We have despatched a small fleet of naval vessels to the South Pacific in an effort to expand our territories overseas. This is by no means a military assault; we are moving towards unclaimed islands.

Vessels included in the task force are

3 T-AE 26 Kilauea support vessels, conducting the transport and delivery of bombs, bullets, missiles, mines, projectiles, powder, torpedoes, and various other explosive devices and incendiaries, as well as associated food, shelter and ordnance cargo vital to the establishment of a secure colony.

1 CG-47 Ticonderoga guided missile cruisers performing primarily in a Battle Force role. Due to their extensive combat capability, these ships have been designated as Battle Force Capable (BFC) units.

1 CV 63 Aircraft carrier, combined with the aircraft of Carrier Air Wing FIVE, it carries F-14, F/A-18, EA-6B, S-3 A/B, E-2CA aircraft and SH-60 helicopters, which give a multi-dimensional response to air, surface, and subsurface threats.

1 CQ 21 Hospital vessel, conveying medical supplies and a small contingent of colonists to set up the initial bases.

We expect the task force to reach the islands in two weeks, where we will began immediate construction of a colony facility on each of the key islands within the chain. Current projections estimate that the colonies will be fully operative within 6-9 months.

As our vessels have cleared the coast of Aligned Planets and headed out into open water - I can now reveal to you (OOC - the population of AP) the destinations of the task force - designated Gamma AP 325.

Our fleet, speared by Fleet Commodore Mike Rittenhouse, will be first calling at the Marshall Islands, off the North East coast of Solomon Islands. After the installation of a colony there, and the supply of equipment and personnel, we shall then move on to the Phoenix Isles, to the SE. Once again - we shall set up a base, supply and then move on. The final port of call will be the Line Islands - to the East.

Once all three colonies in the three chains are operational, task force Gamma AP 325 will remain in the area long enough to ensure the colonies are secure before heading home. We expect them to be away for 6-9 months, so one of the first priorities at Phoenix Isles is to establish a port for maintenance.

OOC - I will RP as Mike Rittenhouse shortly, but I am not anticipating any problems on the way there apart from the odd storm. This thread is primarily to back up my claim to these islands.

Aboard the Bridge of the flagship of Taskfoce Gamma AP 325, FNV (Federation Naval Vessel) CV 63 Protectorate, Fleet Commodore Mike Rittenhouse was sipping his morning cup of tea. Four days out of port, they had had nothing but clear sailing - the merchant shipping lanes in this region appeared to be deserted with no other ships coming into close radar proximity. Cruising past Cape Verde was proving slightly tricky, as the North Equatorial current was forcing the taskforce to make continual course adjustments.

He had received word from the President 36 hours ago that he was to rendezvous with Gamma AP 182, comprising

2 Type 42 Destroyers, FNV D88 Harrogate and FNV D94 Warwick; equipped with the Sea Dart medium range air defence missile system, which in its primary role is designed to provide area air defence to a group of ships, although it is also effective against surface targets at sea.

2 Albion Class Landing Platform Dock Ships, FNV Mauritania and FNV Lusitania; primary function is to embark, transport, and deploy and recover (by air and sea) troops and their equipment, vehicles and miscellaneous cargo

2 Type 23 Frigates, FNV F312 Knaresborough and FNV F298 Ripon; powerful and versatile with the capability to operate anywhere in the world, the type 23 frigate is the mainstay of the modern surface fleet

Gamma AP 182 was currently on patrol the North Atlantic, and was at the time of last contact heading through open water and had passed Nares Deep 3 hours ago. Rittenhouse would probably have to hold position off the East Coast of Brazil until the other task force arrived.

At that time, as he was the Senior Officer, he would assume command of all vessels and incorporate them into his task force - and they would move off together south and around Cape Horn towards the South Pacific destination.

Urgent Telegram

To: Fleet Commodore Mike Rittenhouse, FNV CV 63 Protectorate

From: Aligned Planets Weather Centre

We are reading a storm build-up 200 miles south of your position. Suggest Fleet immediately holds position until the storm front has passed.

Rittenhouse looked at the telegram in his hand, and at the ominous black cumulonibus on the horizon. "All Stop" he ordered. Slowly, with a grinding whirr...the mighty engines and propellors shuddered to a halt and the Flagship began to lose velocity. As the order was relayed to the rest of the Fleet, the other vessels began to do similar.

Lightening flashed far off, and several seconds later thunder rumbled angrily.

Looking at their position, Gamma AP 325 was holding position just off the coast of the island Fernando de Noronha, just south of the Equator.

At least this would afford the other task force an opportunity to catch up.

OOC - who claims Brazil? Do you mind if my taskforce holds position off your East coast until the storm passes?

No problem, just simply stay away from populated areas of the Brazilian coast. We don't want our citizens to fear forgein invasion and start shooting at you now do we?

Having cleared Cape Horn several days ago, Task Force Gamma AP 325 was sailing on clear seas. Having passed the seemingly deserted Easter Island only hours ago, FNV CV 63 Protectorate had deployed a buoy to monitor the island for signs of life - and also to further extend Aligned Planets oceanographical survey.

The Marshall Islands, the first port of call, was two days away roughly, give or take an hour or so, and Rittenhouse did not anticipate any problems. Having encountered nothing more than the odd survey vessel and trading ship on the voyage, the seas remained eerily quiet.

The taskforce, now merged, was comprised of

FNV Toole, FNV Laving, FNV Locot; T-AE 26 Kilauea class

FNV Vogar CG-47 Ticonderoga class

FNV Protectorate CV 63 Aircraft carrier

FNV Aide CQ 21 Hospital vessel

FNV D88 Harrogate, FNV D94 Warwick, Type-42 Destroyers

FNV Mauritania, FNV Lusitania, Albion Class Landing Platform Dock Ships

FNV F312 Knaresborough, FNV F298 Ripon, Type-23 Frigates

OOC: People kind of have claims on these places you know, including me, I think anyway...might be steaming into all kind of trouble.
