The GIR-37 assault rifle is a state of the art front line combat service rifle recently developed under government contract by Gallahad Defense Industries inc. The GIR-37 is intended to replace the XM-8 assault rifle, which is the current standard issue rifle for the Imperial military.
The GIR-37 is the pinnacle of modern military design, and the culminating point of Imperial military research conducted throughout the Empire by the world’s leading scientists and defense specialists.
The GIR-37’s design is developed from existing XM-8 technology, including the current gas powered firing module. However, the GIR-37 incorporates electronic innovation to improve the rate of fire and weapon reliability. Weighing in at 6.5 lbs, the weapon does not sacrifice the XM-8's light weight or compact nature.
An outstanding feature of the GIR-37 is the ability to hold and quickly change reserve magazines in a completely hands free fashion. The Imperially designed rotational GORT module handles the transfer of reserve magazines into the rifle. When a clip runs dry, the module automatically loads another within a half second. Therefore, the assault rifle provides easy capability of high-powered, accurate suppressing fire.
The GIR-37 incorporates a cylindrical magazine, each holding 100 rounds. The magazines are light and compact, allowing soldiers to carry a larger quantity of ammunition without sacrificing mobility. The magazines include 7.62mm and 5.56mm round variants.
The GIR-37 sports the ability to reconfigure the weapon to serve different roles through fast and easy adjustment. Each center module can be configured into a standard assault rifle, squad automatic weapon, or sharpshooter variant to provide flexibility even in the heat of combat. The GIR-37 is also capable of being fitted with a GI-9 grenade launcher.
The GIR-37 was designed with the idea of ease of use in mind, and so sports reinforced structure to protect the weapon from the elements or forcible blows. The integration of certain mechanisms in the firing module make for systems that are far easier to clean and maintain. Thus, the weapon is ‘GI proofed,’ and ready to be handed to soldiers of varying experience for reliable use in any situation.
