Info on the UFT:
The United Federation of Twickel is a massive, devout nation, notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, hard-working, cynical population of 3.524 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, the Environment, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
A weakened police force struggles to maintain law and order, surveillance cameras are banned, military funding has been stripped back, and Pinkerton agents are called in to forcibly break up white collar strikes. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Twickel's national animal is the Horse, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Twickelan Credit.

The United Federation of Twickel is a member of the United States Alliance or U.S.A. for short.

If pretty much the entire group of optimistic military literature and many historic examples aren't enough proof, trust me when I say numbers mean very little when compared to intelligent strategy and tactical genius.

OOC - true, we are not adopting a naturally defensive posture. We want to open friendly negotiations with Twickel, but if we were to be attacked we would have to defend ourselves (as any nation would). We do want a peaceful relationship though.

The problem being that my 'nation' is, in fact, not a nation at all. It's made up of loner, nomadic ship-people, about a million in number, who are the remenants of a five billion year old civilization who's sun just recently went supernova.
