Redon Air Control Station: 10:34
John Frink sat behind his radar screen staring at a blurred image of green and black as fatigue set in after working the night shift and now with only half an hour till then end of his shift he began to nod off. As his eyes began to close while he was drifting into the sweet embrace of sleep he was alerted to the sound of bleeping coming from his terminals speakers accompanied by the appearance of a large red dot on the screen.
Realising what was happening he reached for his phone and dialled the regional air force command office. A shrill voice sergeant answered on the other end of the line.
"General McClain Office. Sergeant Killjoy Speaking."
"Sergeant this is John Frink of the regional Air Control Station. We have picked up an unknown contact at the edge of our Radar range in sector 12."
Redon AFB 10:41
A deep roaring sound blocked out all background noise as the 2 MF-38 Vagabond interceptors took off, after receiving word that an unidentified aircraft was heading for the capitol city. Once they were clear of the runway the 2 sleek aircraft shot off on full afterburners take a little over 2 minuets to catch up to rouge aircraft.
When it appeared on the horizon the 2 pilots were stunned to find an airliner just heading for the city. The fighters drew up along side the plane so that they were visible from the airliners cockpit after having a quick look over the plane. The tail bore the insignia of Intelligent Madness airways and the top of the plane looked like the plane had been struck by lightning. Major Freeman Callsign Chaser in the lead fighter opens up radio contact.
"This is chaser 01 to unknown aircraft please identify yourself or you will be fired upon."

*Watching Post Delta, Fuhrer-Bunker, City of Psychopaths 10:34*
SS Oberschutz Meissner squatted on his hard, uncomfortable chair staring fixely at his computer screen hoping that for once something interesting would happen on his shift. He wasn't sure whether his job was considered spying or not but for some reason he felt uncomfortable with the idea of 'monitoring' his 'allies' airspace.
The minutes of nothingness stretched into hours and gradually Meissner could feel his eyelids getting heavier in the dark, damp atmosphere of the Fuhrer-Bunker. He was just getting in a comfortable position where he hoped to grab a few minutes of shut-eye when he was inevitably spotted by an eagle-eyed Obersturmführer at the other end of the room.
"MEISSNER, WAKE UP. SLEEPING IS A SIGN OF WEAKNESS, WEAKNESS IS PUNISHABLE BY DEATH"
The Obersturmführer pulled out an gun and walked further towards Meissner threateningly, stopping about 5 meters away.
#Thats whats wrong with this country, everything is punishable by death# Meissner thought to himself, looking back at his terminal. He didn't dare think it outloud though, he had seen what had happened to his friends who had gone against the state.
As he was settling back into his old routine of clockwatching and boredom, he was alerted to the top-right corner of his screen by a red light and a blaring klazon. The Obersturmführer that had previously threatened to kill him now advanced on him once more, demanding an explanation.
"Unidentified aircraft over Mental Lands airspace, heading for their capital, sir" Meissner reported "request orders."
The orders were to monitor the situation and to keep the Fuhrer and the capitals airforce commander informed. Meissner went about this task by means of telephone and within minutes the neccessary departments were informed and monitoring closely, ready to come to the assistance of their allies.

<Cuts to reporter John Shields, standing in pouring rain outside main gate>
"Thank you Jaquinta, I am standing here outside the current residency of our great leader, his worshipness Fuhrer Tom to bring you an important update of the situation over the skies of Mental Lands. This morning at around 10:34am, an airliner reportedly belonging to Intelligent Madness was tracked, intercepted, and challenged by Mental Lands aircraft. Now that was 11 minutes ago and as yet there has been no response from the aircraft which is believed to be on a direct route to our allies capital"
"We believe that the Fuhrer's response so far has been to order the monitoring of the situation but with the continued silence there has been pressure from inside his government for the need of action. Literally a few minutes ago the Fuhrer has issued the following statement for public broadcast"
<Waves piece of paper at camera>
"This statement, which I won't read in full, basically calls for the increase in readiness of the nations security , a partial mobilisation of the countries armed forces and defense systems and the lauching of an air-to-air interception unit to assist our brave allies in the situation over their airspace. The rumours are already flying around that war has been declared on Intelligent Madness, but the Fuhrer wants to make it absolutly clear that this is far from the case. That is all I have on the situation so far, but I promise to keep you updated as the news comes in"

*City of Psychopaths AFB*
Hauptmann Jahn Seydlitz eased himself into the worn seat of his MiG-37B interceptor and buckled himself in. Checking his flickering instruments for the fourth time before take-off he looked across at his young wingman, Leutnant Friedrich, still only 18 years old and on his first mission.
Giving him the thumbs up, he yanked forwards the cockpit hood and prepared for takeoff. As was expected everything went smoothly as his aircraft picked up speed and scythed into the clear, autumn sky. With a final glance to check on his teammate he informed the tower of his clear takeoff, reminded his wingmate of the need for radio silence to and from the target and locked in the co-ordinates for Redon, Mental Lands. Screaming across the horizon Hauptman Seydlitz reckoned an ETA of 6 minutes.

It had gone well for quite a good few months now. "This spying thing is easy" thought Luke G. Young. Luke had joined the special forces hoping to become a fighter pilot, but instead his keen eye and good brain for evasion tactics had meant becoming one of the best agents the country had, in this rank anyway.
"Today you will infiltrate Mental lands. To do so without danger you will deprat early in the morning at 3:30 in 2 days time. You will be flying in one of our modified craft, and it has been camouflaged. If you are in a situation where the plane is about to be shot down, bail out by following new regulations."
New regulation were infact one of the best designs engineers had come up with in years. Once the seat had ejected, it had thrusters to enable to fly a certain distance, before coming to the floor safely, using the modified parachute/hot-air ballon. "But I wouldn't need to bail out!" he thought, "Who would suspect that a plane with Intelligent Madness insignia all over it would infact belong to The Utopia of General Things!?" Luke did agree, his country certainly was a Utopia, and over-throwing corrupt dictatorships was just doing what was right. As for Intelligent Madness, they were just some crap country with no economy. "They never helped us, why should we do them any particular favours. Plus, I'm so good we won't even get noticed."
On the morning he set out all was going well. He flew off just inside their border, over Intelligent Madness (who must of had little security and never noticed what went in or out of their airspace) and then into Mental lands. But what Luke, nor any of General Things airforce, knew about the newest technological advance Intelligent Madness were working on. Just as he flying over what must of been a huge research base he entered large grey clouds. To avoid Mental lands powerful radar he knew he had to fly low, and therefore started to drop. All of a sudden a huge bolt of lightning seemed to emanate from one of the towers sticking out the research center. The General Things planes were not technological height, or flying tanks. Such a high voltage damaged the plane instantly. The top mesh protecting the cockpit was visibly damaged and worst of all... Quite a few circuits were fried. "Since when were Intelligent Madness making bloody laser-electronic-frazzle-guns??!?!" desperately wondered Luke. He was in trouble now.
That's when two fighter planes, clearly Mental lands airforce, approched him. The shock to the plane, and the shock to his ner vous system he felt, had made the plane go too high, too visibly; his radio was no longer working.
Or was it? It crackled slightly, and Luke heard "... 01... craft... ident-... fired upon."
What was he going to do now?

"... And we can now go live to Georgia Krasten for the latest."
"Well we've just received an official statement from the government which I will first read out:
While we consider ourself a friendly nation, we do not pry on our neighbours. This is why news of the happenings over Mental lands would not have reached us so quick if it were not for people warning of current news circulating round another neighbour of ours, Psychopatic Warmonger. Let us just say that we do not know where this news emanates from, and that the plane over Mental lands does NOT belong to Intelligent Madness. We know our people trust us, and therefore will not get excited or fearful. Any threat from another country towards ours will be firmly rebuked with talks.
Well that's the announcement, but we've been hearing different stories down here I'm afraid. We've heard rumours about shooting downs, no response from whatever craft is being talked about, and even the possibility of a war.
Knowing our government they may try and let it pass...
In conclusion a lot of confusion out here, and the people of the region all waiting to see what happens next. Back to you in the newsroom."

There was no response from the plane. Freeman tried again on the radio. This could mean 2 things A) the liners radio was down or B) they just weren’t listening. It didn’t matter much now as they were now 2 minuets from the safe shoot down marker. Wait any longer and their would be a chance that a shot down plane would hit a built up area.
"Unidentified aircraft you have 30 seconds to identify yourself or you will be shot down."
Freeman eased up on the throttle letting the MF-38 slip behind the plane then he un saftyed the planes Mauser BK 27 cannon. As he was doing this he received a message over the radio.
"Chaser flight leader this is Redon control we are picking up 2 MIG-37's and the Psychopathic Warmonger Air force just informed us that they were sending support keep an eye on them."
"Roger control. Chaser 2 keep a lookout for our friends."
"2" Freeman’s wingman gave a brief acknowledgement.
He focus his attention back on the rouge plane. if he didn’t hear something in the next 10 seconds he would be force to shot it down.

IC:
Now cruising at a steady 30,000 feet and coming up to his allies territory, the Hauptmann gave the signal to descend to 10,000 feet and cross the Mental Lands border. Receiving the a-ok signal from his wingman the experienced fighter ace gently nudged his control stick forwards until the plane was in a shallow dive downwards towards the ground below.
Having been alerted by a red light on his planes dashboard of the crossing into Mental Lands airspace, Seydlitz chose this moment to break radio silence and contact Redon control tower.
"Redon air tower this is Hauptmann Seydlitz of the Psychopathic Warmonger Luftwaffe commanding Assasin flight, we have crossed into your airspace and are proceeding towards Redon, over"
Jahn wasn't sure whether he had the freedom over his allies airspace to carry out his own governments orders but he repeated the message twice more before setting a course to Redon, capital of Mental Lands, now barely 1 minute away at current speed.
Passing below the cloud cover he checked his instruments and then proceeded to unsafety his aircraft's 30-mm GSh-301 cannon and his 8 AA-24 Archer II air-to-air missiles. Monitoring the skies constantly he gave the orders to Leutnant Friedrich to do the same and to close in on his own plane.
6 minutes had passed since taking off from City of Psychopaths AFB and finally his young wingman, the young Leutnant caught a glimpse of the runaway airliner, indeed in Intelligent Madness livery. He got on the radio to his superior. "I see the target sir, 2 'o' clock low repeat 2 'o' clock low"
The veteran smiled and responded by flipping the catch covering the firing button and flexing his thumb. "Ok Assasin 2, copy that, follow my lead"
Seydlitz, keeping his thumb firmly on the trigger, pointed his aircraft towards the airliner and increased speed very slightly.

Only to be opened by Paddles, Grand Leader of Mental Lands
Dear Neighbour,
You may or may not find it sad that our countries have never dealt much with each other, but in all fairness we have different leading styles and I feel that this mutual agreement to let each country deal with itself is a good one.
That said I do not think that starting a war is a good decision. This region does not need a war, or disaster for all countries in the region may happen. Rumours have already started spreading and neither your country nor mine needs that right now.
I can positively confirm, after much checking, that the plane currently in your airspace does not belong to our airforce. That plane must have been painted with our colours for a reason or another, but not by us. I would also like to point out that by simply looking at the make of plane you will probably be able to notice whether it is issued from our factories or laboratories. All equipment in Intelligent Madness is at the height of technology, and unless it is visibly superior in aerodynamics, safety and the small amount of weapons it may possibly contain, then the plane will not belong to this country anyway.
If taking these two things into account - Our thourough checking and your visible assesement - you decide that plane is not of USRIM, then... My country can not stop you shooting it down, if you understand.
Please keep this message secret, I do not wish to cause controversy in any of the regions great nations.
William Lebreton - USRIM President

OOC: COOL! this means i can shoot it down.
IC: The deadline was now reached. No identification from the unknown aircraft and flying this close to the safe shoot down line meant immediate action to prevent anything happening to the heart of the Motherland. Freeman hesitated. He stilled believed that this was a rouge airliner filled with civilians. His consoles let lose a warning tone signalling that he was passed the deadline. The noise triggered a caused his instinct to take over and his thumb squeezed down on the cannon fire button.
Orange streaks shot out of the Vagabond interceptor and ripped into the hull of enemy plane causing large shards of metal to leap off. It wasn’t until the plane exploded that Freeman’s senses restarted and he lifted his thumb off the button.
"Great Shot Chaser." He headed his wingman call through the radio.
"Chaser flight this is Redon control. We received a communiqué from Intel Madness conforming it was not one of there birds. Whoever that was it was wrongly using their colours. Anyway we have a new assignment for you. Your orders are to escort Assassin flight to Redon AFB for unauthorised entry into our airspace. You know the drill."
It had to be another flight from Psychopathic Warmonger. They were always crossing the boards without asking permission. What usually happened was escort them to the local AFB then question them about why they crossed the border without asking. Then they would all go down the local bar and get wasted.
"Roger control you had better dispatch a SAR team to look for any survivors. Chaser 2 lets go great our guests."
The 2 interceptors fired their burners to catch the MIG-37's. When they got to them they took up escort formation.
"Chaser lead to Assassin lead. Please follow us to Redon AFB. Sometimes I think you violate our boarders just to get a drink."

*Over Redon*
Hauptmann Seydlitz pulled up sharply on his control stick as he saw his prize disintergrate before his disbelieving eyes. His mind was racing as he and his wingman broke formation and scattered to avoid the debris. He regained control of his aircraft once more and swore at the Mental Lands jet which had fired and was now trailing his aircraft trying to catch up.
"Assasin 2, report"
He couldn't see his wingman, but fortunatly the reply came soon enough.
"Copy that Assasin Leader, i'm ok. What now sir???"
Leutnant Friedrich now opened up his throttles and rejoined formation with his superior. He knew what his leader was thinking.
"Come on sir, at least we get some free drinks outta this."
The Hauptmann smiled at the innocence of his young wingman and nodded to the Mental Lands pilots now flanking his flight in escort formation.
"Chaser lead to Assassin lead. Please follow us to Redon AFB. Sometimes I think you violate our boarders just to get a drink."
He admired the workmanship on his counterparts plane and opened up the radio.
"I'm sorry officer, I know I was speeding, just give me a ticket" He knew the drill and joked with his would-be captors, hell, this was hardly the first time it had happened. Slowing his plane down and steering a course for Redon AFB he couldn't help wondering about what Intelligent Madness had on Mental Lands.
*Psychopathic Warmonger/Intelligent Madness border*
Major Zelewski leaned back in his seat and gave the thumbs up to his companion in the second seat behind him. On a medium level recon flight in their MiG-25PW reconnaissence plane he felt at peace with the world and took his plane onto autopilot for the photography run over the borders of his neighbour at about 8,000 feet. Sent by the High Command, he was on orders to find out about rumours of secrets military preparations along their countries borders.
Sitting up in his seat as the last of the photos were taken he was blistfully unaware of the wispy trail of white smoke and the small tail of fire gaining on his aircraft until it was too late. Alerted far too late by the sensors on his ageing bird he and his crewman had about enough time to blink their eyes in disbelief as their plane disintergrated from the force of the explosion caused by the hand launched air-to-air missile.
On the ground below the inhabitants of a village 30 miles inside Intelligent Madness were treated to an unusually out of season fireworks display. Though like the calm before a storm the raining metal debris soon made a strange day into a weird one.
OOC: Seriously cool guys, will this is nothing against you, just a twist in the tail in case wimbush doesn't post. :p P.S. its a hand-launched missile so interpret it how you like to make an interesting story :p

IC: *Fox One to Fox Leader, Fox One to Fox Leader, we are approaching occupied airspace, request permission to descend to five thousand feet*
Mopping the sweat from his brow Nick Bronx a.k.a. Fox Leader flipped on his communicator.
*Roger Fox One, Fox Group begin decent to five thousand feet over*
This was getting hairy, you could taste the intensity in the air, nevermind sense it, but orders were orders, and Nick wasn't about to disobey after 14 long years of loyal service, three medals and a special commendation from the Justice of the Peace himself. One of our agents wasn't going to die for nothing, not while he was around anyway. Nick had volunteered Fox Team for the mission himself in an attempt to end his career in a blaze of glory, besides those folks in Mental Lands had it coming to them.
Idly fingering the bomb bay controls with his left hand, Nick slid his right hand down over to the main controls and eased them slowly downwards, his stomach tensed and he fought to relax it, this mission wasn't going to get any easier in a hurry, so he had to keep focused.
*Descending to ten thousand feet*
Nick flipped on the comms
*Roger that Fox Two, let's give them hell, get in, get out and get home, right lads?*
A general laugh rippled across the radio channels
*Right, Sir*
Rolling down in the tight formation that years of working together had taught them, Fox Team decended down through the final cloud layer to get their first glimpse of the Mental Lands.
*Sir, are you seeing this?*
Seeing it? How could you miss it? Dozens upon dozens of high tech munitions factories spread across the plains beneath them and swept all the way out to the horizon in all directions.
*Yes Fox One, I see it*
*What kind of place is this, Sir?*
*Well it's not home, that's for damn sure*
*But Sir, look at all the...*
*Look Rich, shut your trap and keep focused, we have a job to do, one slip up in a place like this will see us all dead*
*Sir.*
They have to know we're here by now, as high tech as the Utopia is, this country is built for war, there's nothing we have that they can't counteract, no scramblers they can't see through. Suddenly Nick felt extremely vulnerable, naked even, ten thousand feet up in the air. It was at that moment that Nick realised their chances, at best, were slim to none of even getting out alive, let alone completing the mission.
*Steady there, keep in formation*
He risked a glance out of the side of the cockpit, the radar had been right, the formation was out of synch, not in a dozen years had they been out of formation, since basic training even. Now he was worried.
*Things are about to get rough lads*

The airbase complex rumbled with the sound of jet engines and blaring klazons as planes were made ready and pilots scrambled to their aircraft. The shouts of orders being barked out intermingled with the whoops of joy as crewmen prepared for action after months of training.
The country was being put on a war footing as the region appeared to be falling apart and the eager pilots that day of KG 251 were glad to be doing their bit to make sure their nation would survive. As the last great Tu122M-3 bomber was made ready the crews were given the ten minute warning and the bases defences made ready as the country held its breath in response to the telegram sent by the government.
