SPECIAL Air-Air capabilities
TV camera scope allows the F-14 to ID bogeys at a range of 60 nm without the use of RADAR.
AIM-54 Phoenix missile system: The F-14 is the only plane capable of carrying this long range missile with it's 115 nm range. IDF is working to improve the AIM-54C missile with the AIM-54I Phoenix
New system allows data for targeting the AIM-54 Phoenix with input sent from Aegis surface ships or AWACs planes. This decreases F-14 Radar usage and increases detection range.
New Israeli Defense Industries radar has Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) capabilities. The range is slightly increased over the older RADAR and is harder to detect and jam.
Swing wings allow better ACM (air combat maneuvering)
SPECIAL Air-Ground capabilities
LANTIRN pod allows laser guided AGMs and other bombs to be guided without ground based laser and improves accuracy.
Increased take-off weight, the F-14I has an increased take off weight and additional hardpoints allowing fuel to be sacrificed for more bombs if need be.
FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) allows the finding of tanks
GENERAL SPECIAL CAPABILITIES
Pancake shaped after fuselage allows a greater fuel carrying capability and allows the F-14I to have more range than the F/A-18s, older F-14s, or F-35s.
Swing Wings improve dog-fight capabilites, reduce drag, increase speed, and allow better and more stable carrier capabilities.
Fastest carrier aircraft around, Mach 2.55 speed is mach .15 faster than the F-14B/D. It is the fastest carrier plane around.
