Kaiser Down! (Ragnarok 2014 Thread: Applications Required)

Dortmund, Westfalen, German Empire:

It was 7 PM and several German television sets were tuned into the Rerun Channel to watch old hit shows that had long since dropped dead on the airwaves. One of the more oddly popular of those television shows happened to be on.

Wer lebt in einer Ananas unter dem Meer?

Georg, a 27-year old computer engineer looked at the screen, eager to relive the carefree days of his youth. It had been so long ago, when Kaiser Wilhelm VI was not quite so old as he was now and it seemed like German neutrality was a given fact. But what did he care about politics? He hadn't voted in years. There was an election coming up and he didn't think he'd vote in that one either.

SCHWAMMBOB QUADRATISCHE HOSEN!

On a whim, he decided to change the channel to DNN (Deutsche News Network) to see what was happening around the world. It was just a random inclination. There was always plenty of Spongebob to go around ... the Rerun Channel had two episodes on tap for the next hour. Maybe he could feel like a responsible citizen.

The moment he realized what was going on, the remote dropped from his hands and the McDonald's milkshake had had been drinking slid down his throat like lead. His normally pallid face turned even more white as he stared in blank disbelief.

KAISER WILHELM VI ASSASSINATED IN BERLIN!

For the first time in years, Georg felt a personal connection to the news.

It was the next day and the capital was completely locked down. Travel to and forth from the capital was restricted only to absolutely necessary trips. The urban garrison of about 25,000 troops had been fully activated and roamed the streets along with the various citizen guards which had been a part of Berlin history since the revolutions of 1848.

Until the beloved monarch's assassin was discovered, there would be a temporary suspension of habeas corpas. Of course, one could exempt themselves from temporary imprisonment if they submitted to a psionic scan. In any case, the German police believed that the culprit was probably not a Berliner or a German citizen, but a foreign agent of some sort. There was very little organized opposition to the Kaiser, who had become as iconic to modern Germany as Victoria had been to 19th century England.

But the question was, who sent the assassin and why?

Carlos I'annicelli had been lucky at politics. A jovial man, almost a caricature of Italy’s charming ladies man complete with a sharply dressed Jettigilo suit He wasn’t particularly sharp himself, but witty and friendly. The Prime Minsister of Italy was largely a easy job, helped by his counselors that followed closely with German policy. After the war between the two countries, Italy became a dependant on German until the recent decade as the economy began to take footing. It was the first prosperity within the country since it’s formation, and under Prime Minister I'annicelli’s watch.

He wasn’t very complex, though he was the only man in Europe who had a mistress for the simple fact she wasn’t crowing about the Socialist Party and their ideals. He loved Catalina, he truly did, but the woman was too idealistic for a man from the South of Italy. I'annicelli simply believed the country needed someone to assure the masses as the council elected did there thing. He was simply too much of a celebrity to be handed the responsibility he was about to receive.

He had been with Lucia when an attendee came quickly to him in his home in Milan. “Prime Minister, Whilham has been assassinated, the press is wanting to know what you are going to do.” And the tanned, good looking Prime Minister was about to learn what it was like to gain an ulcer as he called the German chancellor.

In the Reichstag:
The German chancellor, Philip Dietrich picked up the phone. What awful timing he thought. Elections were due in only two weeks.

'Greetings, Prime Minister I'annicelli ... I wish this conversation could be happier. Unfortunately ... it is not. I really do not know what to say, old friend. I'm speechless, I'm livid with rage, I'm on the verge of crying ... I loved that old man, Prime Minister ... what will we do now? Punish the fucking bastards, whoever they are ...'

OOC: My friends thought it would be funny to delete that message, sorry people, it was just the Nipponnese Government offering support and condolences for the Germans.

The Prime Minister sighed. Dietrich wouldn’t hesitate the curse before Saint Mary herself. Not that could he blame the man, he would be shaken up too if he was that fond of the King of Italy. However, I'annicelli did not. “Dietrich, they’ll find out soon enough. Perhaps its one of the radical movement, God forgive me for saying this, but let us hope it’s just that, si? It hurts more, but easier to handle comparatively to international sources.”

OOC: Presenting Kuli, the everyman...

Robert Kuli weaved with expertise through the veritable maze of desks, people, and paper-stacked carts until he reached his destination.

"You have something for me?" Kuli asked Sanjay, the man responsible for receiving official diplomatic message drafts-at least in Kuli's section. The immense office was a conglomeration of internal and external communications, media liasons, and public relations.

Sanjay held up his forefinger to momentarily halt Kuli's inqueries. His eyes were fixated on a television on the wall. It was a news report, with the line "FASCISTS HOLD RALLY IN DOWNTOWN DELHI". The camera slowly panned over a small square packed with a crowd of about five hundred, Kuli estimated. The small figures were fervently waving Indian and German flags, and banners imprinted with fasces. At one end of the square stood a small cadre of men on a hastily-assembled wooden platform.

"The sound isn't even on. What's the point?" Kuli wasn't sure if the TV was physically muted, or it's sound lost in the cacophony of the office.

Sanjay shrugged, still watching the screen. "Who knows? I'm thinking one might punching another. They always seem like that." Kuli nodded in agreement. However, the two received a higher than expected amount of information when the closed captioning appeared, the camera focusing on a severe man on the platform. The calm, black and white captions offered a contrast to the visibly-angered man.

"...and we will soon have our day in the sun, when the gutters will only have to stand the Bolshevists, and only their blood, at that! Long live Germany! Long live India! Death to-" And he flashed away in an instant.

"Okay, Rob, I do have something for you," Sanjay swiveled to Kuli and handed him a slip of paper. "Something about the Kaiser's death."

"Hm." Kuli said in acknowledgement and sympathy. "Not really a bad man, was he? Bless him. I just really hope this doesn't start something." Kuli and Sanjay chatted for a moment more, and Kuli went to his desk to type the message.

From: The Raj, Chancellor, and People of India

Our first reaction upon hearing of the beloved Kaiser's murder was complete and utter and surprise. How could anyone committ shuch an act? We suppose you do not know either.

The Kaiser was a fearless leader and man, and for that he was great. Germany shall be all of our thought these coming months.

OOC> Feel free to RP reporters from your country asking questions.

It had been three days since the assassination and Chancellor Philip Dietrich was now facing a vast crowd of international media. He had ordered a press conference because he felt that this was very, very important news indeed. He gripped the podium strongly and looked directly towards the press, their expectant faces raising the tension in the room.

'Three days ago, November 28th, 2014, our beloved monarch, Kaiser Wilhelm VI, a man who ruled over our nation for fifty-three years was brutally and violently assassinated. We have compelling evidence to believe that his assassination was due to a foreign conspiracy. We have an agent of the Soviet intelligence organization, the KGB under questioning.

In light of this information, I would like to announce that me and Mr. Kesselring, the leader of the Conservative Party shall be forming a United Democratic Front before the next election. We invite any other party that wishes to do so to join this coalition. Furthemore, I send a special invitation to the diplomats of the Japanese Empire and Federation of American States to come to Dusseldorf, Germany to discuss the current diplomatic situation.

I'll take questions now.'

With a dry smile, the young reporter stood up and spoke in a soft honey accented voice. “Colette Mancurio from the Augustino Review. Mr. Chancellor, what do you say to those who claim you’re using this time of tragedy to trample on German people’s rights by merging the political parties? These critics claim you’re trying to limit the choices people have in this country.” She wondered how good the Chancellor would hold out to that one.

Philip Deitrich nodded and looked the reporter squarely in the eye.

'There are more than two political parties in Germany ... me and Mr. Kesselring just believe that there may be a great need for governmental unity. The concept of the United Democratic Front is not completely new in German history. It was used in order to stop the threat that Hitler posed to our democracy in the Thirties.

I believe we are entering into what may be a difficult period. The German people may choose to reject our coalition and vote in the Social Democrats, or god forbid, the Green Party.'

Dietrich said the last part with a smirk.

'Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't even consider this, but I think it is time that Germany and her allies took a good, long hard look at the reality of world politics and move forward with the times.'

"P. Chirrum, New Delhi Times. Herr Kanzler, what does Germany wish of the Soviet government for this act, assuming the charges are true?
Nordrreich

Dietrich nodded. 'We're quite confident that the charges are in fact true. We demand an official apology and an explanation. We are also considering various diplomatic routes, including economic sanctions.'

President Sanchez sat at his desk, watching the news,

Bloody heretic. Deserved it, the bastard. The commies are no better, though. he thought to himself as he reclined back in his office chair. Hmmm, should I send condolences? Nah. with that, he got back to looking out the window of his office at the revived city of Bogota.

It was now a heavily indutrialized city, with massive skyscrapers. Combine policemen patroled the streets, making sure everyone was doing something usefull. The building that towered above all else was the Presidential Citadel, a massive tower that stood over 300 stories. Below the president sat a massive reeducation center, operated by the brutal overwatch policemen.

The United Christian Republic didn't particularly care about foreign affairs, and so they stayed out of them, secretly constructing massive armies for the eventual unification of all Christians...

Shinseki Toki, a former admiral turned diplomat, got out of the limo that had pulled up in front of the press conference, as he was walking up he brushed off reporters from nearly every country. Seeing that Dietrich was in a meetng now he decided to wait till it was over, he walked behind stage as to not have to answer all the questions from the press.
