War Games - Makaar vs. Aubain
Admiral Chevenkov looked out over the sea in front of him with a pair of binoculars. He had been ordered to take the 2nd fleet out on war games before continuing on to help the Uruguayans against Brazil. He couldn't really see the point - if he wasn't killing anything, then he didn't really want to be involved.
But those were his orders.
He looked back at the rest of his fleet. He was on board the HMMV Djakar, the flagship of the 2nd fleet, and a heavy cruiser. Behind it were stacked the seven frigates that made up the rest of the fleet, following at a steady speed. They waited for the Aubain to strike.
Unless he could find them first.
Meanwhile, the Makaarian troops had set up their training outpost on the island of Magapa, officially under Makaaran control but uninhabited.
The troops marched through the dense jungle land. Their every footstep made a huge noise, shaking the leaves of trees. There were 3,000 of them assigned to this war game.
As they approached the designated spot for the Aubain troops, they stopped and prepared their rifles. Several began setting up machine gun posts and loading the paintballs into it.
They looked out of the undergrowth, trying to see the enemy base.
For the war games, the Providences of Outo and Aoto began producing needed supplies for soldiers. From the city of Roy, the Aubainian fleet prepared to set out. For the moment, the Aubainian fleet was nothing more than 2 Cruisers, and 3 Frigates. Each ship also had twenty marines, who worked the ship, and could also fight on land if needed.
"Alright, keep an eye out for the Makaarian fleet. Let us win this war game and bring hope to the nationalist cause!" The admiral called out.
----
On the island where the Makaarians were, the Aubainians tried to stay hidden and quiet. Guerrilla tactics would be best, for that is what they would be using for the true war against the Socialists.
There was the cry of "Fire!" followed by a bombardment of cardboard mortar shells as the Aubainian troops loaded their rifles. The sound of machine gun fire echoed throught the forest, before the Makaaran troops charged into the clearing. They each sustained several hits, cut down by the Aubainian paintball machine guns.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the seas, the Makaaran fleet finally spotted the Aubanian fleet. "They're turning to intercept!" cried the young radio officer on the bridge of the Djakar. The Admiral turned to his helm officer. "Bring us about!" he cried. "Load all weapons!"
As the fleets converged in on each other, the crews started puching buttons and such. Before long, the cardboard training shells were exploding with paint over both ships. The Makaaran ships crews were being eliminated from the game at a steady rate. The admiral turned to his flight deck. "Launch the fighters," he gave the order, as his harrier jets roared into action, hovering up above the deck before shooting forwards towards the Aubain ships...
After firing, the Aubainian ground forces retreated back through the dense trees and bushes towards the wilderness. Once reaching an isolated area, the Aubainian forces reloaded, and prepared to set out for a sneak attack once more.
----
On the sea front, Anubian ships felt the blasts of the cardboard mortar shells, as pain splattered all over, eliminating many marines in the process. The ships and marines prepared to retaliate however. The ships began firing cardboard shells from their cannons, while the marines shot with their machine guns, in hopes that they would strike vital spots.
"We must not lose," The admiral called out. "for the High minister!"
The ships began to increase fire, mainly mainly aiming at the Frigates. While the naval forces where engaged in combat, one cruiser slinked out of the fire, and began sailing away, back towards the homeland. After it was a few miles away, the other ships began to follow suit, heading back towards the homeland, yet still firing. It seems they were not giving up..but what was the naval forces intent?
"Admiral, should we follow?" asked the captain of the flagship. The admiral thought for a moment, then nodded. "Full speed intercept!" he cried. The captain repeated his order into the microphone and the ships increased speed to follow the Aubainian ships.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Machine gun fire echoed through the dense forests as Makaaran troops continued firing at the Aubanians. They were being forced back to their base.
At the base, several soldiers had dug out trenches and put sandbags along the perimeter of their base. They waited patiently for the Aubanian troops.
After miles of being chased and shot at, the ships stopped. They were battered and most of the marines eleminated, but ships of the Aubainians sat in the docks of Roy. From inside the city, artillery was rolled out to the docks, and loaded with mortors, then fired, to bombard the opposing navy, while the ships and marines continued to fire. The Aubainians hoped this would eliminate the Makaarian navy, fast and quickly.
----
In the woods, the Aubainian fighting was starting to weaker. The more expert Makaarian sharp shooters eliminated the Aubainian best, while the remains tried to weaken the Makaarian strong hold. One officer tried a daring task. Pulling out a paint-ball gernade, he attempted to hurl it into the Makaarian base.
One of the Makaaran navy ships sustained the maximum simulated damage it could and pulled away, as per the rules of the game. However, the fleet quickly rearranged itself, with the heavy cruiser at the front firing paint rounds every minute.
Back on dry land, the grenade bounced off one of the legs of the comms tower of the Makaaran base, flying to the feet of a group of Makaaran soldiers, where it exploded. The seven Makaarans moved out of the combat field.
From inside the comms tower, twenty one sharpshooters were snipering at key Aubain positions as the Makaaran troops climbed out of their trenches and began the run towards the Aubain lines.
One of the Frigates had finally suffered maximum damage for the game, and veered into the docks to be cleaned, and to be re-fueled for the Socalist conflict to come. The artillery continued to pound away, as did the remaining Frigates and Cruisers who increased fire to keep up to the Makaarian fireing.
----
The Aubainian ground force was having problems. Heavy fighting from snipers and rushing soldiers were ruining the Aubainian numbers on land. However, the continued to reload and fire, while ducking back into the forest to periodically. The main target were the snipers, which whom some Aubainian men attacked. The rest tried to stop the rushing Maraakian soldiers, with heavy rounds of machine guns.
Several of the Makaarian snipers were eliminated. The rest of the line charged forward again and again, each time, taking heavier and heavier losses, until finally they fully retreated to the safety of their base.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Makaarian ships had begun to turn their attention towards the largest ship in the Aubain fleet. They fired several rounds of paint shells towards it under fire from the rest of the Aubain fleet.
One of Cruisers had suffered it's alloted amount of damage as well, as veered back into the docks, for the same treatment as the Frigate. The ships began to rearrange for optimal fire, then began another barrage of shells and paint. The artillary soon ran out of ammo after firing it's last shots, were wheeled back into the town, to retire from the War Games.
----
More and more, the Aubainians lost men in equal intervals with Makaarian men. Shots were fired into the base, along with three gernades from a few of the more risque and vibrant members of the land force.
The sea battle was going well. Continuous hits from the support frigates had taken two Aubain ships out of the battle. The ships moved closer to the harbour, ready to corner the Aubain ships in their own port.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On land, things were not going as well. The repeated charges of the Makaarian soldiers had only weakened their line, and they were slowly being taken out by the Aubain machine gun positions. All of their snipers had been lost as the remaining troops went back to their trenches for cover.
The remaining ships pulled back into their docks, cornered. They had no hope for escape, but continued to fire. If they could atleast sink a few more ships, the battle might just tilt in favor of the Aubainians.
----
The Aubain land forces kept at it. Shot after shot, they attempted to dismantle the land force. Shots were fired into the trenches, while some men waited behind, in case the front row of shooters were taken out. No more gernades were tossed, but gun fire increased majorly.
Another Makaaran frigate pulled out of the battle, but a huge number of shots had been fired, and, because the Aubain ships had pulled into their docks, they did not move, so no more calculations were needed for the shot.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On land, the Makaaran troops were nearing defeat. Every single troop who raised his head over his trench to shoot was immediately cut down himself. Several tried to climb into the comms tower, but were shot before they could make it.
The last Aubainian Cruiser pulled out of the battle, leaving just two Frigates. The Admiral upon one of the picked up a large white flag, and began waving it crazily, to stop the firing.
"Stop! We surrender!" The admiral screamed. The naval battles were over, Makaarian forces had triumphed. Still, the Socialist war would most likely involve little naval fights, unless of course the army could be built up quick enough.
----
On land, the Aubainians continued to shoot. This is all they could do, and it was all that needed to be done. The Aubainians were about to triumph over the Makaarian land forces. They felt proud, but didn't stop shooting. They wanted to make the people proud, and this is what would do it.
The ships stopped firing. As the cannons were powered down, the Admiral looked over the sea towards Aubain. He had won.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Makaarian troops prepared themselves for one final push. They armed themselves, making sure they had enough paint grenades and pellets. Then, finally, they prepared to climb out of the trench, when...
A helicopter hovered above the battlefield. A voice came over the megaphone. "All Makaaran troops are being recalled. Makaar is at war with Novoya Brazil. Makaaran troops are ordered to surrender the war game to Aubain and move into the transports in the port on the island."
As the helicopter moved away, the Makaaran troops waived their white handkerchiefs over the top of the trench, asking to surrender. The shots ended and the white 'flags' went down.
In best Makaaran tradition, the Makaaran troops marched out of the trench and assembled themselves in straight lines in front of the Aubainians. The commander, battered with paint, marched towards the Aubainian commander, who was absolutely spotless, and the Makaaran handed over his sword.
He then turned to his troops and, with a quick hand gesture, they turned and marched into the forest, back to their island.
