War of the Desert Sands: Lightning Starian Invasion of Niger(Earth II)

On the Border of the Soverign Nation of Niger and Lightning Starian Libya

Malak sat on his sand covered-jeep, slowly scanning the desert horizon with his binoculars. A few years ago, no one would give a thought to their neighbor to the north, Libya. Unfortunatly, things had changed. Libya had been taken over by The Lightning Star a little over a year ago, and most African scholars knew about the Lightning Star and its origional African Empire. They had taken over Mozambique and Botswana, a tiny area of land actually. But the war over it was long and bitter. Nuclear weapons flew through the air, entire CITIES burned to the ground, and over 40% of the populace of both countries combined was lost.

The people of Niger didnt want that to happen to THEIR country, so that is why they put sentries on the border, to look for a possible Lightning Starian Invasion. So Malak sat there. And he sat there. And he scanned the horizon. And he sat there. There was nothing, absolutely nothing. Nothing, of course, until the sandstorm appeared on the horizon.

At least, thats what he THOUGHT it was. In reality, however, it was something far worse. The Lightning Starian 5th Armor Division was speeding across the desert, right at his posistion. He slowly picked up his radio and said, "The Sky is Falling, i repeat, the Sky is Falling," which was the code the scouts were ordered to say if they spotted Lightning Starian troops. Malak then took out his RPG from the jeep and hid behind a sand mound. When the Tanks began to go past him, Malak jumped out, aimed his RPG at the back of one tank, and fired. It didnt explode per se, but there was a BIG hole in the back and alot of dead people inside. Noticing that they had been shot at by a sentry/scout, the tanks went into overdrive towards the closest city, Arlit, which was over 600 Miles(around 1000 KM) away.

TLSN Special Report!

"Hello, and welcome to our Special Report. Today we have breaking news that barely ANYONE has!

At 14:00 Local time, our grand army has begun to storm the country of Niger. A government offical says that 'we(as in the Lightning Star) invaded Niger because it was in a desperate need to be brought into the fold. Take Mozambique, for example. Before we annexed it, it was as poor as dirt! When WE ruled however, it gained riches beyond imagination. Of course, after it went into the hands of Generia it all went down hill but...thats not the point!'.

Below we have a map of the Situation:

IC: In the skies above Zinder

The entire city of Zinder was in panic as the hum of troop-carrying planes grew ever louder. Shouts of "Arm the Flak Cannon!" and "FIRE!" were commonly said by the defenders trying bravely, but futilely(sp?), to stop the planes. The dark Midnight sky was full of planes and flak fire, and soon a new element was added, Paratroopers. Thousands of them slowly fell to the ground with their parachutes. A hundred or so were shot down mid-air by ground fire, but most made it to the ground alive. Enemy resistance was fierce for the first 30 minutes, but then it quickly melted away. By 0400, the City of Zinder was in the hands of The Lightning Star. Outside the city, the troops quickly began making a temporary airstrip for re-inforcements to come in from.

200 Miles away from the city of Agadez, at the foot of the mountain of Idoukalene.

The infantry, which had crossed the border 1 hour before the tanks and rode fast AFV's, had reached the mountain of Idoukalene by 1600 the next day. The army was encamped at the foot of the mountain with a defensive perimeter set up. The 10,000 soldiers felt fully secure. They thought that what chance did a poor-backwater african nation have against one of the greatest powers in the region of Greater Nova York? Turns out that they had a fighting one.

That night all seemed peaceful. The moon hung in the air, there was nothing more than a light breeze, and the men slept well. Why, even the rough and tough sergeants on guard duty were quiet. It seemed like any other night. There was just one thing wrong. The guards had slit throats. The Tuaregs, a group of local arab peoples, had launched a surprise attack on the encampment. They had actually managed to murder at least 240 men when someone spotted them. "We're under attack! We're under attack!" he cried as he fired his rifle into the air. Although he was quickly disposed of, the damage was done. The camp was alerted to the presense of the Tuaregs. Sensing that they were in big trouble, the attackers opened fire on the troops who had barely even stood up yet. Hundreds more died before the Defenders figured out what was happening. Once the garrison awoke, however, the end was near. Thousands of bullets poured toward the Tuareg attackers, and within minutes all were slain. It was later discovered that there were 147 attackers, and although they had all been slain, so had 736 Lightning Starians. In the mind of every soldier there was one thought. For the Tuareg, there would be hell to pay.

On the outskirts of Arlit

The tanks had been pounding the city for a little over an hour, and already enemy forces were surrendering in droves. Just like in the other wars, the men thought. Much to their surprise however, as the first group that surrendered came within 50 feet of the tanks they all pulled out RPG-7's or grenades and started throwing explosives at the tanks. The other groups also pulled out weapons and charged full speed at the tanks. Over 20,000 enemy infantry ran full speed towards 2,000 tanks, and explosives flew towards the tank. Seeing how they had expected no where near this much resistance, the tanks were only the lighty armored(but fast) Sahagin Tanks, and quite a few went up in flames. Mortar fire soon began to come out of the city, and the tanks took a heavy beating. The tanks eventually managed to open fire on the attackers with machine guns, but there were too many. 3 hours after the battle began, the 147 remaining tanks were forced to retreat.
