Closing the borders of Kopparbergs [Earth II]

OOC: Kingdom of Kopparbergs in Earth II consists of three republics in Russia: Kola Peninsula (Murmansk oblast), Republic of Karelia and Leningrad oblast. This RP takes places in Earth II. If you do not recognize this earth, please don’t participate in this RP.

Kopparbergs News Network – KNN

This morning, the Secretary of Defense General Carl Hamilton, declared that the borders of Kopparbergs Karelia will be closed. No passing in our out of the country will be allowed.
The international airports in St. Petersburg and Murmansk will close in about two hours. Planes on their way to these airports will be allowed to land, but the passengers must go through a very hard security control. Planes that have not reached Kopparbergs air space must turn around.

Mr. Hamilton did not tell us what’s going on, but he did say that the threat against our country might be raised very soon. The Defcon level will be raised from five to four (which i.e. means that all leaves are cancelled, and the border patrols will be on highest alert level.).

Some sources tell us that this is happening because the military of Kopparbergs are planning something big, but we have not get that confirmed. The government is not willing to speak about this, they’re only showing us the press release.

As soon as we get some more information we’ll come back to you!

“Sir, look at this!” said Lieutenant Eriksson to General Andersson and handed him a printout of a satellite photo.

“Hmm… Just as we thought… Why are they doing this?” Andersson seemed to be worried.

“Don’t know sir. But we must be prepared.”

“Yepp, you’re damned right about that! Get me the Supreme Commander on the phone right now!”

Andersson rang the Supreme Commander on the secure phone. When the SC answered he handed over the phone to General Andersson:

“Sir, this is General Andersson, we have a situation here. You must take us to Defcon three, maybe even Defcon two!”

“Wait a minute!” answered the Supreme Commander. “Let me take the decisions about the Defcon level! Now, what’s going on?”

“Our satellite has passed over Archangelsk and provided us with fresh satellite photos. They’re mobilizing harder than we thought! We see a large activity in the Dvinsk Gulf.” (OOC: located outside the capital Archangelsk, in the White Sea).

“Not good… Do you see any activities in the Onezhskaya Guba?” (OOC: A bay at the border of Kopparbergs and Archangelsk.)

“Yes, they must be up to something. We have tried to get a explanation of what’s going on, but they only tells us that everything is normal, they’re not doing anything with their military.” says Andersson.

“OK, take us to Defcon three. Send out the 3rd Carrier Battle Group from Kandalaksha towards the Dvinsk Gulf, but do NOT enter Archangelsk’s territorial waters. And send out the 2nd Carrier Battle Group from Ponoy into the White Sea. Prepare the 5th Carrier BG to leave Murmansk, we may need them in the White Sea also.”

“Yes, sir. What shall we do if we get contact with the Archanglian Navy?”

“Hold your fire, we may solve this issue without fighting. But if they fire upon us we must fire back.”

“Okay, I’ll send out the order immediately!”

Thank you, Mr. Veristek, we appreciate your concern about this issue!

At the moment we do not need any help, but if the situation changes into a war, we appreciate all the help we can get.
To be prepared if the situation changes, we give you full access to our Navy base N5 in Murmansk. You can send a fleet (or a Battle Group or something like that) to Murmansk if you want to.

Thank you again!

I have several territories in Earth II, namely Colorado, New Mexico, Nebraska, Northern half of Anarctica, Gambon, Senegal, Guinea, and West Guinea (I think). I'm also in the process of acquiring Texas and Louisana (gotta wait to see what Layatreb says).

Thank you for the prompt response, General Carl Hamilton.

I would like to send a small group comprising of:

2 Nexus Aircraft Carriers
4 Levithian Battleships
12 Sagittarian Cruisers
24 Juggernaut Frigates
4 Goliath Transports

The Goliaths can carry all the supplies necessary, as each Goliath is capable of carrying 300,000 tons of cargo or personnel.

Hopefully this task force will be of aid, and would help bolster your defenses if your enemy chooses to attack. Please keep me updated of whatever happens during this crisis.

I've been thinking of getting an allied. By now I'm not a member of any (military) alliance, and I don't have any permanent allied nations. Since I like your RP in Earth V, and we're both active in Earth V and Earth II, maybe we should make an alliance between our two nations?

I don't like big alliances like Nato and such - they're to big. And I like to play my own politics, therefore I'm not member of any such alliance.

Sounds like a good plan. I could use an ally or two in Earth II and Earth V as well.

I'd like to make a brief RP in this thread about setting up this alliance, to make it official "IC" stuff. :)

The Emperor sat in his office. He was looking over the briefs from the situation in Venezuela and Sevaris. "Just what I need, another disaster to worry about." He picked up the phone to the General of the Space Division. "Sir. Yes. Indeed General. You are aware of the situation in Kopparbergs no? Very well. Get a satellite over the region and see what is going on. If necessary yes a U-3 flight might work. Let us see the details of the satellite first. How long? Six hours? Alright." He hung up the phone and made a note in his book of world events, this one being a new book, now for Kopparbergs. He had tons of them lined up on the many bookshelves in his giant office. Maybe I'll get to sleep on this one.

Secret encoded message to President Rand Veristek, Sharina

From: General Carl Hamilton, Secretary of Defense, Kingdom of Kopparbergs

Thank you for sending a battle group to Murmansk to aid us with our defense! I wish I could tell you that I hope that we don’t need your battle group, but I must be honest with you.

I don’t think that Archangelsk will attack us. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure they’re not going to do that. Have you heard the Russian word Maskirovka? (OOC: Someone who has read Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy?)
I’m telling you this as you are going to be our ally, and we don’t want to begin the alliance with fooling you. So, this is the situation right now:
* Archangelsk has NOT mobilized any kind of army or navy.
* We have made false satellite photos showing that the Archangelskian Navy is coming in our direction. We had to do that because we need to get our own military personnel with us. If they think that we are under attack, they will make their best.
* The whole history is made up by the government of Kopparbergs. We need a reason to attack Archangelsk, as we need their whole production of minerals and oil. There are very much natural resources in Archangelsk, and we need that. And as a side effect of this, we’re going to have full control of the whole White Sea, not a minor reason to fulfill this!

Now when you know what’s going on, you can decide to play along with the government of Kopparbergs, or you can withdraw your battle group from this incident – without any bad thoughts from Kopparbergs.

And please, don’t let this secret information leave your room! It’s of utmost importance that our own military personnel don’t know the truth in the beginning of this upcoming war.

The Emperor picked up the phone as it rang and as a series of photographs began downloading to his secure folder on his computer. "Yes. Ah Minister." It was the Minister of Intelligence. "Indeed. Nothing you say? Excellent." The Emperor saw for himself. The situation was not what it was said to be. Intelligence analysts hinted that it had something to do with Archangelsk but they were not certain. Certainly the mobilization of the Kopparbergsian military had been documented and sighted. But where were they going? Was it Archangelsk? They could not be certain as nobody else in the region had any mobilizations. They would certainly look more closely over the next hours and days. Certainly this information would have to remain secret.

White Sea, outside the outer border of Archangelsk territorial waters

When the Carrier Battle Group from Kandalaksha entered the Dvinsk Gulf everything was calm and seemed to be normal.

“MS Royal Merke to base, we see nothing particular here. No signs on the radar. Request help from an E3-Sentry.” radioed one of the ships from the bay.

“Roger that. Continue towards the Archangelsk coast. Be careful, they’re there somewhere! We’ll send an E3-Sentry to the area. You have permission to fire if you get contact.” answered the base.

“OK, good” answered the radio operator. The commander on the ship thought it was strange that they have permission to fire, but he didn’t think more about that. He concentrated on the radar screen that showed nothing…

“Sir! We have a contact! East-southeast, distance 20 miles. Seems to be a Grisha Frigate, but I’m not sure.”

The fire commander keyed in some distances and degrees into the computer, the figures was immediately transferred to an Arleigh Burke class destroyer outside the Gulf.

“This is the Coast Patrol of Archangelsk. You are on our territorial waters. Please leave, or we will enter your ship!” the message was received by radio.

12 seconds after the message was received, three Tomahawk missiles was fired from the Arleigh Burke. Two of them made a direct hit at the Grisha Frigate, the third missed by a few feet.

The war has begun.

The Military HQ, St. Petersburg

“You did what?!?” screamed Lieutenant Eriksson.
He was very upset when he found out that the satellite photos where fake.

“I had to. The Supreme Commander ordered me to manipulate the photos. If I didn’t do it, he would have taken action against me he said.” answered General Andersson. “But I don’t like what came out of this. What do you think we should do?”

“We cannot let this continue! For gods sake, we have started a war due to your faked satellite photos!!” Eriksson didn’t scream now, but he wasn’t calm either.

“Yeah, I know. We must do something… I think we should leak this to the newspapers and the television.”

“Holy shit… do you know what’s going to happen to us if they find out that WE did tell the press?” Eriksson was not stable at his voice. He seemed to be nervous now.

“Of course I know! But the option is to continue the war. I’ll fax a story and the faked photos to the newspapers and the television news now.” Andersson has made a very important decision now. More important than he thought…

OOC: Don’t make any IC reactions on this yet, I’m going to continue this in a moment.

St. Petersburg, downtown
It started with a small note about the photos in the largest newspaper. Then it became larger and larger. The more they checked, the more they discovered. At the evening, the day after Andersson faxed the story to the news, it was all going on at full speed. Every single newspaper, radio station and TV channel were at the government building where the press conference were to be hold. Hundred of thousands of people were at the big market square outside the government building. They were very upset. The government had made up a Maskirovka (a false story to fool someone) and was planning to invade the neighbor Archangelsk.

The military has stopped all action against Archangelsk. All ships in the White Sea have left the area outside Archangelsk and were turning back to their home bases. The Army around St. Petersburg has mobilized, but not against an enemy. Not against the upset people at the market square. The military is on the people’s side. The governments Maskirovka also fooled them.

The upset people began to enter the government buildning. The military followed them. A lot of tanks were seen at the market square. What was supposed to be a press conference explaining the faked satellite photos, more and more turned into a military aggression against the government of Kopparbergs.

Once the Secretary of Defense (General Carl Hamilton) and the King Carl Gustaf XX entered the scene, the whole thing started…
Everybody begun to throw eggs and tomatoes at them. Nobody was able to hear anything of what they said. Suddenly, someone begun to fire a gun or rifle somewhere. Both the King and the General fell down on the floor. For a moment it was completely quiet. Then all the people begun to scream and praise the death of the liars.

OOC: To be continued…

Inside the Emperor's office the scene was calm. "So what is going on over there?" He asked the Minister of Intelligence.

"Things aren't looking good. It looks like there is going to be a major coup over there, lots of bloodshed."

"Very well. Continue to monitor the situation. If anything happens let me know."

Kopparbergs was a world away but they had a military and that was cause enough to be worried.

The PM's intercom beeped twice, and he began to listen. Two things were shown on the intercom's screen. It was from General Hastings, one of the heads of the Armed Forces, the one responsible for reporting to the PM. And the subject of the message : KOPPARBERGS

"Sir, they went to war on false pretenses, and now theres a revolution. It would appear the General at the head of the armed forces has been killed along with the King."
There was a long pause. A war could be coped with, a revolution, somehow, was a lot worse. It involved civilians and violence. They just didn't mix.
"Right. Well, let's just observe. We don't really have any relations with them."
"Ok sir. Will do."

The Emperor looked at the morning brief concerning the situation in Kopparbergs. "Well what a bloody mess!" He said as he flipped to the last page. Inside his office were both the Minister of Intelligence and the Secretary of State. "Alright here is what we'll do. Once this place is completely stable I want us to send over diplomats. We could use an ally in this region. Second, once and if we get established there, we will implant some intelligence personnel. We really need to get some data on that region of the world. Understood?"

"Yes sir." They both repeated. "Sir, who should we send?"

"How many candidates are there?"

"Sixty sir."

"Very well. Narrow the list down to four and let me meet them. And please none of those wussy candidates either, this is not a friendly region in the sense of bunnies and stuff."

"Yes sir!"

“Andersson! Andersson! Andersson!” The crowd screamed the General’s name. They were proud of him and saw him as a hero that stopped the war.

“Andersson for president! Andersson for president!” Everybody in- and outside the government building screamed that they wanted General Andersson for president.

General Andersson entered the scene. He seemed to be calm despite the situation. “Thank you people! Thank you for your trust! I will do as you want to. Hereby I declare myself as the President of the United Socialist States of Baltic Karelia! Down with the old and corrupt Kingdom of Kopparbergs! This is the new start for Baltic Karelia! No more wars, we will keep our military power just for the defense!”

Everybody screamed and hoorayed.

OOC: Thank you very much for your nice words, Layarteb! As you understand this is not the ending I planned from the beginning. OOC: Yes I'm done with it. Of course I'll continue to RP if it comes comments (IC or OOC), but I haven't planned any continuation of it ATM.

IC: Baltic Karelia thanks for the diplomatic invite. You're welcome to establish an embassy in the capital St. Petersburg. We wish to build an embassy in the capital of Layarteb.

Our new free nation of Baltic Karelia is not that very leftist. I wouldn't say it's communistic.
