Sardinian Renato Soru stepped up to the podium. He was in the center of the Syracusian plaza, ready to announce his Presidency. With his bodyguards surronding the podium, he spoke.

"It is with great honor that I accept this office. I will bring this fine nation exactly what it needs, and that is economic prowess. For years, we have struggled underneath the Italian and French goverments. But today, that all changes. The past couple weeks have been very emotional, for all of us. Thank you very much for your support."

After his speech, Soru waved to the crowd. He then left the podium, and walked to his limo. What a week! he thought to himself. It was true what he had said, he and the other campainees had all just created a new country. It was a marvel that France and Italy did not retaliate to the decision; of course those multi-million dollar bribes certainly helped. "Take me to the Presidental Palace, Ramon." he said to his chaffuer. They sped off, to his new home.

London's congratulations to Soru have been forthcoming but low-key, PM Bull presumably keen to avoid over-comitting himself while in relative ignorance of French and Italian reaction- he may wish co-operation with the Bedoreli, but they are small-time compared to the French and Italians.

His Most Christian Majesty Louis XX wishes to congratulate President Soru on his successful election. There is no doubt in His Majesties mind that this will lead to future trade benefits for us all. As well, His Majesty is most grateful for the copious economic concessions made by President Soru and his foundations to His Majesty upon the Presidents elections, and accepts them heartily as a symbol of good will.
