Following our bloody war with CamIII and our recovery, and the technological advances that have taken place due to cooperation with Moleland and Xessmsmithia, Orange state is announcing a series of advances and changes in its armed forces as well as several prolific new economic changes.
This data stream tracks them as individually they would only just warrant a thread.
First up:
The Ultima class fighter
Possibly the most effective fighter in the universe. Another marvel of Orange state engineering, after the desolation of our armed forces in the war and advances in technology gained by trade with other nations, we felt we should take the chance to upgrade our armed forces.
The ageing fighters were scrapped and replaced by a unit which could do the functions of both units (the light and heavy fighters) better than either could.
It has a four wing (+wing) configuration that makes it VTOL on planetside, and extremely manoeverable. There are thrusters on the back, while it also has a main unit on the back. On each wing tip sits a single B class laser, suitable to attack enemy ordnance and fighters from with a more than hemisperical field of fire, infact it can rotate 250 degrees on each axis.
The fighter boasts a twin B rear turret.
While these weapons are not too threatening individually, they can be set to defense, to work with the rear turret to keep enemy and missiles at bay and attacking enemy fighters trying to get behind it.
When in defense they are controlled by a non sentient AI which tracks enemy and calculates the most efficient way to defend to vessle, but the wing turrets can also be set to augment the primary weapons, 2 powerful LinAC weapons. In combination with the other weapons this unit can decimate the sheilds of most enemy vessels and could even face of weaker enemy corvettes.
While the rear turret can only attack behind, having 6 B class lasers firing at your vessel is a threat and even enemy above or below will think twice about approaching while 2 B class eat at their sheilds. Even with all that, the pilot can be doing something else like firing ordnace practising evasion and so on.
All the while the AI knowing the movements of the vessel compensates, meaning that as the pilot dodges the enemy is thrown but the turrets aren't.
It also boasts internal storage for up to 8 pieces of 400KG ordnance which can be changed depending on the role of the unit. The LinAC would be 75M4's by OS specifications, which means they are 75MJ per shot at 4 rds per second. Meaning that, with sheild and engine and artificial gravity (tachyon field generated) in combat the reactor is working at full output at almost all times. However the reactor is has ample fuel for prolonged useage, with the option of Ordnance being replaced in part by additional Icefire, allowing endurance to be increased from 14 days to a full 6 months if all ordnance is removed.
Ultima class fighter costs $72mil but 1 bil buys storage and staff as well for 10

Armour piercing non intellegent kinetic missiles (basically a self powered SABOT shell that accelerates towarss the target and discards the engines and shell just before impact. Designed to make holes in super capital ships and capital ships.
We beleive too many nations are looking at bigger vessels and not the bigger picture. And with its many weapons it can strip the sheilds of many targets and with its LinAC or armour piercing kinetic missiles penetrate all but the most riduculous armour.
Not only is it ideal for anti fighter ops, but its deadly arsenal and heavy sheilding for its small size make it ideal for attack runs on capital ships.
Obviously we are keeping this to ourselves right now.
The new solar farming project
As we have lost our favoured solar farming project we have decided we need a new source of cheap power, at present we use conventional fusion reactors for most non military purposes and icefire for the most advanced vessels. Our navy is undergoing a refit at the moment and more icefire will be used. Not only this, but conventional fusion inst infinite.
Our solution has long been using vast amounts of energy to recycle the waste prducts back into their fuel form. It isnt efficient but it is easy to transport and fuel is effectively little more than a store for energy.
Howver we dont have much energy left and out fuel supplies arent infinite, and we no longer have a well placed planet. We now have a better idea.
We call it the "Eclipse Project"
By creating solar farms in space we can place our stations in the best locations, have them farm more efficiently and work non stop, shaped to capture the sun's energy most efficiently. We can create miles of solar panneling and armour for them and use them to supply fuel and energy to our people. All they will require for defence against stray objects (though they would be placed in a low risk area) would be a few LinAC and laser turrets and a few fighters for larger objects, plus a small sheild generator or two.
We beleive this is the way foward.
