You know what the NS world needs? A newspaper. An international one, hence the ^name^. Someone who spends an awful lot of time online can read through all the days rps and write a daily series of articles about the nationstates news. so for example the paper might have a routine Leadership Changes section, with special articles for particularly complex revolutions, and major events in different countries, wars, treaties, and things like that.

I'd do it myself, if I had any talent for this sort of thing whatsoever - but I think it's a great idea and if anyone has the time, talent and effort...

I wouldn't mind doing it.. I spend way to much time as it is here, so i might aswell be doin something usefull -s- (And, i have journalism a bit (as an extra classin high school)
But.. i dont know if i can handle it alone thou.. might need help from someone else. (i think two persons could do it. )

Well, Hiroshiko, you could do it with nieder Ostland, who appears to have the resources - what's a newspaper without several journalists and an editor, anyway?

Maybe you can round up some willing helpers, and make an offsite forum for the newspaper.

Great idea. It takes time and effort to keep up any publication, let alone a mere electronic forum one.

Hmm...yes I think I could. But, its just that I don't have the time. But, I could still help by chipping in some ideas here and there. In fact, I have one right now... If this newspaper would succeed, then I believe we should divide it into three categories, based on Tech-Level. So if someone wants to look at Past-Tech events, then they can access it easily rather than browsing through a myriad of articles.

That's a good idea - sorting it by tech-level. As long as everyone's level is declared, i mean I know mine is somewhat ambiguous.

yea, have like a section for the open RP's, storefronts, hot RP's, etc. Would much love it, would help instead of searching through two or three pages. Get a mod to sanction it, and sticky it..maybe have one done every week or few days

Here's what I had in mind...
A "company" that runs it that would hire staff. These staff members would work together in gathering major stories, and then write it. Have a few editors and 1 chief editor who'd go over these before allowing them to be posted... of course you'd need ppl who are reliable, non-bias, and excellent writers.

I'd suggest doing that uponed to just saying "people need to do this". Anyway, that's what I'd suggest.

I'd be willing to help run this news company, and VNB (ViZion News Broadcast) wouldn't mind being the ViZionarian affiliate of NSN Corp. ;)

Hmm... that gives me an idea... selling advertisement spots.

Maybe have a website, too, for people to post breaking news, headlines, stories, past stories, classifieds, etc... and place various advertisements throughout the site for those who are willing to pay...

Just one thing I would suggest regarding the gathering of stories to right about - you'd have to have some way of ensuring that a load of people don't right about the same story and others are not written about because of a miscommunication.

Perhaps have journalist's positions categorised? Like in RL where you have an international correspondant, war correspondant etc, you could divide journalists by what they would be detailed to search for (Wars, Invasions, Diplomacy etc) in order to make sure as much is covered as possible.

Nominate someone as owner/editor, so they can organise stuff. We've got all the brainstorming that could be useful by now.

I myself will be biased but I can write as a neutral.

You know what would be easier would be to allow people to submit their breaking news to the editor of NSN, via TG or otherwise. That way the guys who run the paper aren't forced to search through pages of threads to find important news stories. Of course you would still have to read the forums, but submissions would serve to at least somewhat consolidate the work load.

And on second thought, I think I do want in on this.

I would help, but I'd end up being too lazy. Btw, I'd like it if you had a correspondant in my nation.

Hmm... this would be interesting, if I had more time here. Of course, I might be able to contribute something. I'll see how this develops.

You may want to have the mods sticky it so everyone sees. Make one long post a day, have people submit articles and ads to one editor, who posts it. That could work.

Yes, everyone is bias to an extent, but we need writers who'll keep the bias out as much as possible. News is news, it's not telling your own opinion. That's the job of the writers in the opinion section...

And. i wouldn't mind being editor (or owner) of the newspaper. like i stated earlier. i spend too much time on here as it is, so. might as well do something usefeul. :)

This is a very good idea, and I'm ready to participate in a way or another. Maybe monitoring the situation in Earth V? Maybe you can have one person responsible for each Earth here in NS?
