Maderic Thra sat at his throne, a stack of papers piled over his lap. With his icy blue eyes scanning each page slowly, he reviewed various notices of international activity. This was an accustomed task for him that he had taken on everyday. While it often proved uneventful, he still sought out the time to do so.

Interesting, the Emperor thought as he came across a Tailva newspaper headline. A few sentences in, Maderic stopped and laughed -- something so rarely done by a man who was often referred to as Sub-Zero, simply because of his freezing cold personality. Maderic never laughed. It was so completely out of his character that most of his Imperial aides had never heard his laughter.

Astaron Tyrannus, the prominent head of the Imperial Court, was paying one of his frequent weekly visits to the Emperor when he was startled by his Excellency's amusement.

Almost worried, Tyrannus asked, "Are you alright, my Emperor?"

Maderic's laughter quickly died. "Yes," he said softly. "It is so rare, Astaron, that I find humor in everyday things. This, however, is too amusing to pass up."

"Curious," Tyrannus stated as Emperor Thra handed him the foreign newspaper.

Tyrannus' literacy in the tongue of Tailva was surprisingly good. The old man had made it a mandate of himself to learn as many languages as he could. The result was that he was an incredibly multi-lingual person, capable of reading and writing in over two hundred different languages and dialects. Instantly, Tyrannus drew laughter at the Tailva article.

"Most embarrassing," he commented. "Such journalistic slander is unnecessary, though. It's also more than likey a complete fabrication," he paused, "for his sake, I hope it's a complete fabrication."
