OOC: I know it's kind of lacking, and a little bit sloppy but it's my first factbook ever so give it a break. I'll be updating it soon with a constitution and more laws, and the backgrounds of the leaders. Thanks to the Island of Rose, and to Mauiwowee for helping me put this together.

Jamaican Background

Jamaica was orginally one of the many Caribbean colonies controlled by the British Empire in 1732. Before British colonists arrived the island of Jamaica contained a small Indian civilization, but it was virtually elminated by enslavement and foriegn disease. African slaves were later brought to the colony in excessive numbers, and soon greatly outnumbered the British colonists. It wasn't long before a rebellion was incited, and the African slaves rose up against their masters, outnumbering them in a 10 to 1 ratio. The slave uprising resulted in a 10 year war which ultimately ended with the Jamaicans crushing the British in the decisive Battle of Kingston. The British withdrew from Jamaica and recognized it's independence as a soveriegn nation in 1765.

The years of self rule that followed were turbulent and full of corruption. Four civil wars occured during a 100 year period between 1800 and 1900, each of them only further weakening Jamaica's fragile infrastructure. The 20th century brought an era of peace, but with it an era of poverty. Jamaica's dynasty of leaders, the Fountains, who served as presidents but acted as though they were emperors, would plague the people of Jamaica for over 95 years. Much of the money that Jamaica took in from exports, and from tourism was greedily taken by the Fountains and distributed to a small network of family friends. This resulted in an extremely large gap between the rich and the poor, with the poor population of Jamaica representing 93% of the entire populace.

It wasn't until 1995 that the dynasty of the Fountain family was finally ended. The summer of 95' sparked some of the most violent riots that Jamaica had ever seen, people were fed up with their predicament and wanted a change. The seeds of revolution were spread through the soils of Jamaica and all that was needed was a strong leader to set things off.

Three of Jamaica's most notorious drug kingpins, Swoonie Woo, Slick C, and Silent Murphy, joined forces and took advantage of the turmoil that was spreading throughout the nation. The kingpins were known for giving back to the community, alot of what they earned went into neighborhood cleaning funds and to childcare facilities. The Jamaican people felt no shame in accepting the kingpins' money, as they never dealt drugs in Jamaica, but rather outsourced with connections in Europe and America. Those who did deal on the streets of Jamaica were often killed by the three kingpins' respective gangs.

On a hot July day, when the Kingston riots were becoming heated and mobs threatened to march into the capital building and kill President Fountain themselves, Swoonie Woo, Slick C and Silent Murphy dramatically split through the steaming crowds and demanded to be let into the capitol building where President Fountain was holed up. The police force folded in fear and complied with the trio's demands, except for one officer, who was violently shot down. Swoonie Woo and Co. burst through the building's heavy wooden doors and led the mobs inside, who preceded to ramsack the entire building in rage. While the mob was occupied, Swoonie Woo walked up the spiral steps leading to the presidential quarters, burst into the president's office, and put a single bullet in his brain, the force of which flung his body out of a nearby window and onto the streets where he was stomped and mutilated.

Swoonie Woo declared himself 'Di Dude' of Jamaica, and Slick C and Silent Murphy were declared 'Di Men'. The people overwhemingly accepted the trio as their leaders and the rest is history.

Current

Nine years after the, for the most, part bloodless coup, living conditions in Jamaica have greatly improved, and the average Jamaican lives comfortably in one of the country's many suburbs with a sufficient, well paying, job. Jamaica has gained many powerful allies since reintroducing itself back on to the international scene, and is a host for several foriegn businesses which create economic growth and more jobs for the inhabitants of the island nation. A solid, stable government has since been established, and the people of Jamaica are for the most part pleased with how their country is ran.

Jamaican Aims:

The Empire of Jamaica

Through a string of peaceful annexations, Jamaica is slowly establishing the foundations for an empire, with Haiti, Nigeria, Alabama(Exluding Mobile), and Georgia, already agreeing, through a honest polling of their people, to join the empire.

The Betterment of Blacks

Through the influence of the empire, Jamaica hopes to better the well being of blacks worldwide. Jamaica considers itself a shining example to the world that a predominately black nation can succeed, and that the black race, despite all of its setbacks, can with hardwork, prevail. Swoonie Woo wants to reach out to all of Jamaica's brothers and sisters in the Caribbean and in Africa, and bring them under the wing of the empire, where a better, safer, and longer life is assured.

Jamaican Government

Di Dude

Di Dude is the main leader of Jamaica, he has the ability to pass or veto suggested laws, and if neccasary override the power of Di Men. Di Dude serves an indefinite term, which ends when either Di Dude dies, or if the populace whom Di Dude governs shows dissatisfaction, in which a request by the people can be made that he step down. If Di Dude refused to step down upon request then a national vote would be held, asking the people if they'd rather that Di Dude stay in power, or he be removed, and an election between canidates from the senate would follow shortly after.

Di Men

Di Men serve as advisors to Di Dude, and monitor Domestic Affairs. Di Men also preside over a number of other national affairs, each of which are headed by small councils that Di Men can override if thought neccasary. The number of Di Men can range between 2-4 people, but to date there have only been two; Silent Murphy and Slick C.

Di People

Di People are a 60 man senate that consist of represenatives of small towns and cities in Jamaica, and from territories that have been annexed. You must be 25 years of age, and have been born in Jamaica to qualify as a member of Di People, as is with any other position of power in the government. Whenever Di Dude makes a decision that will effect the general populace, he must first bring it to the Di People, who will decide if it what Di Dude has brought to them is right for the people or if it is not, in which the latter case it would be vetoed. Di Dude can only override Di People's power in a wartime scenario in which the safety of Jamaica is in jeopardy. Such a scenario has yet to arise.

Counties and Territories

Each county is governed by an elected mayor who serves a four year term and can run for position of mayor indefinetly. Each annexed territory is governed by an appointed governor who has a term of four years. Once his term has ended a native within the territory, or anyone from within the empire living in that territory is free to run for governor as long as they are of age and fit the requirements.

Annexed Territories:

Haiti
Nigeria
Alabama
Chad
Cameroon

Key Allies:

The Island of Rose
Mauiwowee
Vastiva

Domestic Disputes

Arab Uprisings
The growing Arab population in Kingston and other major cities staged a string of failed uprisings against the government as a response to being the targets of violent attacks by Jamaican teens. The action has since calmed down and Arab and native Jamaican leaders are in talks about how to resolve the conflict.
