TIMIOCATO (PPA) - The wounds just keep getting deeper and deeper for now former Liberal Party leader Aracio Partiva.

Just one day after an election that saw Partiva defeated by PM Timothy Ell in a retry of the PM vote (the CLP/HPL and Senatoro votes were not redone), he has been removed of his duties as party leader by the party's board of governors.

Partiva picked up three of Pacitalia's nine regions, giving him 35 electoral votes. It was, ironically, the best showing of a Liberal candidate (in an opposition spot) in 35 years, but not enough to keep him in his position. His opponent, the incumbent Prime Minister, got 71 electoral votes off 4 regions, 10 more EVs than needed to be the leader of the nation.

"We need to move in a different direction," a Liberal BoG spokesperson said in a phone statement to the media today. "The Board of Governors for the Liberal Party appreciates the work Partiva has done, but we need to sort out our priorities and get a fresh start. Our strategies have worked, but not well enough to get into power, and that's what matters in our decision."

The spokesperson added that there was some "baggage" resulting in the removal of Mr Partiva from his position.

"[The board of governors was] never happy with [Mr Partiva's] decision to challenge the PM vote results the first time around," he added.

Partiva stays on as MPP in his home district, 52 (Northeast Region), but from now on ceases to hold a position of authority in the party. The Liberal BoG has named Fernando Chiovitti interim leader of the party and interim opposition leader in the House of Parliamentary Legislation.

Mr Partiva could, of course, not be reached for comment.
