Uranium Deposit Promises To Enrich Tailva

The Issue
Prospecting company Nukes4U has uncovered a large uranium deposit in Tailva's south-west.

The Debate
1. "This is terrific find!" claims Nukes4U CEO Billy-Bob Rubin. "It will provide an enormous stimulus to our economy and create thousands of new jobs. It's win-win! All we need from the government is permission to bulldoze the rainforest that's on top of the deposit."

2. "You've got to be kidding," says Green politician Faith Barry. "This rainforest is thousands of years old! This country needs more environmental protection, not less. And to destroy the environment in order to mine uranium that then goes into nuclear bombs--well, that really sticks in my craw."

3. "There's no need for an either-or decision," says the government's Minister for Mining, Clear-Felling, and the Environment. "We can preserve most of the rainforest and allow mining of a small part. After all, think of all the good that the money from this uranium deposit can bring to Tailva."

The Tailva king chose 1, the forest has been ripped down and they are now begining to mine for the uranium. "Here we come" said the king.

We congratulate your nation on your entry into the nuclear age. Ninurta hopes to soon follow.

OOC: Issues do not affect RP, and you can't RP having this many ridiculous resources... I've had that issue twice, but I don't pretend I actually have nukes.

We shall certainly help you in refining and dealing with the uranium, as well as safely constructing and running nuclear plants. Cheap, clean power benefits everyone. However, we feel we cannot support or condone a nuclear weapons project. We wish to make this clear to the world.
We will send scientists soon to help train your technitians, and advise in the construction of your nuclear facilities. If it is brought to our attention that this is in breach of any treaty, we will have to withdraw the offer, at least until we can contest the issue. With your current debt we cannot expect you to pay the world's ludicrous oil prices to keep your people warm.

I reckon personally it's perfectly feasible for Tailva to have uranium ore deposits he's found. It doesn't mean he's "got the bomb" or anything..

Our friends of the great nation of Slaytanicca,we believe don't go far enough.Yes Tailva is saddled with a great debt but it is because of their great hostilities especially to our friends of Golencia.The Holy Republic doesn't want to see anyone suffer uneedfully but Tailva can not be trusted to have a nuclear program unmonitored by members of our coalition?

While not part of this treaty, we see great merit in your proposed actions. We have no wish to see Tailva become a Third-World nation, and see a safe, informed and open approach to nuclear power essential in its developement. However, we are aware of Tailva's recent actions and fear as much as you the possibility they will develope a nuclear weapon. We will certainly be pleased to conform to your suggestion, and additionally will scrap our proposed plans if the signateurs of the treaty decide to disallow them.

Golencia has recieved Nuclear Weapons, which will be used on Tailva if they acquire such a weapon. The Nukes we recieved are in a thread in the pages further back. Either way they acquire such a weapon for an intent to use on offense, Golencia will be forced to wage a Nuclear war, and now with our new ally we will win.

We beg of you to reconsider your threat. Tailva's aquisition of nuclear weapons would bring terror to us all, but a preemptive nuclear assault would open the nation responsible to retaliation from a huge number of entities, not least Tailva themselves.

We are honoured by your suggestion. We too consider ourselves neutral in this debate. However, please be aware of the following:

1. We have suggested a non-profit initiative in Tailva to
bring it's people nuclear power. This initiative will involve
Slaytaniccan nuclear physicists, and donation of fission
technologies from Slaytanicca to Tailva.
2. We have negotiated the selling of outdated naval units
to Tailva. Such a deal is non-confirmed and is strictly
subject to alteration.
3. We have used nuclear weapons in the past. This has
occured but once, after a nuclear assault on a peaceful
nation, and the units were dismantled before detonation.
There has been no Slaytaniccan wartime nuclear detonation
(if that's not too much of a mouthful.)

In the unlikely event that we are still under consideration, we will of course pledge to cooperate fully with inspections by Golencia and Brendanberia, and work fully with these nations in ensuring Tailva does not begin a program of enriching uranium for the purposes of building nuclear arms.
