The Risban Imperial Parliament exists to serve and advise the Emperor. With the recent shift in power, it is now time for someone new to take the place as Head of Parliament. The head of Parliament is the second-highest official in the Empire and has the power to delegate many laws and actions. Should something happen to the Emperor, it is not uncommon that the head of Parliament will take temporary (sometimes complete) control of the Empire of Risban.
Normally, the Emperor would appoint people to this position. However, Emperor Scorpius wants to test people's ability to vote.

Candidates:

Grand General Charles Lucas: The head of the Imperial Army and senior military advisor to the Emperor, Charles Lucas already possesses a lot of power. He is an older man, 64 years old, and is very militant. He believes in strengthening Risban through force and in more aggressive military foreign policies. He will, no doubt, attempt to completely militarize the Empire of Risban. There are rumours that he supports communism, but they have not been proven as of yet.

Countess Nora Courtney: The most powerful woman in the Risban Imperial Government, Countess Courtney is a mere twenty-six years old. She is one of only three women in the Imperial Parliament and well-loved by the people. She supports friendly relations with foreign nations and more civil rights for the people of Risban. She has plans of helping boost the economy and making more jobs for people. She is also a strong supporter of women's rights in Risban. It is said that she is one of the Emperor's favorite choices for the job.

Lord William Plutus: William Plutus is forty-three years hold and has been a member of Parliament for nearly twenty-two years. He is one of the richest men in the Empire of Risban. He wishes to legalize slavery in Risban and boost the economy. Lord Plutus is an isolationalist and wants to close all diplomatic and military ties with all foreign nations.

Cardinal James Kliptnock: The only priest in Parliament, Cardinal James is fifty-six years old and the most unfluential Catholic in Risban. Risban has no official religion, but Kliptnock hopes of making Catholicsm the official religion. His view is that everyone in the nation should be Catholic or they should be expelled from the nation. He doesn't really care about economics, trade, the military, or diplomacy; just his holy crusade.

Statement from Grand General Charles Lucas
"This is an outrage! Do you really want some spoiled, naive little girl holding one of the most powerful positions in the Risbanian Government? I sure as Hell don't! I have been working in the Risban Imperial Government since before she was born. I have more experience and my ideals are better. Vote for me."

Statement from Cardinal James Kliptnock
"What? Losing? Me? This is the Devil's work! People of the world, choose ME to work as the Head of Parliament! I swear I will restore order and Holiness to the Empire of Risban. Do not vote for these sinners and heretics. Their kind should be burned at the stake!"

Statement from Lord William Plutus
"Vote for me! I have money! I'll enslave criminals, people who owe debts, these religious zealots, and anyone else the people want to enslave. Think of the extra labor; think of what it would do to our economy! Vote for me! And, I'll promise to leave all other nations alone and let them deal with their own business, not interfering."

Countess Nora Courtney could not be reached for a statement at this time because she and Foreign Affairs Minister Perkins are entertaining the President of Upper Xen.

Polls closing tomorrow.

Our concern as always lies with the humanitarian concerns of the people. There fore we feel that it is in the best interests of Risban to appoint Countess Nora Courtney as the head of parliament.

The Countess Nora Courtney has our country's full support. While the General Charles Lucas is a great cannidate, I see Ms. Courtney serving the world better.

Emperor Scorpius was most pleased as he read the results after closing the polls. The fights the elections started amongst several Risbanians and the little amount of voters was a perfect example to his people how dangerous so much political freedom was.

Countess Nora Courtney has won the election. She is now the Risban Imperial Head of Parliament.
Countess Courtney is the first female to ever hold this position.

"I congratulate Countess Courtney on her victory. I know she will do this job well and am most pleased by these poll results. You see, my citizens, political elections are such a nasty business... Be glad we do not have them too often.
For all you nations who do have elections, I am not meaning to put your political systems down. If it works in your nation, then good for you!"

Statement from Cardinal James Kliptnock:
"I congratulate the Countess on her victory in this election and may God bless her, and all of us!
However, let it be known that I still intend to attempt to convince Parliament and the Emperor to pass my laws. The hethens must be burned!"

"Hmph. Congratulations, Countess, but this isn't over!"
