JERUSALEM- In an announcement from the DoD, IDF Armed forces are being called up for excercises in the Negev and Sinai regions of Israel. Approximately 2 million ground forces and logistical supply troops will be participating. Over 1,000 aircraft and hundreds of ships will be participating. The idea of the excercise is to simulate two simultaneous invasions, one from the Northwest out of the Med and another from the South out of the Red Sea. The wargame will be the largest in IDF history and is meant to simulate what military planners see as the most likely future war.
While it hasn't been officially released, there is speculation that paratroopers and additional ground troops will an invasion from Jordan and others will simulate an invasion from Syria into the Golan Heights. Secretary of Defense Jerry Angelo said this, "Israel hasn't been invaded since 1973. Our troops must be prepared for a situation worse than 73. If you recall, we almost lost. Our troops' experience is what saved us then. Our troops need that experience today. This excercise will help them get that experience."
