Democracy is quite useless if not used in further measures against private ownership

Portmeirion (Raipur), Chhatisgarh, The Igovian Soviet Commonwealth

“Democracy is quite useless to the people if it is not immediately used to carry further measures against private ownership!”

Comrade Chairman Graeme Igo, Grandfather of the Igovian Revolution and Greatest Genius in History was speaking from the Green Tower at the heart of the island of Portmeirion on its manmade lake. His subject, broadly, was the state of the revolution in the commonwealth.

He looked back on how, several years ago, the Igovian revolution had overthrown Llewellyn’s capitalist kingdom and replaced its ineffective parliamentary party-based political structure with authoritarian Igovian socialism. He spared a few comments for the heroes of that revolution and of the civil war fought against the royalists holding out on Victoria and Salvador (Sri Lanka) and their reactionary cohorts from Iansisle. Since victory, he said, progress had been good, interrupted rarely and never fatally. The recent people’s dictatorship under his son, comrade Premier for the Duration of the Dictatorship of the People Sopworth Igo, Hero of the Igovian Revolution, had strengthened the revolution and ensured stability. Under Igovian guidance, Beth Gellert’s three hundred million comrades had brought their healthy share of the Indian sub-continent to the brink of utopia, and only a few grand steps remained to be taken along the revolutionary road.

“Some of you have chosen already to go ahead with the greater community of goods that we all must seek, and I have Civil Service reports detailing a good standard of planning in your home colonies. The time has come, comrades, to carry this through on a truly revolutionary scale.”

What followed was an enactment of the generally agreed edict for progress. Argued over for months in The Commonwealth’s lumbering three-tiered system of open senates, this was the complete re-organisation of Beddgelen society on a scale not seen since the arrival of the British in India.

“It’s in the way, we’re bringing it down, hang on... Adiatories! Stop messing around with that Apostle and set the charge!”

“...Iskra! channel 2 on scene at Santhome Cathedral. This morning saw the demolition of the huge Mecca Masjid mosque in Fort Brennus [Hyderabad] and the preparing of earth in Sumer [Colombo] after high-rise buildings came down. Now comes Porthmadog’s turn to begin the march to equality and community as the useless site of the Apostle St. Thomas’s tomb is cleared for the erection of the first of what shall be more than one thousand Phalansteric Home Colonies in the ancient city. Gathered around we see scores of excited comrades prepared to begin the erection –by public works and to Civil Service approved specification- of the grand structure that will house three thousand of them where until now there has been only some dead Christian.
“It has meanwhile been announced that the Golconda Fort on the outskirts of Fort Brennus will not be removed but renovated for re-use by a Phalanstery.”

The future of the Santhome cathedral site: a home colony laid-out in the state-approved fashion planned for a hundred thousand more across the Beddgelen sub-continent. The Tomb of St.Thomas is to be built-over once the cathedral is demolished.

"...and the current minarets roughly correspond with the future dimensions of the inner square?"

"Yes, in this case. The open section, at least. Usually the open area would be much larger, but in line with local sentiment expressed at the old Local Senate regarding the severity of the monsoons, this colony shall have more extensive coverage of its communal courtyard."

Even as the civil servants and documentary film makers were discussing the event, a series of timed explosions were bringing down walls at yet another obsolete religious conscrution. The tumbling of these minarets would eventually be followed in films by the fall of Santhome Cathedral's spire and by the collapse of shopping malls on Victoria.

Across Beth Gellert, countless thousands of comrades were mobilising to construct their future communal homes atop the ruins of former icons of capitalism, religion, empire, and parliamentary democracy. Igovian forces deployed against Bonstock continued to trickle home to lend their muscle to the struggle.

Iskra! documentary deals with foreign reaction to greater evolution of Beddgelen social, economic, religious, and wider political life

"The bulldozing of the vast Mecca Masjid mosque in Fort Brennus [Hyderabad] is a recent memory already pushed aside by most forward-looking Igovian comrades and the Santhome Cathedral, with its under-lying tomb said to contain the Apostle St.Thomas, in Porthmadog [Madras/Chennai] is wired for demolition. Beddgelens are deeply engaged by their active role in taking the next step in human evolution, one that puts behind them all need for many past institutions and does it properly and openly rather than in the misguided fashion of many past revolutionaries.

"But while The Igovian Soviet Commonwealth embraces the human spirit of progress, that which divides man and beast, and seeks to destroy artificial mass opiates and false democratic instruments of government, many less progressive persons outside Beth Gellert have begun to express the fearful anger of the ignorant.

"From Maharashtra, comrade Sunita Wells-Akram reports on some of the closest manifestations of this backlash."

"One of Beth Gellert's largest neighbours, Maharashtra is in both area and population approximately one third of The Commonwealth's size. Still trying to compete in a world of currency-based trading and consumerism, it enjoys a much lower standard of living and soaks up significant aid from Portmeirion each year. The state practices the sort of false democracy seen in almost all nations that wrongly refuse to call themselves dictatorships, relying on parties and plebiscites, unwilling to admit that representation is a denial of participation. As a result, it is a breeding ground for religion and other diversions and special interest groups, many competing for the right to weild their individualistic manifestos as the instrument of government.
"Maharashtra harbours a population of above nine million adherants to the Islamic instrument, the Muslim faith, many representatives of which have been amongst the first to criticise The Igovian Soviet Commonwealth following the destruction of the Mecca Masjid, bulldozed this week to make way for a large pantisocratic Phalanstery, a Home Colony for three thousand comrades.
"Concerns tonight focus on calls by one fringe member of the community for an absurd holy war against The Commonwealth, and the possibility of similar reaction by other special interest groups here and around the world.
"From Maharashtra, comrades, a cautiously optimistic be seeing you."

Crazy commies, your failed economic systems will be your downfall. Private ownership is the key to motivation for realistic economic systems. We ask that you excempt anyone from turning in their property who does not want to and send them to Parthia. We will treat them better than you communists who claim Capitalists violate human rights while taking away the right to property.

Igovians have no time for the unthinkably backwards state of capitalists. This is not an assault on capitalism- that system served its purpose years ago.

Portmeirion challenges the accusers to cite an instance of Igovian socio-economics having failed.

OOC: This is in response to what you posted in my factbook.

The changes in the ISCBG, although suprising, will hopefully not harm the relations between our two nations. We accept and acknowlage this change, and obviously, policy will have to be changed. However, we will still consider the ISCBG to be a good partner with the ANL and we hope relations still remain positive in the future.

"Oh, this is not a matter for argument. This is evolution. To argue against it is to call yourself a monkey. Whether you recognise it or not, this is an absolute and is the future of your own nation, no matter how backwards it may be at this point. Your people will arrive at this point, eventually, be you Islamist fundamentalist, neo-consrvative sham-democrat, social-democrat, feudal lord, or otherwise."

Your system is the devolution, your system stifles development and freedom. You end the right to property and the right to live life the way you desire. Communism fails all the time, Capitalism is the only system which works in reality. We will never be Communists, anyone in my nation who wants to be is killed on the spot.

This is Parthian News Network:
Across schools in Parthia a new video is being played in every classroom called "Enemies of Our People", a documentary about the nation of Beth Gellert and why Parthia is superior.

A few clips have been made avalible to the public for viewing, and the video will be avalible soon.

The clips began to roll, first it showed a commune, full of people starving to death and using bronze age farming tools. The narrator began to speak, "The people of Beth Gellert are of an inferior race, they are mentally incompitent and are ruled by a state which steals their food and gives lives of absolute luxury to themselves while keeping the people in grinding poverty. Their race is unknown, but it is far inferior to the Persian race. This inferiority combined with a system which stifles personal advancement and thus, advancement of society has left the people dependent upon the land using bronze age tools. Every day, they excecute thousands who oppose this system, which Marx supports and then sells their bodies for meat. The problems with hunger in Beth Gellert are so great, that they often will raise children to slaughter and eat them, and the government even looks upon this in a positive light, since they banned religion and morality, including Zoroastrianism. These are the ultimate effects of Communiusm...

In the Igovian Soviet Commonwealth there is no increase in Parthian-related media or schooling. A small number of specialist documentary films have been screened over the years on the Iska! network, the most popular of which received over three quarters of a million viewers in its first airing, placing it one rank ahead of the novelty item, World’s Fattest Capitalists, and right behind the news round-up on that day when nothing happened anywhere on earth. The nation is given no mention in the Commonwealth Professional Civil Service’s standard scholarship material recommendations, and young comrades are instead provided the means to read up on such things in their spare time should they so desire. At most major universities, The Parthians are included in the supplementary doctorate in Minor Contemporary Less Developed Societies. A balanced look at the relative proximity to a modern condition of specific primitive states and a general appraisal of what place today’s world has for these societies, the course considers arguments for and against intervention in aid of their development. Like such courses, the documentaries focusing on nations such as the Parthian one are legally barred from telling the sorts of lies sponsored by many of the states that are their subject matter.

"Beth Gellert's Attack on Cultural Monuments Continues"

Was the headline that ran across the citizen's front page. Although Hudecians in general didn't care much for cultural monuments altogether, their demolition was a sticky point in Hudecian culture. After all, in the bourgening economy many a historical monument was bulldozed over to be replaced by a mall, high rise or a factory. Of course they were honoured with plaques placed on the former sites, but it just wasn't the same.

What motivated people more however, was that despite Hudecia's attacks on its own historical monuments, religious targets were never destroyed. Part of what exacerbated these feelings were the continuing cold relations between Hudecia and Beth Gellert.

Recent documentaries on Beth Gellert were critical of the role it played supplying arms to Drapol, and some openly accused it of provoking a crisis. Some were more complimentary, showing the attempts at democracy and the 'tolerance' of religions. (OOC: i'm assuming since there are 9 million Muslims in your country there is some tolerance.)

OOC: Oh, well, actually, hang on, I'll get a map out. There are no Muslims in BG, in fact organised religion is gone, finally outlawed after the Royalists fell. Some communes springing up now are generally tollerant of private reverence to old mythology, and some influences from ancient Gallatian spiritual, Protestant, Muslim, Hindi and various other sub-continental beliefs persist in the culture, but there's no organisation, and anybody who actually maintains an irrational belief is generally re-enroled in the education system, given psychiatric help, or furnished with a good many opiates and alcoholic beverages to calm them down.

Maharashtra is one of the seven or so independent Indian states bordering BG. Across those nations are tens of millions of Muslims, as well as a great many other religious folk. Previously, BG's allowance of 'religious tourism' attracted a good many pilgrims to sites such as St.Thomas' tomb and the Mecca Masjid as well as grand Hindu temples, as religious people were seen more as a quaint curiosity than a threat. Now, of course, surrounding populations, and possibly others further afield, are unhappy about the levelling of some sites, hence the example report from Maharashtra. Sorry if that wasn't too clear, before.
