously. Also, have our Hiroshima fire her SSMs, sea-skimming. Finally, have the Hiroshima put some fish in the water. If we time this right, and it's all coming in at the same time, the CIWS shouldn't be able to react in time."
"Brilliant, Commodore. Yes, Commodore."

Destroyer Flotilla
The remaining 13 Spruances had taken drastic action since the last two attacks. All ships were fully capable of anti-shipping operatons, and had pushed themselves to 30 knots with two days fuel left. They had come around in a loose formation, bearing down on the Carrier group that had launched the Sukhoi fighters, which had released the bombardment of Kazoos that devastated the flotilla. The Spruances were equipped with enough VLS armament to take down the group, or so thought those on board. When they had gotten within range, not picking up any Subs along the way, they launched each a few volleys of Harpoons, and also ERGM from their gun mounts. And with such a number of destroyers, the array of weapons launched was impressive.

It was just after the launch, say 20 Minutes, that incoming was picked up.

"Set Condition One throughout the ship, repeat, Condition One. Captain, sir. We have a large amount of ASMs and JDAMs, with a few fish maybe aswell."
"Damnit! Dont they see they are killing the innocent here! Launch half of the remaining Harpoons in the direction these things came from, and set them to auto-acquire-"
"But sir, they could then hit any ship they pick up, like a fishing barge or another civvie."
"Thats a risk we will have to take, XO. Do as I say, now, and go to 33Knots throughout the Flotilla."
"But, we have only managed that in unladen trials sir, how would we achieve it?"
"By trying my friend, we will miss 100% of the chances we never take, so this may lose some of the fish. As for the JDAMs and ASMs, well, thats up to fate."
"Aye sir, I will get straight to it."

The Spruances pushed 32 knots for the mostpart, and managed to avoid the torpedoes completely, as their long range sensors were ineffective with all the charges going off. They then repeated their previous volleying of Harpoons with auto-seek. Most of the ASMs had drifted enough to not pick up the Destroyers, although there were still 70 odd incoming from a low level. The JDAMs were coming in at a colossal speed, nearing a few mach. The first 10 JDAMs failed to activate, as they couldnt engage their tracking RADAR in time and just went incredibly fast into the ocean, for the most part. However a few of them actually managed to go into a spruance, piercing the outer hull but coming to rest in a stores room. Of the next 13, 8 of them couldnt activate, but 5 managed to, and hit various targets, sinking one ship almost instantly and damaged 2 others. The final 13, all of which activated, went for the 2 damaged ships, and sinking both. Of the ASMs, the CIWS was fast enough to engage most of them but still 23 of the 78 broke through and hit a few ships, sinking another and damaging one other.

The two assault groups had joined together and were about 200 Miles at the head of the carrier group. The HDS Karl Marx was the flagship of the fleets. There was continous CAP from the two carriers, mainly 12 F-15s full to the brim with AAMs. Prequel Commander Smith had made sure he would get the missing Destroyer group, but was having a hard time figuring out a battle plan what with all the assistance from allies. This new message over the comms was somewhat distrubing though, and latest satelleites updates showed a fair amount of ships in this Cruiser Group, although he knew they wouldnt stand a chance if he got within range for his guns.

"Assault fleet, this is Cruiser Group 1 of the Socialist Spartan Republics, state your purpose here and your origin. Also, state why there is a unannounced war in the Artic ocean so close to our sovereign waters."

"Cruiser Group 1, this is Prequel Commander Glenn Smith of the United Arabia Nation of Bree Tonia. We are here to hunt down the same destroyer flotilla you recently attacked. Commodore Fortino smiled with satisfaction as he heard the reports coming back. Nothing was lost in the attack, and several enemy ships sunk. Suddenly, alarms sounded on the bridge.
"Commodore! We've got missiles incoming! Also multiple other contacts, sir. They must be from the destroyers! Please advise!"
"Helm, hard a-port! Have the rest of the fleet do likewise, to bring all of our CIWS to bear. Get them warmed up... we're going to need them fully operational in a second."
"Aye aye, Commodore!"
"And jam their radar, if you can... to be effective at that range, they must still be waiting to lock on. If we can prevent that, we can make the work lighter on our defenses."
"Attempting, Commodore."

The missiles began coming in, and it quickly became apparent that the attack was too little, too late. The jamming was having some effect, and the missiles were only able to get a partial lock. Also, the fleet's 51 combined anti-missile systems (mostly various CIWS) were more than a match for them. The ERGMs, on the other hand, were a different story. Although they were fired in a rush and were not locked on, it created a bird-shot effect. The 26 individual rounds came in hot and fast, exploding in the water. One managed to hit the belt armor of the Hiroshima Class, causing some moderate damage. No sailors were lost, however, 14 were wounded in the attack. Another hit the water near a frigate, and its screws were severely damaged. It would have to be towed back to port.

In response to this attack, catching Fortino off guard, the Commodore decided to stop playing games. Using targeting solutions on the fleeing destroyers from his DD-1 B's in the air, The fleet's destroyers and frigates let off a salvo of VLS while the fighter-bombers used in the strike returned to the carrier. The fleet maintained its pursuit, although it was very slowly losing ground on the sprinting DDs.

OOC:
Few things to point out here.
1) As I stated before, no super-cavs. Regular torps fine but super-cavs arent something that are modern tech in my opinion.
2) ICBMs hit within a 20 Mile radius at very best, they arent guided while in the air simply set to one location before launch so by the time they would hit where my fleet was my fleet would be a few hundred miles away.
3) Your planes wouldnt get within range for Anti-Surface, I have about 24 planes up all the time, with the capability for much more. Oh, and the AEW wings up would pick you up early.
4) Also, how did you get 200 Planes out to sea in one carrier group?
5) Its really silly to open fire on my Navy. I will roleplay it out if you answer my previous question, however, I really beg you to think over doing this first. And if you want some intense RP, get your ships within range of the 22" Peacemaker guns on the Leviathons :p
6) EDIT: I just checked up on the Yakhont, its not available for air-launch. Its from a 9-Meter long pod, and id be very impressed if the Sukhois of MiGs could carry such an armament

srry about super cavs. thought the one im talking about is actually on the market. russia released them in 2002.
[converted. standard torpedoes with seeking.]

ICBMS hit stationary at 700meters for the best ones bout 1 km for the normal orerAtional. my ballsitic sub is about 500 miles away so it is basically a ballistic missle. please compensate for the firing. we aim them like wwII era flak cannons. we guess where you will go so they fire in front of your group appropriately. thoug i do agree they are a waste seeing as the most damage will be a
big tidal wave,
damage to electrical systems [most important cause without electronics, the ships are sitting ducks.]
radation sickness
{im not trying to sink ships with these missles, just disable some electronics on the carrier groups form you and Gefarland so my fleets stand a chance.}

the enterprise class carriers can fire off about 150 planes per carrier.
my carriers are similarily powered/sized maybre a bit smaller due to russia/soviet spending constraints. although i agree the stocks of weapons fuel is being used up pretty fast. i estimate i might have enough material if my fleet is lucky for 1 more strike with the same planes.

this RS18 base is the most important asset to the Socialist Spartan Republics. Ill show why later. even the destruction of about half our navy is worth us saving that base. Besides my mig 31s and SU37 land based craft did attack them already with some pretty powerful stuff.

besides the element of suprise. im flying at 30 feet above sea level. radar evasion workso somewhat at that height right?

We're hearing [or not, if it's too heavily encrypted... doesn't matter to the storyline] some interesting radio chatter, about some sort of a base in the area. Some fleets are making near-suicidal attacks; they must be defending something."
"I see your point, Commodore. Is this your way of asking for backup, son?"
"Yes, Admiral. I would feel much more secure in my position if you would kindly send..."
"Oh, shut up Fortino. This isn't the Royal Navy, for godsake. I'm coming to take command myself... and an Admiral doesn't travel without protection. It might take a few days, maybe a week for me to get there, but when I do, you'll know it."

Bree Tonia Carrier Group
"Admiral, the two assault fleets are now fully joined, and they are about 200 miles to our fore. Shall we keep the CAP down for refueling or squeeze some others up?"
"Send up two F-35s and get them rammed full of AAMs. Slow us to 4 Knots with a westerly direction."
"Yes sir."

Soon afterwards two Joint Strike Fighters lifted off from the deck. As the pilots got a few miles away, they were almost blinded by a sudden large light. They looked behind to see a watery grave for the entire carrier group. One pilot knew what had happened.

"Cat 2, They just nuked us."
"Shit. Are there even any ships left afloat?"
"Not a single one."
"But, how did an ICBM know where we were?"
"The enemy must have guessed our trajectory. We had no chance against it. I advise going to max speed, I dont want to get radiation sickness. The assault fleet has a carrier, lets see if we can make it there."
"You betcha, Out."

Luckily the two JSFs, freshly refueled, could make it to the Invincible class VSTOL carrier with about 10 minutes of fuel left, after a few bad landing attempts. The two pilots both got a helicopter ride onto the Karl Marx, and met with Commander Smith on the Bridge.

"Hello gentlemen. What on earth happened back there? All we saw was a flash and then nothing, RADAR isnt picking up the carrier group any more."
"We got nuked, sir."
"What? Dont be-"
"Sir, we saw it. They nuked us. I dont know how or from where, but they did."
"Hey, XO. Werent we picking up some heat signatures about an hour ago?"
"Yes sir, around 400 Miles to the East."
"I take it our Destroyers are warmed up?"
"Are you thinking what-"
"Indeed, Launch enough to overwhelm them. I want them dead, now!"

All 36 of the Thatcher Class Destroyers within the Assault Group were equipped with two 32 Cell Strategic VLS systems, and a single 48 Cell tactical VLS with a variety of missiles throughout the destroyers. The Invincible sent up a Harrier SAD Edition with a large RADAR boom on it, allowing these missiles to be fired accurately from long range. Each Thatcher fired off 12 Tomahawk TLAMs from the fore Tactical VLS, and also 12 Harpoon ASMs. They all roared with acceleration and then sped off in search of their enemies. The Harrier SAD had lit up the attacking Cruiser Fleet already, risking itself but feeding back data all the time.

OOC: Lost Dynasties, You have 432 Tomahawks incoming with 432 Harpoons behind that.

Lost Destroyer Flotilla
The captain was annoyed. he had just had reports of more incomings. Fast, huge and high angle. Hundreds of them. He knew what would happen. Him, and a few other captains, boarded a Merlin helicopter and flew off into the horizon, leaving the XOs in charge ready for when the strike came in. The missiles were unstoppable, CIWS got a few but really all the ships had more than 20 Missiles to deal with. Total death. A few hundred crew made it onto lift rafts in time but as far as they knew the closest fleet that was friendly was in the Atlantic. The helicopter with the captains was miles away by this time, searching out any ship with a landing pad for them.

9 carriers 6 bb pacific northwesta? that would take at least maybe 10-20turns to gather them form around the world or mobilize. surely you dont have that many patrolling the artic od you? Thats overkill if i ever saw any. how does 1 nation mobilize so many ships in such a short time span remember were playing in about hourly to maybe 6 hour increments.

Turns? This isn't D&D. We don't play by "turns". The way it works is, everyone posts their actions and nobody posts more by the same units until the opponent has a chance to respond... this makes sure that a battleship can't fire 20 volleys before the opposing fleet gets to fire.
Those forces are on the way, they're not there yet. As I stated. It'll take a week or two for them to get there. Those are my first and second expeditionary fleets. They're made to go around the world to do stuff. They're not my defense fleets, or my base fleets, or my main fleets. They're expeditionary fleets. Meaning that I don't have to mobilize them: they're constantly mobilized. It takes that long for them to get to the arctic.
Those forces are not engaging immediately. They are there in case things get ugly for my existing subgroup. The BT fleet has been attacked, and PN wants to respond, but as of yet doesn't have the capabilities. Now that people have been nuked, I want the reinforcements even more. And please don't call it overkill. It's two fleets, moving into a very hot area with unknown numbers of enemy fleets in it. Also, Michaels likes to do things in style. He doesn't arrive in a frigate.

Yakhonts cant be fired from the Air, so they need changing. Anti-Tank missiles have a range of maybe 20 Miles and thats pushing it.

You dont get interceptor missiles with a 66% rate of success, I hear the Sea Sparrow hits maybe 20% and thats when the crew are almost manually guiding it, so thats a IGN.

{calculation: 1 batch of intercept missles every 3 minutes with 66% hit rate. carriers/BB fire 4 at a time, battle cruiser fire 4 at a time, cruiser fire 3 at a time, destroyer fire 2 at a time, patrol craft fire 1 at a time 5 times during the 15 minutes.}

Im not too sure where you get this batch firing thing from, or for that matter a Carrier with anti-missile capability like that.

[about 619 missles fire toward carrier group of Bree Tonia for combined groups 1&3]

I have no Carrier Fleet, you nuked it.

[mi 28 helos suddenly rise literally on top of the Bree Tonia carriers form 15 feet to 300 feet and fire at all planes/equipment/people on deck. concentrate most of the fire on the flight deck itself to render it disabled.]

So slow-moving slow-handling huge helicopters somehow made it through the tens of destroyers, cruisers and corvettes surrounding the Carrier that doesnt exist because you nuked it? Right, another IGN.

"Good, good. I want those idiots dead, they messed with Bree Tonia. Now they will pay. Even after a thousand missiles, they might not be destroyed totally, I want us within artillery range as soon as possible. Also, get a stronger CAP up, I dont want another aerial attack."
"Aye sir. I can take the fleet to a joint speed of 26 Knots, shall I?"
"Indeed. And get all the guns loaded, I want to broadside those carriers and put them out of action first, then we can move onto the smaller ships. Any battleships in their fleet?"
"Well, we didnt see any. Biggest ships 'cept the carriers were a few BattleCruisers."
"Engage them with our other Battleships and ASMs, lots of them."

"Commodore Fortino, what is your situation?"
"My task force is joining up with Bree Tonia's remaining fleet, to try to keep a solid line. Instructions?"
"None. That sounds fine. Stay with them, make sure they don't get themselves into any more trouble, and for God's sake, don't get yourself nuked."
"Wasn't planning on it, sir. Pardon my asking, sir, but when will you be arriving?"
"I should be in-theater in a few more days, with the 2nd Expeditionary Fleet. Unfortunately, the 1st was farther away, and won't arrive for a week or so. It shouldn't be a problem, though: if anything gets big enough that we need them, it will drag on long enough that they'll arrive in time."
"That's a relief, sir. Say, you wouldn't happen to be bringing supplies and ammo with you, would you sir?"
"I must have read your mind, Commodore. The 1st and 2nd Fleets are escorting supply ships, to replenish the missiles on your destroyers and frigates. We've also got some extra fuel and ammo, just in case."
"Hot damn, sir! I mean... thank you, sir. I was just wondering whether I'd be able to use my destroyers much more."
"That won't be a problem. Michaels out."

Commodore Fortino was relieved that Admiral Michaels's fleets had finally arrived. They had all linked up with BTs fleet, as well as an additional carrier group BT had on the way (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong BT). Together, the united and mighty fleet steamed in the direction of sighted paradrops... something must be going down there.
Admiral Michaels ordered his flagship, the PNN Destiny (a Thunder Child Class) to hail the mysterious base found at the coordinates. [ooc: if the base is hidden, he sends a general radio signal into the vicinity. Please describe the situation, and where the base is relative to the water. The image you posted didn't seem to work for me.] After a Frigate, sent to scout ahead, drew hostile fire, Michaels decided to subdue whatever was there. He ordered his ships to load all weapons, and got on the horn with the BT command ship.
"Attention Bree Tonia Commander. We seem to have a dilemma. Clearly, this base was important. Now we have a tough decision to make. Do you bombard it to hell, or do we try to take it intact? It may have valuable information, but then again, it may be a death trap. Over."

"Sir, extended range radar on the Harriers indicate massive amounts of missiles incoming. they are going more than Mach, sir!"
"What the hell? let me see that......By god your right, quickl, send a message to the Marx, we will need the entire fleet to warm up the CIWS and Sea Sparrows."
"Aye sir, right away."
"And stop shaking man, this is war, pull yourself together!"
"Yes sir!"

Soon the entire fleet, well, it was more a navy than a fleet, really. The entire fleet had gotten all Sea Sparrow controllers several mugs of coffee and pshyched themselves, the CIWS had its own computer to rely on. And then there were the aircraft from the recently arriving carrier, about 20 F-15Js equipped with Sea Sparrows too, 3 each.
The missiles came in several waves, and incredibly fast. The main brunt of the first wave was taken down by CIWS before the missiles could lock on, also the F-15s managed to get a few with some sporty maneourves. The next wave was more deadly, as they had better radar information. Sea Sparrows were flying everywhere, some even colliding in mid-air. A couple of hulls were sunk during that, and then three more in the final wave. Luckily, the only damaged ships were a Leviathon and a Thunder Child. But naturally the missiles didnt actually affect them, as their armour shrugged off the relatively light 200KG warhead.

The warfare operater turned to the captain with a worried look on his face.

"Sir, there is a huge concentration of ampibious transports at the northern quadrant. Whether they are enemy or not is inconclusive."

The Captain scorned at the radar screen. He was furious, the new SAMPSON radar systems had been playing up and had been giving incorrect readings. Sometimes ships didn't appear when they should do and it didn't class enemy ships as enemies.

"Aye, that she is."
"I find a sense of security, sitting on top of a ship with guns as big as these."
"I know what you mean, commander. As I'm sure you noticed, I arrived on a Thunder Child... not at all small. In the event of an attack on Pacific Northwesteria, I even get to play with some Leviathons."
"I see we share the same views, then. Let us move on to business."
"Lets. You invited me here, and I agreed to come, to discuss what to do about this apparent military or research base in the area. Some of my young Lieutenants want to blow it to high heaven, but my more seasoned Captains are in favor of probing it with infantry, to attempt capture. What do you suggest?"

OOC: I need something more to work off of than "I like big guns". This is a discussion... I need your opinions to be posted.

"Well, tactically speaking the base means nothing to us, we have the OMP base but a few hundred miles south and constant patrols in the area. Invading it might turn something up but I dont see how we might gain from it. I am not sure whether total bombardment is necessary because of the lives lost, What are your thoughts, as an Admiral, Admiral?"

IC:
Admiral Michaels was thoughtful. "Hmmm... it all depends on our goals here. If it poses no threat, and we don't know of any advantage, then simply leaving would be the proper course of action. However, we can rule that out, judging by how earnestly it was defended. There must be something in that base. If we perceive it only as a threat, we should destroy it. But again, something valuable to the defenders must be inside. And clearly, we must assume that there is a threat, because it's doubtful that their fleet was the only thing protecting it. So there it is: dangerous and valuable. Do you follow?"
"I believe I do, Admiral. Please continue."
"So, what do you do with something that's dangerous and valuable? You disable it and take it away. Do you have any EMP devices available in your fleet? I mean, independent of nukes. We don't want fallout."
"I'm uncertain, Admiral, I shall check"
please fill in the answer
"If so, we could knock out their electronics, deliver a few precision strikes from ships and aircraft, and then invade with infantry and special ops. What do you think?"

OOC: Sorry LD, But there is no way in hell 25 odd subs would get within 200 miles of the fleet. There is masses of our subs around it, far enough out as to be able to use sonar effectively as is common sense, not to mention how your subs have to go close to the surface to launch, meaning our ships would almost definetly see you and, well, there wouldnt be any subs left to be honest.
Although if you still want to go ahead with that attack sure. But watch out for serious retaliation. And remember, I owe you a nuke.

OOC: He's right. My SSNs would have reduced your sub fleet to unsalvageable debris if you had brought it that close. Not to mention ASW helos, etc. Believe me, subs pose a big threat to a carrier fleet. They're not going to go into hostile territory without defenses.

IC:
"I see. Well, have it sent over. We'll start our plan without the EMP, but if there are delays, it would be good to have it on hand then. If you wish, my forces will take care of the bombardment (although you may point out targets if you wish) as we do not have a sizeable force to send in on the ground. I feel it would only be fair..."
"Sounds acceptable, Admiral. I see what you mean about the EMP... having it as a backup would always be good. I'll have it sent over right away. It's bad news about your lack of invasion forces. Why is this? Surely, with a fleet of this size..."
"Pacific Northwesteria does not project land power. We have so far found no reason to invade another country with our own troops. Almost our entire land army is a civil defense force, trained only to defend PN itself. What mobile forces we do have are highly trained and specialized, and we don't use them for frontal assaults like this one."
"::sigh::, I understand, Admiral. Fine, you take care of the aerial bombardment... we'll send targets to your command post as soon as we find them."
"That's a deal. I'll get the birds in the air."

Over the course of the next few minutes, the following planes took to the sky:
160 Su-33s
100 Su-34s
350 MiG-29s (escort)
50 F-109Ds
Also, the DD-1As (OOC: from previous posts) had been rearmed and refueled, and would also drop ordinance on the base.

The fighters and bombers in the air are equipped with HARM missiles, meaning that if a hostile radar installation on the surface tries to lock on, the HARM will follow the radar beam straight back to the source. Before the SAM gets a chance to fire. (OOC: a la Baghdad ca. 1999)

The planes are fed targeting coordinates, as ever, by a combination of command and control and DD-1B recon planes constantly surveying the scene. Now, BT recon would also be fed into the targeting computers.

"Ok. We're a 'go'. Do you have targets for me?"
Lost Dynasties

{alright ill take them back.}

3 websites all differ on ranges for HARM. 1 says 20 miles, 1 says 30+ miles and 1 says 80 miles? which is it? also somewhere, it said harms cant correct corse in midair if a crew turns off radar and displaces to another location. True or not?

Also, i need to know how far out the planes are from my base.

ill rp after some details.

also remember, the S-400 is a anti aircraft and anti missle syastem with 400Km(passive or active homing) ,200km(S300 Extended Range Missle, compatable with S400 system, active homing) 120km (smaller MR active radar system with projected .9 kill rate for aircraft.) range and can use passive as well as active homing so turning on radar on 1 of the trucks only once or twice for a few seconds is enough to find the general location to fire the passive homing missles. consider your range and my aa missle range as well as my antiship defenses(200 mile radius or around that number) when considering how far your planes take off from.
Pacific Northwesteria

[Responses:
1. I don't know the range of a HARM, however, make it towards the high end (or higher) because that is old technology and Pacific Northwesteria has been pumping money into r&d. Also, it seems like it all depends on the missile. You should be able to have a missile that can go any distance, just it gets heavier. Call it 100 miles, to be fair.
2. As far as I know, HARM missiles work by following radar back to the source. If the radar goes away (retargeting shouldn't have an effect unless the angle varied enough) it should become unguided, flying at whatever angle it was at when the radar turned off. Meaning directly at the radar installation. However, accuracy would be greatly decreased due to wind and other factors. However, this can fire before you even have a lock. In most cases, the installation is destroyed before a lock is ever achieved. Meaning that yes, you could get a brief image of my planes, but then your installation might die and your missiles would be fired blind. And missiles, especially from that range, can't possibly have a 90% kill percentage. From that range, a fighter jet could get back out of range before the missile arrived. Also, from that range, passive homing isn't going to work very well. Planes notice incomings, and alter course. The missiles never get close enough to establish a lock. Military things like this are very rarely as mathematical as all that.
3. My planes took off maybe 400 miles (640 km) from your base (at least from the carriers). The DD-1 As and Bs (by they way, they're WAY too high to kill without really good active radar) took off from Pacific Northwesteria and the OMP base in the Indian Ocean.

1. The F-109D is a Nationstates plane. It's not a real plane. Most of them aren't. Some are.
2. Even your missiles that you launched while guided arrive completely unguided unless they have backup passive systems. Perhaps you don't understand... I fire before you do when you lock on to these planes, unless I'm out of range, and you RPed my firing missiles, so apparently I'm not. If you cut off the radar before my missiles get there, your missiles aren't guided all the way. If you keep the tracking going, my missiles hit first, disable your radar, and the missiles still come in half blind. I'll RP now, or at least try to... would you be so kind as to let me know how many of things your launched and what I'm up against?

IC:
"Boys, it looks like we're not welcome here! Can you believe that?"
"Naw, Captain, I was expecting a red carpet!"
"Well, boys, as you can see we've got incoming planes and missiles. You know what to do."
"Gotcha, captain."
Missiles were being fired upwards at them, and bandits were coming in hot. The MiG-29s broke off to engage, as did the F-109Ds. Together they made up a force of 400 fighters, and an opposing force of fewer than 200 shouldn't be much of a challenge.
The enemy seemed to be fiddling around with their active/passive radars, because the missiles were acting strangely. Using the best maneuvers available to them in their slightly-larger aircraft, the pilots of the bombers managed to dodge most of the missiles. However, due to the shear numbers, many planes were hit. Most that were hit went down, but some managed to limp back to feet wet.
Losses:
43 Su-33s,
19 Su-34s
14 MiG-29s

Return fire:
The remaining bombers, consisting of
117 Su-33s
81 Su-34s
All of the refueled DD-1 As

Dropped ordinance on the prepared defenses. The DD-1Bs, lurking above, had pinpointed the locations of the SAM batteries because of the multiple salvoes that were launched. Bombs rained down on the base's defenses with deadly precision, avenging their lost brothers in arms.

The 50 F-109Ds (my link to the storefront died with the old NS boards, sorry) and the 336 remaining MiG-29s swarmed around the enemy fighters, trying to make it impossible for any surviving installations on the ground to be sure they don't have a friendly lock. (RP the dogfight if you wish... I suggest we both take losses and retreat. You're not going to wipe them out, and your fighters aren't getting to my bombers without wiping out my fighters. The bombers drop their loads and return to base, with losses, and the fighters return as well because they have nothing there to protect. Take it where you want, though.)

{NO OFFENSE, BUT......
NO WAY 950 missiles, using the BEST REAL WORLD technology the world has right now takes down 76 fighters. yes they are PASSIVE & ACTIVE SEEKING A more respectable number should be about 350 to say the least. THE BEST real world TECH, DESIGNED TO SHOOT DOWN GEN 5 Fighters cant destroy some older GEN3 and GEN4 equipment even even at .1 effiency is total godmod.}

my first wave of missiles fired out of range for the Harms at 300km or 150 miles. this guided them all the way. Then after the first salvo hit, you fired harms at me so i fired a salvo of passive radar set of missiles and turned off radar and displaced. then the HARMSs exploded, unguided. after the harms exploded, damaging 30 trucks radar arrays, the remaining 270 trucks turned on radar again and guided the missiles to the targets.

(yeah the 30 remaining missiles are passive/active. they are designed to support both and locks to CW/normal/PHASED ARRAY radar. .1-.2 kill is about right (3-6 downed))

{THE S-400 is BETTER than the Patriot. It was designed to shoot down future stealth aircraft(F-22,Mig 41,F35, Eurofighter, they wouldve savaged your non stealth aircraft.)

{{you should've lost a lot more planes. 600 missiles fired should achieve at least a .4-.5 kill rate according to russian press release, it should be .7 for the 400Km version. about 240-300 downed is more expected at .4-.5 kill.}}

Also the AA-12 is new MR(120km) missiles. they have all the capabilities of the S-400 except they are slightly faster.

{{The 350 AA-12 is comparable to the Sidewinder in capability. about .3 kill rate is expected even with chaff/flares deployed. about 110-120 shouldve been downed.}}

OOC:
1. From hundreds of kilometers away, missiles aren't as effective because by the time they get to the target, they are low on fuel, and the target has had a minute or so to get ready to dodge them.
2. You're assuming I don't fire more HARMs when you turn you radar on again.
3. I'm sorry, I couldn't post accurate losses because this is such a confusing situation, and I'm not used to the specific tech you are using.
4. My bombers got hit pretty bad, because they were on a bombing run. My fighters, not so much, because they were free to move out of the range of the missiles, and are much more maneuverable.
5. Anti-stealth means nothing. That's just better radar. If it's heat-seeking, it wouldn't affect it at all. It's the maneuverability of the craft (thus my fighters took less damage) and the speed of the missile.
6. Almost nobody limits themselves to existing ship classes and plane designs. That's half the fun of NS, to design and build your own. These are modern tech, meaning they could be built. Doesn't necessarily mean that they have been.
7. A formula can never fully account for everything. There's a reason why they actually fight battles. "Kill rates" depend on a lot more than just the missile you are using.
8. My DD-1 As are dropping JDAMs, 4 per plane (leaving some left)
9. Unless we can reconsile the differences in our RP styles, we may have to cancel this RP. Your constant use of rigid formulae get on my nerves, and my lack of the same gets on yours. You also tend to jump down people's throats, which I hope I do not, but I'm not really impartial so I can't judge.
