DRC invasion

Recent events had turned Safehaven's eyes on Africa. Safehaven needed a staging point from which to surport its many allies in Africa and Europe and to this point it had used allied land and to this point that had been enough. Not anmore though, it no longer was enough to have to use allied land when chance weere out their to use our own land. Soon a major staging point would be needed if events kept on heading in the way they were heading with what looked like a war war that would steal WW1's claim to the name "Great".

The staging point that was being discussed wasn't just one country but a swath of land in central Africa. This swath included the DRC and Rwanda which would soon feel the of the Havenite military on their shoulders. The offensive would take place from Zarbian Africa and the key thing would be speed, the capitol was to be reached by the second day, third at the most. By day three Rwanda should have fallen and so should have most of southern DRC. That was just the plan though, no plan survived contact with the enemy and things would be different once the fighting started. How different depended on how much of a fight the Zairians and Rwandan's had in them.

Air power would be used extensivly in this invasion and so dozens of aircraft and their crews were geared up. The first planes gathered in the late afternoon sky over Zarbian Africa and headed out. 144 Rain, 48 EB-9's, 60 AC/V-12 and 60 A/V-46 in all. They split into two groups, one heading West going to Northern Zaire thru Rwanda and one heading North straight to the DRC.

The aircraft weren't to be alone in hitting the DRC, they would get some freindly help. Silo's opened up in Zarbian Africa and 1,000 Hystrike Fasthawk I missiles hit the air. Turning on their sides they to headed to the DRC. The Fasthawk I was protected by the Athena system making it more stealthy then America's "Modern" stealth bombers. The Athena system would activly respond to incoming radar waves and send out a return to match the atmospheric conditions making it seem like it was just a patch of air instead of the missile it really was. The missiles hiding behind their stealth kicked it up to mach 8 and headed to their destination in Italy. The missiles were GPS guided so they wouldn't be using any radar that could be used to detect them. Their targets were all known Radar and SAM sites in Zaire and Rwanda. Sat recon had turned the DRC and Rwanda upside down in the past weeks since Tyrandis's invasion and as such with that amount of time almost every inch of the DRC and Rwanda had been pictured and gone over by intel. The missiles would make landfall before the aircraft so the airstrikes wouldn't exactly be a surprise but the DRC radar and SAM networks should be sufficiently damaged that they wouldn't be a problem for the airforce.

Along with the 1,000 missiles already launched another 150 were launched with them, but these ones were special. They were equiped with EMP warheads and they would hit Zaire's and Rwanda's major cities putting most of these two countries in the dark. The EMP warheads would do much damage to military hardware as most of it wasn't likly EMP hardened, the DRC and Rwanda weren't exactly equipped with modern tech, but they would cause chaos thruout the DRC. Communications would be down so although the EMP warheads might not take out military hardware it would severly hamper the DRC military's ability to send out orders making it hard for them to know exactly what the hell was going on out their. And hopefully stopping them from getting the word out that war was on ther shores.

The aircraft were now nearing their targets. Every one of them were extremly stealthy, more stealthy than an F-22 or a B-2 on their own but added to their own stealthiness was the Pallas Athena system which was now equipped in every aircraft. The DRC would have trouble finding them under normal cicumstances but now with their radar and SAM networks already hit by the missiles strikes it should almost be impossible.

In small groups of 4's, 6's and 8's the Rain scoured the DRC and Rwanda with only two goals in their mind-1) Finish off any surving SAM's and radar and totally destroy any air defense capabilities and 2) bomb and missile all military airfields, destroying their arforce on the ground.. Any remaining SAM or radar sites were hunted down viciusly by the Rain, the Rain armed with the Kraven missile had the ability to target and destory SAM and radar sites from over 150km away making them completly safe from any return SAM fire. The Rain with their stealthiness and their Pallas Athena should be able to hit and destroy any radar and SAM sites before they were even detected but that all depended on how modern the DRC radar was and how much had survived the missile strikes.

Now the rest of the aircraft except for the joined the fight. The heavy EB-9 Night Eagle's were in bigger formations than their smaller counterparts. Each EB-9 held 90,000 lbs of missiles and bombs and they were going to use them to their full effect hitting military bases across the DRC with an assortment of munitions. Dropping huge RBK-1500 bombs to tear apart any organized DRC military forces or militia among other things. They also each had a few Kravens in case any radar or SAM sites survived and gave them problems added to a couple AA missiles.
The AC/V-12 Pegasus's acted much like the A-10 gunships of old, flying in with their arrays of guns and weapons racks they were to pound the DRC army and local militias especially targgeting tanks, artilarry and other armored vehicles. Again if they saw any SAM or radar sites they would automatically recieve priority and would be destroyed by the Pegasus's.
After a while the A/V-46 Wasp II's finally reached the area. They were a sort of Helo-Jet hybrid giving it remarkable abilities. The DRC would hopefully mistake them for their own. It wouldn't really matter as the IDRC and Rwandan air defense network should have by now been destroyed but anyhow the Wasp II's weren't without their own stealth and Athena systems. The Wasp were given a free reign to destroy any targets of oppurtunity that they could find. They were simply to hunt down and destroy Rwanda's and the DRC's ability to function in this war.

With the airforce pounding the DRC the army rolled in. The ground offensive would be comprised of 4 major drives with a few smaller minor pushs. The four major drives were comprised of 1) A push from Angola to Kinshasa the capitol 2) Push from Angola to the cities of Kananga and Mbujji -Mayi via Tshikapa 3) From Zambia to Kolwezi and Lubumbashi and 4) From Tanzania into Rwana and then to Kisangani in the DRC.
The offensive started across the board at 6 A.M., a time when the Havenite forces would have an advantage with their night vision gear. Storming across the border the 115,000+ men and women met little to no resistance. Border gaurds were quickly overrun and the few military and militia units that they met along the way were to dazed and confused from the bombing to do much. The first casualty of the day came in the drive on the capitol when a DRC BMP opened up on an infantry squad that had dismounted for a break killing three and wounding another 5 before a M-88 Badger took the BMP out sending it flying in the air. For the most part things went well and the timetable was on schedule. By the end of the day Kolwezi, Lubumbashi and Tshikapa had all fallen. Rwanda's capitol was surrounded on 3 sides by the 56th division but the assualt wouldn't begin till more forces moved up.
These weren't the only happening of the day. While all this fluff was going on the 17th Marine division in cooreperation with the 6th mech brigade army sealed off Zaire's coast taking Boma and Muanda. One of the two naval fleets based in Zarbian Africa moved up to the DRC coast and in the early morning 15,000 marines were landed around the port cities of Boma and Muanda. While this was happening the 6th rushed across the border in tehir APC's and IFV's and hit the cities from their land side. Both cities were situated on or near the Angolan border so doing this was easy. These 'cities", actually large towns, put up tough resistance but the DRC didn't have weapons that could take out the heavy tanks that led the way and in the end they fell.
Casualties:
24 Havenites dead
63 wounded
DRC and Rwandan casualties unkown

OOC: This is the rl Earth, Earth 1 whatever you wanna call it and Im backing up my claims in the thread. And Zaire and the DRC are the same country I just switched it up a bit.

Day 3

The invasion was going just as planned. It was more of an army exercise than a true war. The capitol had fallen for the most part, all that was left was a few neighborhoods on the north side. Rather than bothering to barge in and take them by the nirghborhoods were simply cordoned off. Within two hours 40 EB-9 Night Eagles and dozens of other planes flew over the city and began dropping hundreds of tons of HE on the DRC controlled neighborhoods. 200 Gabriel guns and 300 Smerch MLRS systems also opened up and continued for two hours. In that time another airstrike was called in and finally the army moved in. There wasn't much left of that area of town and to add to the destruction the orders were passed down, weapons free, the army had permmission to shoot anything they wanted. This would be a lessen to the rest of the country not to resist the invasion.

The Kananga/Mbuji-Mayi, Kolwezi and Lubumbashi drives all merged into one massive push into the heartland of the DRC. With most of their original goals complate they now headed to Kisangani in the heart of the DRC on the Lualaba river. Many of the cities and towns they found along the way didn't even know the invasion had happened. The power outages and the communications network being out had stopped the word from reaching many places in the interior. The men started getting cauky and overconfident, they had just taken over a huge swath of land in just 3 days with hardly any casualties. They started riding on the tops of their vehicles, taking their helmets off even taking theri armor off and going bareshirt to deal with the heat. The Zaireians weren;t done fighting though and they would make the Havenites pay for this.

The city of Kasango sat on one of the few major highways in the DRC. It also sat on the Lualaba river making it an important city on the way to northern Zaire. The lead units of the advance had reached the city in the morning on the fourth day and like usual they took the city without any resistance. It was decided to stop for a little bit and wait for the rest of the army to catch up. A perimeter was set up and everyone relaxed. Many of the men dived into the river and started bathing, while other layed back to get a tan. Kasango was also the city were surving members of the DRC military and some militias had planned to make a stand. The militia men silently surrounded the perimeter and set themselves up.

From rooftops they poured fire into the men swimming and lying around the river. A few mortors they had salvaged from a bombed out military base poured in their own weight. The men were totally caught by surprise and dozens went down. More men died in the opening 10 minutes than in the entire invasion up to this point. Fire cut down the mostly unarmed men who didn't have on their armor. In two locations the perimeter was breached and the fighting broke down into hand to hand in some spots.A KAF-90F tank on the perimeter was overun by militia who try to literally pry open the tank to get to the soft skinned cargo it carried on the inside. They almost did it to, but the crew in desperation blew their WASP II AMPS packets on the outside of the tank. These packets were filled with dozens of 5mm fletchets, they were designed to fire out at emourmas speeds and take out ATGM before they could hit the tank. They could serve one other purpose, and that was in desperate situations they could be blown to kill infantry. Their were dozens of packets all over the tanks equaling thousands of Fletcheties flying out into the mass of bodies around the tank. The result was a bloodbath, the militiamen who had been in that area were turn apart literally. After 1 1/2 hours of fighting the militiamen were pushed out of the area and the perimeter secured. After this incident discipline was buckled down across the board.

The drive thru Rwanda was a complete succes with 80% of Rwanda secured, all that was left was to mop up a few isolated area's. Now the drive continued into Zaire and was well on its way to Kisangani and cutting the DRC in half.

OOC: Im just gonna wrap this up, got other rps that will be taking my attention.

IC:After the battle at Kasango a few more stands were made by DRC and militia forces but what remained of them were holed up in the city of Kisangani, the last major city not in Havenite hands. The city was under siege and would fall within the week, joining the rest of Zaire. Rwanda had been wrapped up a few days before and now two divisions crossed the border into the small nation of Barundi. In the north the advance didn't stom continuing into the Central African Republic. Bangui, its capitol was right on the border and with its capture the whole country was basically in Havenite hands. With all objectives met everything settled down and what now happened was the Havenitian of what was now Havenite Africa. Billions of dollor were being poured in to modernise the area and to build up defenses. Two full corps and two armored brigades would be based here along with a newly christened fleet.
