Automagfreek: Naval yards in full swing

-AMF News Update-

Deep inside secure Arda territory, several large naval construction yards are in the opening stages of construction. Most notably, there is a very large facility being carved out of the side of a small mountain chain near the northeastern most border of Freeksburg Island. No cameras or vessels of any kind are being allowed inside a several mile radius from this naval yard.

Minister Hartman nor Defense Chairman Jackson had any comment on the construction of these yards, save for the following statement:

*******

There are many in this day and age that no longer fear and respect Automagfreek as a pillar in fear and military might. Many feel that our air force but more importantly our navy is inferior compared to those of smaller nations. Plus with the attack on AMF ships by a rogue sub fuel this inane notion that AMF is no longer what it once was.

I can assure all that in the years to come these rumors will be thoroughly squashed.

The Wickit Klownz would be throroughly honored if you would accept our gift of 30 Galaxy Submarines. We bought the unlimited rights from IDF some time ago, and we have too many to maintain at the moment. We won't charge you anything for them, but you must agree to not reverse engineer or manufacture them them in any way. We will provide repairs to them when needed.

Here are the Specifications:

This sub has AENOIC tiles along the hull to absorb active SONAR rays
The pump filters for the nuclear reactor produce 25% of the noise of the USS Seawolf. This makes detection virtually impossible.
The ships surfaces in the interior are mainly rubber coated to absorb sounds.

Special/Intel missions:

This ship can comes with the option for a 32 man wet/dry compartment for SEALs or other special forces. This is attached to the top of the deck aft of the conning tower or sail. The pices is $75 million extra.

Jackson turned to one of his cabinet members and shook his head, laughing slightly. So, The Wickit Klownz wants us to have his sloppy seconds? The two then shared a chuckle for a breif moment. I' sure we can find some use for them. Seeing as we're in a constant state of war, 30 submarines will save the Defense Department a ton. Your call Mr. Jackson.

******

We will accept your offer of 30 Galaxy class submarines. On behalf of the Excessively Armed Empire, we thank you for your donation. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Headquarters of the Bonstocknian Special Services
Port Yuko, Bonstock

A man walked slowly through the deep, underground bunker that was BSS headquarters. He carried a file in his hands. He turned, and entered an office, where another man sat behind a desk.

"Major Anderssen," said the man behind the desk, "What is the report?"

"Automagfreek, sir. They are building a larger navy. Our field office in AMF reports activity at one of these shipyards, in Arda and Freeksburg Island."

"Do we have any satellite photos?"

"Yes, sir." He took out his file, and handed the other some photographs. "They are currently constructing naval yards at these locations."

The satellites had revealed that there were yards under construction. "Do we have any forces in the area?" was the man's response.

Anderssen responded, "General Bergren, we do have one submarine transiting the area, but rather far away."

"Subs have reported in the past that AMF has dozens of sonar buoys all around its territorial waters. It may not be wise to go agianst them with subs."

"We could fly a photo recon mission with an aircraft."

"They would most likely shoot it down. Then we'd have an international incident on our hands. But we must somehow figure out what the hell they're building. Though, perhaps, it might be wise to see just what their defenses are. Send the submarine to penetrate at least 5 km into AMF territorial waters, and then turn back. And get an aircraft to do the same. Just to test AMF."

"Sir, if they shoot them down, we would have an international incident. Or worse, we might be invaded."

"Lord Damien is a rational man, so I hope. He would not make war just because a simple submarine and a spyplane wandered into his territory. This is just to test AMF, and see what they would do in such a situation."

"Do you even have the authority to do this?"

"The BSS is above Bonstocknian law. As head of the BSS, I have the right to do anything I please. If the Riksdag complains, its just too bad for them."

"If this doesn't go smoothly, the Riksdag will have your head."

"I am aware of that. Commence the operation."

Anderssen saluted, and said, "Yes, sir." He walked out.

"Captain, we have an incoming transmission."

"From who?"

"Base. It says proceed submerged with a heading of 150 degrees for 15 miles, then turn 180 degrees, return to starting position, and continue on the course we're on now, and report on hostile activity."

"What the hell is base talking about? That's AMF!"

"Its... an order I guess."

"Well, its death or courtmartial. We have no choice but to take our chances." He turned to the man operating the controls. "Change course to 150 for 15 miles."

The man's face grew pale, but he did as he was told.

"General, you asked for me."

"I know this is short notice, but we have a mission for you to fly."

"What is it?"

The General took a laser pen and pointed it at a map. "You are to take off in your Microphone spyplane and proceed at Mach 10 and 100,000 feet to this waypoint, before turning to the objective area, an AMF shipyard. After that, take photo intelligence, and then turn back to base at full speed."

"Sir, that's AMF. This is suicide."

"I've asked you to commit suicide before, and you tried. Now do it again, and get back in one piece like you do the rest of the time. Make sure this goes off without a hitch. This is a classified mission."

"What are the possible threats, sir?"

"We don't know yet. That's what we're sending you to find out."

"Yes, sir."

He got his gear on, and got into his aircraft, a "Microphone" hypersonic spyplane. He took off, and his plane screamed at Mach 10 towards the initial point, miles from AMF territorial waters. Then he made the fateful turn towards AMF.

The general turned to the lieutenant, and sighed. "That's suicide! Sen two Demios Air/Space figters to escort it. Instruct them..." The gneral thought for a second. "Instruct them to defend the Microphone, but not to cause an incident."

"Yes, sir!"

In the skies near Automagfreek

"Base to Asphalt 1, new orders. After initial point, proceed parallel to the AMF territorial waters border, at about 5 miles out, for 10 miles, observe objective, and return to base as soon as possible."

"Roger. Order confirmed."

The plane did as told, not entering AMF territory, but instead flying parallel to its borders, while taking photographs to see what activity was going on at the shipyards. As soon as that was done, it would return to Bonstock. Satellites were a far safer means of observation, and would be used here on out.

Same place, under the ocean

"Base to U-47. Orders retracted. Deploy a probe, return to normal course, and leave area."

The submarine dropped a small monitering device just off AMF territorial waters, which would track movement of ships out of the shipyards, or at least until it was disabled by AMF. Having not actually entered AMF territorial waters, the submarine returns to its normal course, submerged as usual.

BSS Headquarters
Port Yuko, Bonstock

A Senator walked into General Bergren's office. Bergren said, politely, "Sir, what is it that brings you here?" He smiled as if nothing were wrong.

"General, the Secretary of Defense informs me that without any permission from civilian authority you ordered the commencement of an aerial observation mission on AMF, and the penetration of AMF waters by a Bonstocknian submarine."

"I was led to believe that that was the intention of higher authority, your honor. I was only doing as I saw best for our intelligence."

"That, and you risked the loss of a submarine and a highly classified aircraft plus their crews, for what, I ask?" His voice grew angrier as he spoke.

"I was doing as I saw best."

"You're lucky this hasn't become an international incident yet. The BSS cannot overrule civilian authority. In the past, yes, but times have changed. We are a democracy now." He paused for a moment, and said, "The two houses of the Riksdag have voted secretly to ask for your resignation."

Bergren bowed his head. "Yes, sir."

The Senator left, and Bergren wrote a long letter saying he was resigning from his job to spend time with his family. If all went well, no word of this incident would ever go public. Faced with any accusation, it would be the policy of the Federal Republic to deny the occurance of any of these events.
