OOC: Possible Idea for an RP - constructive criticism/support welcome

Hello all,

Recently new to these boards, I am eager to attempt at some form of RP of my own. Looking at the success of many of the survival-type RPs on this board, I'm thinking of trying this idea in a sort of free-form style of storyline.

This is basically inspired by the excellent (and rather disturbing) British Docu-drama "Threads", which follows the lives of a group of people from 6 months prior to five years after a full-scale nuclear attack on the United Kingdom by the Soviet Union. The basic idea is that, and also drawing on current tensions in the world to make this more interesting.

Basically, the premise would be an RP set in Los Angeles, following the lives of a group of people (i.e. your characters) in the time before and after a nuclear attack by North Korea. Except for that basic framework which I would be narrating (RPing myself as the government etc), the rest of the RP would be free-form, allowing people to develop potential characters for other RPs or just simply make someone for this particular story as they attempt to survive and escape the wreck of the city.

Now, I realise there may be two problems here:
1) Being as this is being set on RL possibilities and locations, I am aware that some people may be a little sensitive to this. If so, I would like to know if this would be a problem.
2) The idea and potential problem with this survival RP is that there is no single enemy for everyone to band against - zombies, mutants etcetera. I would like to know whether anyone would think this could cause problems at all regarding the interest of the RP.

Thankyou for your time, and I hope we can get something like this worked out. :)

Regards.

Dude!!! This sounds great! If you ever actually do this, TG me. But it might be a good idea to get a bunch of people together first and make this a closed RP. If you leave it open, we'll probably end up with a Hatarian radiation-resistant invincible zombie-killer with a nuclear missile launcher. Maybe we could even have Korean troops in NBC gear moving in as a follow-up attack.

If you do do it, then sign me up.

Possible forces...
Survival militia: humans, hiding during nuking, fighting for survival.
Mutated hordes: zombies, or mutants, kinda thing. Not capable of intelligent thought but will hunt down humans to kill them.
Stalkers: mechanical warriors with orders to kill anything that moves. They have been sent in to clean up the mess. Very difficult to kill, unless you have AT weapons

Glad to hear that you think this sounds good, Taldaan. I'll definately TG you if I do this. And I agree, making it closed RP beforehand would be a good idea.
The ideas of Korean troops moving in is an interesting idea. Generally, I wouldn't have expected something like that to happen, as North Korea couldn't do a full-scale invasion of the US. Maybe with Chinese support, though...interesting ideas forming. :)

Again, I'll certainly let you know if/when I put this into practice. regarding possible forces, I'd prefer to stay away from the whole zombie-monster thing. Although, the idea of an invasion by Chinese/North Korean forces is an interesting idea - gives everyone a common enemy to fight whilst trying to survive in a nuked Los Angeles.

See, ideas for improvements are being formed already! :D Any more opinions and ideas are welcome.
